Ours was "Prospect 5" when I was a kid. And very briefly, I remember having a party line with the neighbor, but pretty soon we got our own private line.
Yup, that was normal. It still is, for me. It's just the way it should be.
Back in the 80s when I was still married to my ex, we only had one vehicle, but we worked fairly close to each other, so the ex would drop me off at my work and then go on to his. Well, when 5:00 rolled around, sometimes he couldn't get off work right away, so I'd wait in the break room for him to show up. One of our drivers (it was a moving company) always, ALWAYS, sat with me while I was waiting. He'd say something silly, like "We haven't had a chance to chat for a while" as his excuse for hanging around, but one of the other drivers told me he was staying to make sure I was safe until my husband got there to pick me up. He was such a sweetheart. (The driver, not the ex husband, LOL!)
