I just watched what was IMHO a very interesting program on PBS this morning, and after seeing all of the Contests here that are promoting the vendors' pages on Facebook, I thought I would post about it here...
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/generation-like/
I am new to this forum, but the one I usually hang out at doesn't even allow their registered vendors to promote anything that has to do with another form of Social Media... feeling that the Contests/Giveaways should be for their members only... and a standard with which I totally agree!!
While my feelings about Contests in which the person with the most "Likes" are nothing more than a 'popularity contest' , I must admit that I won one once... although I didn't enter it with that thought in mind.
You sent a photo via email to enter, and I had no idea that they were going to post them on Facebook, but by the time I noticed it, I already had 49 Likes... LOL!! So rather than complain about it, I decided to go for it, and set about calling in every favor from all of my vaping friends that I could.
There was one person close in the running (who I could swear was a shill.. Ha!) which even gave me more incentive to win.
I did win in the end, and I am almost ashamed to say that it gave me quite a rush, and even a feeling of accomplishment... however small. But the Prize involved was your choice of anything they sold on their site... which I already had staked out... but not being a greedy person, was in about the medium price range...
It was an interesting experience, and one I will never do again!!
But I recommend watching that program for any of you old timers like me, those of you who have kids in that age group, or any of you younger people who are caught up in that game of "Likes" on Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Thanks for letting me share/rant...
