Vaping as a Weight Loss Mechanism?

I will admit the general idea I'm putting forth is biased. I'm a Registered Dietitian, so I'm always dealing with weight issues, and seeking new and innovative ways to curb overeating and promoting satiety.

So that said, vaping seems like a natural fit, especially for those who crave sweets. Instead of sucking down a family size bag of M&Ms, why not puff on a similarly flavored vape? No need for nicotine... just the general pleasure of calorie-free flavor combined with having something in your hand that isn't food.

Of course, it would be illegal for me to actually recommend this to anyone professionally... we RDs gotta stick with what's been scientifically proven, or at least scientifically suggested. But talk about an area for future scientific study!

Unfortunately, my experience has revealed the same pattern over and over again, that pattern being genetics. If a patient of mine is overweight, usually their whole family is/was. And if they're thin, same thing... But maybe a vape a day instead of a bag of chips could be a weight loss aide? Combined with an improved diet and some physical activity, of course.

I see it being OK except for diabetics. My blood sugar raises 20 points or so after vaping.

Yeah, that's the nicotine, not the vape. Stimulants are vasoconstrictors, and will raise your blood pressure, and your blood sugar.

But thanks for the info Artemis! Will definitely read up.

I have actually known a few people that is exactly why they vape. When they get a craving for something they load up a tank or find the one already loaded with it and vape away. They have never used nic and it has worked for some. Me on the other hand it works to a degree but I still like my sweets. I do think it helps keep those cravings more in check as I dont go hog wild like i used to but definitely worth the try.

Guess I should add the sweets it doesnt work for are the ones for me are the ones I havent found any that I like such as chocolate. Most vapes have a off taste and not an actual chocolate taste.

For Me, picking up a favorite juice tends to switch my mind away from food. Not as a deterrent from hunger, just has something else to process. I do know that loosing or gaining weight from quitting Nasty's is Bull Shit. All I craved was Nicotine. I mix my own & stay steady at 18% Nic.

I have a few friends that only vape for weight loss. If they have a craving for something sweet, they snag it up & have a few vapes ;) ... One of my friends has been vaping for 1.5yrs & has lost @ 45lbs

When I was young, if I gained weight exercise cured it & my skin would retract. Now I loose weight & it's like a tarp that covers my bones. Getting old sucks. :(

And now, we see the deliberate targeting of young females.
I support vaping 100%. But we are about to see a battle royale between 2 very powerful industries. Big tobacco and the weight loss industry. Which may actually help us in the long run. But will be detrimental, in the short.

I watched John Wayne, Lee Marvin, & other tough guys smoke. Lee Marvin in person. C. Coop said smoking was bad. We didn't know. Another kind of crop farmers could grow would save their farms, & stop Cigarettes. I could not get from my motorcycle to the beer cooler in a convenience store with out running out of air. I know this, Nicotine don't hurt Me. The other 6999 chemicals in Cigarette's will fuck up your lungs. I'm on the way to re learning to play a Trumpet after 43 years. Vaping saved my ass, that's how it is.

I've lost 20 pounds in 2 1/2 years. I'd love to say vaping is a factor, but can't be sure. Way too many other factors mixed in.

Not trying to get back to my running weight, but according to the scale, I'm only three pounds off. (Cause of weight gain = construction injury + NYC halal carts.)

I quit smoking almost exactly 3 years ago, and have since gained 30 pounds and 4 inches in my waist line. I used E Cigs to quit initially, and once I got down to 0 nicotine, I quit vaping. Fast forward 2 1/2 years and 30 pounds, and I had constant hunger. I dusted off my old mech mod and got some sweet juices, but things didn't really fall in place until I got a regulated sum ohm mod, an RDA and some good quality juices. In the past 6 months I have lost around 15 pounds and have kept it of, and I rarely find myself craving snacks like I did those first 2 1/2 years as a non smokers.

Everyone say hi to the leaner Drewfus, who busted his cherry with that post.

[Pretend there's a welcome graphic/animation/meme here. Too lazy to find one.]

Yes, it is known with nicotine to elevate blood sugar levels. However, the website I posted pimps no nicotine products. The idea is vapiing sweets instead of eating them.

Bit late to post about this, but how well do you think that works? Instead of eating sweets/dessert could you vape something similar and get the same satisfaction?

All depends on the person. Whether you have a sweet tooth, oral fixation, etc, and how they effect you.

Specific example: I don't have a sweet tooth. BUT if there's chocolate in the house, I'll immediately eat all of it. BUT I can't stand chocolate juices. Odd.

You just described me perfectly. I'm scared to keep sweets in the house as I have zero self control when it comes to anything delicious. Maybe getting cookie dough flavoured juice might help cravings

I don't like the chocolate vape juices, either. It is an odd flavor. However, I'm finding most e-juices to be a let down. I have found one in particular that I love. It's called Throwdown. It's made in North Carolina. And the knock off clones juices do not do it any justice.

I vape tobacco e liquids mostly. I don't think sweet vapes would work for me. I'm not into consuming sweets so vaping sweet liquid is not usually in my vaping regime. I do a lot of taste testing (dessert flavors) of liquid I make for family members. They are low carbers. They claim it helps with some cravings.
It's cool to know that it might actually work with cravings :) I decided to do an experiment, went out today and bought a juice that tastes like my favourite candies (gummy cola bottles). Going to keep it around for when i have a huge candy craving and sadly that's often, excited to see what happens.

Vaping might just be a replacement for junk food in one's diet, but nothing is going to beat good exercise and proper nutrition in my opinion. I'm just a bro scientist though.

This is true, but, OTOH: You can't out-exercise a poor diet, either.

Ever since I quit smoking five-and-a-half years ago I've had a problem keeping the fat off--whether I was on my full workout schedule or not. Since I took up vaping: No problem. So I would suggest the OP's original thought: That vaping might be effective for weight control for some people, might have some merit.
