Velocity 22awg Kanthal Vertical Build

I like the 3mm vertical build. I have three Velocities, one with 24awg Stainless 4 wrap parallel @0.25 ohms, one 24awg Kanthal 4 wrap parallel @ 0.25 ohms, and this latest 5 wrap 22 awg @ 0.35 ohms, which ramps up slower but works fine.

So your coil is only being fed juice from one side and you're getting zero direct airflow across the coil. I'm surprised you like it.

Actually the airflow hits the coil from both sides through the horizontal slots. As for the 22 awg Kanthal, I decided to stick with Stainless Steel...but now I hear that SS is not meant for mechs (even though I've been vaping the 24 awg stainless parallel reading 0.25 ohms on my mech with sony vct4 or lg he4 for months without incident.
And...I read that one is not supposed to heat their coil to white hot (that was an accident)...

Both main air currents are going in the side and straight up and out. There is no 'across the coil' air flow. Your using a build suited for center air supply in an atty with side air supply. I'm sure it works, but dual horizontal coils properly positioned are how that atty is supposed to be setup and would certainly offer best performance.

Well, it does work for me. Eventually I'll get serious about dual coils, but so far my dual coil builds have not worked out. Logically, it would seem that the single vertical coil would not vape well, or is it that I've never experienced a great vaping setup?

I recently did a ridiculous vertical build. Since coil 22 ga claptons with 32 ga wrap. 5 mm id. It was..... ok. I had plenty of power but in my setup but it was poor on flavor, but this was on a huge 30 mm rda with a chuff cap

Currently using dual coil parallel coils. These are both wrapped around a 3mm mandrel so ID is 3mm on each. I'm using 28ga Kanthal. Each coil according to the Steam Engine site would read at ~ 0.6 Ohm. I'm not having any issues using both coils on a Velocity v2 clone deck.

Note about doing parallel coils; Be careful to avoid letting the individual strands twist upon one another. Keep them parallel, not twisted. It is not exactly bad to use a twisted coil. If you're wanting parallel though it's bad to have it twist on you. I'm finding I prefer parallel over twisted, ymmv.

Getting quite adequate air flow as the horizontal air slots are rather big, also there are eight different air holes above these slots. Find I use the top holes to better cool vape if needed. Not really needing. Air flow is not seeming an issue.

Silly user issue I have. "Remember to squonk more than you think you need." If I don't squonk enough juice up for the wick into the deck's juice wells, I burn off the top of the wick. It kind of tastes all nasty if I do. This is just something I figure a person learns with squonking experience.

I do not think if I were dripping top down it would be any different. I would still need to recall to juice the wick up either way. No, I do not desire going back to tanks. I enjoy the better flavor and better overall vaping with a squonk, thanks. :)

ETA: Chuff caps are nice. I like the Derlin ones.

If it suits you and does its job, logic can take a leap. :) Granted logic does come in handy at times. Other times we find ourselves needing to not use it.

The 22 awg Kanthal works, but I prefer the 24 awg parallel stainless or Kanthal. The stainless had an extra wrap and I used a larger inner diameter, and that's how it read 0.25.

Now, you got me thinking on trying 24 awg Kanthal. I tried some stainless. Only used it as twisted. Next time I'll try it parallel. Liking the notion of these parallel coils. Tried braiding with three strands by hand. It did not go so well for me. Not quite got the dexterity needed. Did have once but life enjoys hiding things like that.

Reckon, using a drill, or rotating device I ought to fare better. Need to look into setting that up. Got a few drills around. I just need to access one of the sheds and stay in it with the drill at the time. Might look into one of those wire crafting gizmos that Super X suggests. Awe, bet my Pap is nodding and saying I'll be back to tying flies. Have to keep that mind when I meet up with him. :)

SS not meant for mechs, meh.. Pretty much all I run, I put that comment in the same category as never run Tanks on a mech.

Guess I've gotten too lazy to try new builds, or maybe I'm just satisfied with the 24awg Kanthal or 24awg Stainless parallel (the stainless needs a larger inner diameter and an extra wrap to read 0.25 which is what I feel safe with). The reason I ended up with a vertical on the Velocity is because a horizontal build would create a twist at the ends of the wires.

If you like the build and how it vapes then it is fantastic; if you don't like it, then it is shit. End of story :)
