Actually the airflow hits the coil from both sides through the horizontal slots. As for the 22 awg Kanthal, I decided to stick with Stainless Steel...but now I hear that SS is not meant for mechs (even though I've been vaping the 24 awg stainless parallel reading 0.25 ohms on my mech with sony vct4 or lg he4 for months without incident. So your coil is only being fed juice from one side and you're getting zero direct airflow across the coil. I'm surprised you like it.
Well, it does work for me. Eventually I'll get serious about dual coils, but so far my dual coil builds have not worked out. Logically, it would seem that the single vertical coil would not vape well, or is it that I've never experienced a great vaping setup? Both main air currents are going in the side and straight up and out. There is no 'across the coil' air flow. Your using a build suited for center air supply in an atty with side air supply. I'm sure it works, but dual horizontal coils properly positioned are how that atty is supposed to be setup and would certainly offer best performance.

The 22 awg Kanthal works, but I prefer the 24 awg parallel stainless or Kanthal. The stainless had an extra wrap and I used a larger inner diameter, and that's how it read 0.25.
SS not meant for mechs, meh.. Pretty much all I run, I put that comment in the same category as never run Tanks on a mech.Actually the airflow hits the coil from both sides through the horizontal slots. And...I read that one is not supposed to heat their coil to white hot (that was an accident)...
Guess I've gotten too lazy to try new builds, or maybe I'm just satisfied with the 24awg Kanthal or 24awg Stainless parallel (the stainless needs a larger inner diameter and an extra wrap to read 0.25 which is what I feel safe with). The reason I ended up with a vertical on the Velocity is because a horizontal build would create a twist at the ends of the wires. Now, you got me thinking on trying 24 awg Kanthal. I tried some stainless. Only used it as twisted. Next time I'll try it parallel. Liking the notion of these parallel coils. Tried braiding with three strands by hand. It did not go so well for me. Not quite got the dexterity needed. Did have once but life enjoys hiding things like that.
Reckon, using a drill, or rotating device I ought to fare better. Need to look into setting that up. Got a few drills around. I just need to access one of the sheds and stay in it with the drill at the time. Might look into one of those wire crafting gizmos that Super X suggests. Awe, bet my Pap is nodding and saying I'll be back to tying flies. Have to keep that mind when I meet up with him.![]()

If you like the build and how it vapes then it is fantastic; if you don't like it, then it is shit. End of story![]()
