It's amazing how good a hunter Tuxie is, considering what a complete scaredy-cat she is. Strange people, she hides from... strange critters... she hunts down and kills! I try to keep a careful eye on her even when she's outdoors, due to all the owls around here, and we've seen a coyote too, which totally weirds me out; I had no idea there were coyotes this far east. :eek: :facepalm:

Owls, coyotes and bobcats are a worry here in Virginia as well. I've seen all of them on my trailcams, and Dupree is known to prowl around the same trails. Areas that used to have wolves now have all coyotes or coyote-wolf hybrids. The barred owls are out mostly at night, but I've seen them during the day as well.

We have barred owls, and also fucking monstrous Great Horned Owls! Those things are HUGE! I looked 'em up, both types, and although both are primarily nocturnal, they often come out early, before dusk, so we try to get Tuxie in just as soon as my husband gets home from work. Which was easy when we had the old truck; the hubcaps made a distinctive rattle; the new truck seems nearly silent, so I hope the cat will be able to hear it coming down the street. She doesn't wanna miss her treat time. :D I don't think bobcats are a worry, this close to the city, but way up in the N. GA mtns, I'm sure they are! Hmm, come to think of it... there was just a monster of a forest fire (+80k acres) in the Chattahoochee Nat'l Forest, which might have driven a lot of wildlife out, maybe even bobcats. Yikes.

He isn't mine, and I wouldn't want him living with me either, but "Grumpy Cat" is famous; he has his own website and there is even an icon of him in this forum's emoticons.

I know... but the shape of his mouth just makes him look so unhappy. I'd hate that! My cat isn't one with the mouth-shape like a smile, but it's kinda neutral. We can tell if she's happy by the loud hum of her purr. :D That's the "Tuxie motor".

We have one cat that does not Meow (she carries on complete conversations and the chirps she makes sound almost like words sometime, which makes us do a double-take) and her purr is so not-cat ... it sounds like a dove cooing. Twinkie is also the one who follows me around like a puppy.

Tuxie has a number of different sounds -- I love the chirp, I call her my "chirpin' kitty". Then she has this very low almost-sort-of-a growl, which signifies she's seen or become aware of something that disturbs her -- someone walking thru the backyard (she HATES strangers), or she did it once when she saw a coyote in the neighbor's yard -- we thought at first it was just a dog pup, but she made it very clear that she was terrified of it -- after the low growl, she slunk on her belly to the cat cave, and wouldn't come out for an hour. :giggle: Then of course she has the standard yowl when she's tangling with another cat -- she knows it brings me out ASAP so she can run in. :giggle: Her normal meowing is almost a squeak, very short and high-pitched. And when we gave her flea baths, she sounded like an air raid siren. :giggle:

Both of my cats and several of the five I take care of do the chortling/cooing thing. Dupree does it constantly, even when he jumps down off of something. I call him Coo-Master. Jasmine doesn't speak so much, but when she does, its a raspy, scolding sound like "look, don't touch".

Her name is Tardar Sauce. lol And I would totally love her. :inlove:My Fireball looks mad most of the time but she is the happiest and most lovable cat.
