If I can do it anyone can. Once I took the plunge into rebuildable atomizers there was no looking back. Most of us were intimidated at first, but you'll soon be asking what you were afraid of. I don't build coils. I can do simple round wire, parallels, twisted, and even some fused claptons, but I have trouble with anything over 2 cores and when there's so many talented coil making VU members willing to take my money along with places like AVS and others there's no reason to go through that headache.Like has been said, single coil atomizers are breeze. Many even come with a tool that helps you cut the legs to the right length. Just jump in with us. The water's great.

Today's vape related activities, checking the tracking on vapemail. Was supposed to be here tomorrow, then updated to monday, now looks like tomorrow again. Most of it spent trying to correct myth's and media falsehoods. Started out with a friend of mine from gradeschool, she had said she'd like to get her hubby vaping and off smokes. So today she posts the recent media shitstorm about someone dying from vaping and this was her comment - 'so from safer alternative to smoking, to popcorn lung, to death. wow!' So irritating. I don't blame her, I blame the media. So I posted a rather lengthy reply disputing the popcorn lung b.s., explaining that they're conflating drug use and sketchy carts with nicotine vaping. And how no, this isn't the first time stuff like this has happened, that similar issues were happening with cbd products found to contain other chemicals last year.

Then I watched the fox and friends show this morning where they had guest Dr Pirzada on. The doctor who treated the teen whose lungs nearly collapsed in NY. She goes on a rant all around the mulberry bush about vaping and omg the flavors and omg the popcorn lung. So I wrote up an even lengthier post and hit several of fox's 'vaping stories' with some factual material and citations, emailed fox and friends with the same and mentioned that as a 40yo ex smoker of 20yrs, I was happy to be breathing again. How vaping got me off the cigs and the fruit flavors were my preference. Asked them to please do some research before hurting an industry that's offering a safer alternative.

I also pointed them to an article done by RollingStone where they spoke with Dr Pirzada. I said funny, she's tying all these incidents to vaping. Memory lapse? She didn't seem to have much trouble last year in the midst of it all calling it what it was.

"But it is Pirzada’s belief that many of these cases are linked to counterfeit THC products specifically, and not e-cigarettes themselves. “E-cigarettes cause their own problems. But this is a totally new issue,” she says." - RollingStone, Aug 28th 2019. Just a week or so ago. So she knows damn well they're not linked, she knows what the issue is. Why drag nicotine vaping into it?

I dunno, @debinnv -- I think that was actually pretty sly of him -- get her hooked on the greatness of RDAs, so now she has MOTIVATION to build it herself, once the current coil goes.

And as I think @nadalama said -- it really isn't hard. If you can wrap a piece of wire around a screwdriver, you can do it. Though I wrap mine around drill bits, so I know what their inner diameter is -- crucial info when you're aiming for a certain resistance. And here's a tip for free: no matter what kind of coils you ever use, always wrap around the same whatever -- screwdriver, drill bit, or a real coil builder thingie. Because it's WICKING that's the REAL challenge, but if the inside is always the same size, then once you learn to wick that, it's like swimming or riding a bike -- you don't forget.

Thanks, Andria. I was surprised at how smooth his coil was. If I had to build right away in order to use the squonk he’d sent, I probably would have waited a long time to do it. I watched a vid that Snap posted and I was shocked how easy it looked. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it made me realize that I can actually do it!

Individuals I get they often only read headlines or aren't that interested to look further. Especially if they're non vapers. The news is what pisses me off. Maybe the on air hosts aren't actually doing the research, farming it out to pee-ons. Whatever the case, it's the news. SOMEone needs to research this shit, just a little bit. Over and over with a variety of topics I see the news spewing myths or bad information. Not even sure they intentionally do it, more likely laziness. But if they're not going to give a story 10min of basic googling they really need to shut their holes. It's to the point I hardly ever listen to the news anymore, they're just full of shit. Their whole reason for existence is to bring information to the people and they're failing miserably.

Well, the fancier coils probably are fairly challenging to make. The only "fancy-ish" I ever tried was a simple 2-strand wrap, and it was a big enough pain in the ass for a lot of reasons, that I decided I'd just stick with plain single-strand, single coils. Mainly, my biggest problem has always been the dreaded "gunk" -- both because I use such a high level of flavoring, and because shisha strawberry is just really bad for gunk, since it's organically-derived -- Inawera even tells you that the flavoring contains solids, though you can't see them with the naked eye. Those microscopic solids end up blackened on the coil and then backwashing into the liquid -- which is exactly why I had to stop using tanks and use only RDAs, so much wasting of juice. The fancier coils have a lot of "nooks and crannies", and I think that may be why people like them, for better flavor -- but those nooks and crannies are a nightmare if your eliquid causes bad gunk problems -- you can't dry-burn them very effectively to clean off the gunk. And that's really the biggest reason, aside from simplicity and sheer laziness, that I've always just used single-strand plain coils, and never compress the wraps together -- they're easier to clean.

Well it's good that I only use one kind of atomizer, because everytime I've tried to use a size different from the 3/32 drillbit, I had to learn to wick all over again -- and that really is the hardest part.

With my Achilles, I get SPECTACULAR flavor, so I have no need to ever use anything different. I do try out new RDAs from time to time if they look promising for a super-tight-draw vaper... but none has ever even come close to the Achilles for either tight-draw OR flavor.

I vaped for about 5 years before I finally ventured into rebuildables. I started on cheap gas station cigalikes then moved into cheap pen style ego batteries and leaky tanks. Then discovered sub ohm tanks like the super tank and the kanger sub ohm kits. Used those forever. Then one day a few years ago I decided to just jump in. Bought a 200w box mod, some fresh batteries and a dam Pharoah dripper tank by Rip tripper. That thing was a piece of something special, but it helped me learn the basics of building. And I watched a few videos and did a LOT of lurking on this forum. I still learn new things every day on this forum. Lots of good people and good knowledge here.

No more store bought sub ohm coils that taste funny and don't last but a day or two. Now I can actually taste what I'm vaping.

It's quite simple and easy to clean a single-wire kanthal coil -- pull the wick and dry-burn, then re-wick. Usually this can be done about 3-4 times to a coil before it's time to replace it.

Dry-burning terrified me at first, but it's really no big deal. You just pull the wick, set the mod pretty low (I usually drop to about 9w for dry-burning), and press the fire button till it glows orange for 3-4 seconds; release, rinse, and repeat it about 3-4 times. You can then re-wick and get back to vaping nirvana. A cool trick I learned from @UncleRJ is that with either a fresh coil, or after dry-burning, pulse the coil till it's ALMOST orange, then drip a few drops of juice on it, before wicking/re-wicking -- it really speeds up the break-in!

Just seemed to me like that little bit of difference in resistance on mechs makes a big difference in the vape. Not much hotter, but ramps up quicker and still gives really good flavor.

Swapped out the regular glass with the shorty on the VCMT. Much better flavor even though it was good before.

And I went rummaging through the vape box. Brought out the bravo and played around with it. I do believe I’ve found the right coil placement for it finally. Airflow is smoothed out and flavor is pretty good.

Also I realized that the bravo and the captain rta are the only two gun metal finish tanks/rdas that I own. Gonna have to remedy that soon.

FT sampan arrived, leaving a pair of Juggerknot mini's.. So, I washed one up , let it dry, and tried 28awg SS316L - meh.

About an hour later I switched to 22awg SS316L and set the SXmini M-class for temp-control. Time will tell, but the lower ohms might help.

Note: reviewers are right - makes little sense, but you can NOT fill the damned bubbglass tank: it refuses the last ML or 2... You can see a huge-ass airbubble, but at that point all further ejuice pees out the fill-port.

So far, I think I can say it won't replace my OBS Nano's, but it's sure nice to have something more disposable to take out & about.

It's quite simple and easy to clean a single-wire kanthal coil -- pull the wick and dry-burn, then re-wick. Usually this can be done about 3-4 times to a coil before it's time to replace it.

Dry-burning terrified me at first, but it's really no big deal. You just pull the wick, set the mod pretty low (I usually drop to about 9w for dry-burning), and press the fire button till it glows orange for 3-4 seconds; release, rinse, and repeat it about 3-4 times. You can then re-wick and get back to vaping nirvana. A cool trick I learned from @UncleRJ is that with either a fresh coil, or after dry-burning, pulse the coil till it's ALMOST orange, then drip a few drops of juice on it, before wicking/re-wicking -- it really speeds up the break-in!

I have some single coils with the Recurve and I see how you can make them. Wow, I’m getting into this so much faster than I thought!
Well, eventually the coil I have in will need to be de-gunked or swapped! Someone should make a coil cleaner!
That Shisha Strawberry sounds good. I’ve been looking at some flavor sample packs since it would be easier for me that way.

Round wire coils are really easy. There's nothing wrong with them, and if anything else they're a great fallback to rely on in a pinch. I started with roundwire, went to twisted, then fused claptons. I've managed aliens, tried mohawks. Those get to be a serious pain in the ass. Taking really thin coiled up wire and stretching it out just right, not too much, not too little.. then praying that wavy shit lays nice the way it's supposed to when spinning the drill. One little thing gets out of wack and it's like someone wrapped a slinky up on an axle, just balls up into a huge mess.

The fused claptons are somewhat a pain mostly keeping the cores flat and not bunching up but aren't super difficult and the flavor is really nice. They wouldn't work as well in Andria's set up because she uses a smaller rda with small post screws. Size of the rda has a lot to do with it. Big clamps or post holes, big airflow and plenty of room is more suited to bigger coils, smaller rda's with smaller decks and tighter draw, thinner smaller coils are better. They respond faster, use less wattage and they cool off quick. Even if a bigger complex coil fit her rda, once it heated up it wouldn't get the airflow to cool it off and would just burn the wicks and juice. That's no good.

Nothing says a fancy coil is better, taste is subjective. There's others on the forums here who use mech mods and rda's and prefer single roundwire coil builds to the more complex stuff. It's all about whatever's right for the individual. Delicate coils are easier just to replace. More complex coils like tricore fused claptons are stiffer, hold up better to things like washing with a toothbrush. I get 3-4mo out of mine. Finer round wire coils a toothbrush would just tear them up. So long as the deck didn't lose any paint or plating, you could pull the wicks and try an ultrasonic cleaner to clean coils.

Another thing that makes roundwire coils easy in my opinion, a coiling jig like the coilmaster v4. There's similar ones out there, kuro coiler or something, geekvape makes some I think. Looks like a barrel about the size of a sharpie in thickness, has varying sized spindles you can use to wrap the wire onto. There's another half that slides over the jig rod and has a little screw head protruding. You hold the end of the wire in a slot on the one handle, just gently twist (without pushing the handles together) and it's like the coils just wrap themselves. Too many wraps? Hold the coil on the jig, grab one end of the wire with pliers or something and gently pull, let it unravel and pull a wrap out. Want spaced coils? Leave the coiled wire on the jig, hook your thumbnails in the outer most wraps and pull it apart. Looks all deformed, the outer wraps are spaced wider than the center. Take the smaller handle piece and push it back on the jig, the coil now kind of bounces like a spring. Push them all the way together and pull the handle off. The wire never completely goes back to a contact coil, perfect spaced coil.
