Someone said he who knows he knows, knows nothing, yeah
He who knows he knows nothing, really knows
But I have searched and I never could find
A way to make my true self unwind
And while I sit here waiting to die
I can see where I am and can tell you why

The time's right ahead, can't you see
'Cause my life's running out, out on me
I've forgotten how it was, let me be
So hangman hang my shell on a tree

It's all so easy, like the time when I first learned, yeah
It's all the same, since the day the world first turned, yeah
But I never tried to listen or wait
And now it's so clear but for me it's too late
And so I sit here trying not to cry
I only wanted peace but now I must die

The time's right ahead, can't you see
'Cause my life's running out, out on me
I've forgotten how it was, let me be
So hangman hang my shell on a tree

The time's right ahead, can't you see
'Cause my life's running out, out on me
I've forgotten how it was, let me be
So hangman hang my shell on a tree

The time's right ahead, can't you see
'Cause my life's running out, out on me
I've forgotten how it was, let me be
So hangman hang my shell on a tree

The time's right ahead, can't you see
'Cause my life's running out, out on me

Ever heard of these guys?

Stop...

been wrong so many times before
was always laying down the law
and all attractions ware a bore
they led me back to you

Uniforms were an allergy
they never felt quite right to me
they conjured wartime Germany
ang God knows we need that

Temptation boundaries does vener know
the time when my morale was low
the circumstances always show
the place was yours or mine

Carrying no cross before me
with no prze no to idolize no story
to hell of adolescent glory

Just void... empty spaces nothing to show
no point of reference to place to go
but one thing I'd ignored and so
the light came shining through

INSTRUMENTAL

I've been wrong so many times before
was always laying down the law
one thing you cannot ignore
bad boys can come clean

Emotions I could not control
Illuminate my heart and soul
I saw a light, I scored a goal
and what price peace of mind?

Sshhhhh.......
Instead of hammering and headbanging stuff(which me likey), how about a little finesse? Huh?
Triple your money back if you can make it through the song.
A little finesse can go a long way.....

Close to the Edge

By Yes
A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace,
And rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace,
And achieve it all with music that came quickly from afar,
Then taste the fruit of man recorded losing all against the hour
And assessing points to nowhere, leading every single one
A dewdrop can exalt us like the music of the sun,
And take away the plain in which we move,
And choose the course you're running

Down at the edge, round by the corner,
Not right away, not right away
Close to the edge, down by a river,
Not right away, not right away

Crossed the line around the changes of the summer,
Reaching out to call the color of the sky
Passed around a moment clothed in mornings faster than we see
Getting over all the time I had to worry,
Leaving all the changes far from far behind
We relieve the tension only to find out the master's name

Down at the end, round by the corner
Close to the edge, just by a river
Seasons will pass you by
I get up, I get down
Now that it's all over and done,
Now that you find, now that you're whole

My eyes convinced, eclipsed with the younger moon attained with love
It changed as almost strained amidst clear manna from above
I crucified my hate and held the word within my hand
There's you, the time, the logic, or the reasons we don't understand

Sad courage claimed the victims standing still for all to see,
As armored movers took approached to overlook the sea
There since the cord, the license, or the reasons we understood will be

Down at the edge, close by a river
Close to the edge, round by the corner
Close to the end, down by the corner
Down at the edge, round by the river

Sudden call shouldn't take away the startled memory
All in all, the journey takes you all the way
As apart from any reality that you've ever seen and known
Guessing problems only to deceive the mention,
Passing paths that climb halfway into the void
As we cross from side to side, we hear the total mass retain

Down at the edge, round by the corner
Close to the end, down by a river
Seasons will pass you by
I get up, I get down

In her white lace, you could clearly see the lady sadly looking
Saying that she'd take the blame
For the crucifixion of her own domain

I get up,
I get down,
I get up,
I get down

Two million people barely satisfy
Two hundred women watch one woman cry, too late
The eyes of honesty can achieve
How many millions do we deceive each day?
I get up, I get down
I get up, I get down

In charge of who is there in charge of me
Do I look on blindly and say I see the way?
The truth is written all along the page
How old will I be before I come of age for you?
I get up, I get down
I get up, I get down
I get up, I get down

The time between the notes relates the color to the scenes
A constant vogue of triumphs dislocate man, it seems
And space between the focus shape ascend knowledge of love
As song and chance develop time, lost social temperance rules above
Ah, ah

Then according to the man who showed his outstretched arm to space,
He turned around and pointed, revealing all the human race
I shook my head and smiled a whisper, knowing all about the place
On the hill we viewed the silence of the valley,
Called to witness cycles only of the past
And we reach all this with movements in between the said remark

Close to the edge, down by the river
Down at the end, round by the corner
Seasons will pass you by,
Now that it's all over and done,
Called to the seed, right to the sun
Now that you find, now that you're whole
Seasons will pass you by,
I get up, I get down
I get up, I get down
I get up, I get down
I get up

More Zappa?
YEP.

Frank zappa (guitar)
Captain beefheart (harmonica, vocals)
Napoleon murphy brock (saxophone)
Bruce fowler (trombone)
Denny walley (slide guitar)
George duke (keyboards)
Tom fowler (bass)
Terry bozzio (drums)

Flies all green and buzzin'
In this dungeon of despair
Prisoners grumble and piss their clothes
And scratch their matted hair
A tiny light from a window-hole
A hundred yards away
Is all they ever get to know
About the regular light in the day

And it stinks so bad the stones been chokin'
Weepin' greenish drops
In the room where the giant fire puffer works
And the torture never stops
The torture never stops

Slime and rot and rats and snot and
Vomit on the floor
Fifty ug-a-ly soldiers there
Holdin' spears by the iron door
Knives and spikes and guns and the likes
Of every tool of pain
And a sinister midget with a bucket and a mop
Where the blood goes down the drain

And it stinks so bad, the stones been chokin'
Weepin' greenish drops
In the room where
The giant fire puffer works
And the torture never stops
The torture never stops,
The torture
The torture
The torture never stops

Flies all green and buzzin'
In this dungeon of despair
An evil prince eats a steamin' pig
In a chamber right near there

He eats the snouts and the trotters first
The loins and the groins are soon dispersed
His carvin' style is well rehearsed
He stands and shouts
All men be cursed (4x)
And disagree, hell no one durst
He's the best of cause of all the worst
Some wrong been done
He done it first

And he stinks so bad his bones been chokin'
Weepin' greenish drops
In the light of the iron sausage
Where the torture never stops
The torture never stops
The torture
The torture
The torture never stops

Flies all green and buzzin'
In the dungeon of despair
Who are all those people
That he's locked away down there
Are they crazy
Are they sainted
Are they zeros someone painted
That had never been explained
Since at first it was created
But a dungeon like a sin
Requires not much lockin' in
Of everything thats ever been
Look at her
Look at him
Thats whats the deal we're dealin in
Thats whats the deal we're dealin in
Thats whats the deal we're dealin in

I think that this is a keyboardist. This is a keyboardist with some nice gear. This is a keyboardist that does not know what the fuck he is doing.
The noises are nice, clean, and perty..
The is no substance. No meat.

No meat. Hypno says move on to the next one.
Haha, funny you should say those things. I've been feeling similarly about it since then. I still think it sounds nice and will gladly sit through a track or two, but I agree, it's objectively very rudimentary. Some people would call it "minimalist" which I don't disagree with, though it's more "basic" than anything else. You'd think someone with the capacity to do more with those sounds naturally would... ...makes ya wonder.

Pretty much anybody with a basic sense of how music works and two good ears could sit in a room with some nice equipment and make something like it if given enough time to work it out.

I don't think that music necessarily needs to have substance to be enjoyable, though. Really depends on what yer up for. There is art and then there is entertainment. And there is stuff that has both components. There's junk food and then there's fine cuisine. It would be stupid to say that any candy bar could ever be better than a fillet mignon. They're not even comparable. Junk food is unsatisfying as a meal, but sometimes you just wanna have a snack. You know it's bad for you, but it tastes good and comes in a pretty package. Not too many people waste fillet mignon on snack time... ...they save it for dinner.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's wise to get obsessed with junk food, either. You ain't really living if that's all you eat.

Dude, Do what you can with what what you got.

Haha, that's just life in general ain't it? It's pretty much the only option :p

I hear you though. It's so simple, but definitely something I tend to forget. Leave it to Hypno to keep it real as fuck. I know that there are many things we don't agree on, but I always appreciate the perspective you bring to the table. Always makes think... ...or more, it makes me remember to stop doing that so much from time to time.

Sometimes you just gotta shut up and play... ...just kinda say "fuck it" and see what happens.

I'm pretty sure that's what these guys were doing when they made a two-part album like this.

Yeah, sometimes you gotta take a breath and figure out just what direction the band is going. IF there is a band.
If it's some guy with a mac trying to be kewl in his mommas house, that's kinda lame, in a pathetic kinda way..... If you can truly play, then you get your ass out there and play.
Rule number one: Don't be a pussy.
Rule number two: Play your ass off.

TONTO is an acronym for "The Original New Timbral Orchestra," the first, and still the largest, multitimbral polyphonic analog synthesizer in the world, designed and constructed over several years by Malcolm Cecil. TONTO started as a Moog modular synthesizer Series III owned by record producer Robert Margouleff. Later a second Moog III was added, then four Oberheim SEMs, two ARP 2600s, modules from Serge with Moog-like panels, EMS, Roland, Yamaha, etc.[3] plus several custom modules designed by Serge Tcherepnin and Cecil himself - who has an electrical engineering background.[4] Later, digital sound-generation circuitry and a collection of sequencers were added, along with MIDI control. All of this is housed in an instantly-recognizable semi-circle of huge curving wooden cabinets, twenty feet in diameter and six feet tall....

REAL Synthesis, kids.
WooHoo!

There was once a digital synthesizer. The time was the mid seventies. It was the only digital synthesizer on the planet.
It was as big as a house. It was designed, built, and resided at BELL LABS.
Yeah, the "phone" company....

Uncle Larry was chosen to pilot this new machine.

(he is Peter Gabriels' keyboard guy since the mid-seventies)

Fuck it, Here's the el pee:
Y'all have no idea what kind of engineering went in to the electronic instruments that
we all enjoy (or not) today.
The music itself is inconsequential.
What matters is the tech was developed in the USA and then Raped by Japan....
...with the blessings of our own gubbmint.

Where did the tech come from? Right here in the USA.

A History lesson:

Eh, I think if you're just a guy with a mac in his mommas house and that's just what you do for fun, then more power to ya... ...but you should probably at least get your own place. The idea is that you don't quit your day job unless the money is coming in. That image of someone trying to "make it" from their bedroom in their parent's house is pretty lame. I've met a few people like this who think they're hot shit, but really their music is just passable and they ain't got nothing going on... ...no listeners outside of their own circle of people.

There are definitely times when you have to stop and assess what the fuck it is you're really doing and why. If your head isn't in it, then you have to check where your heart is at.

I dunno, there are all sorts of people out there. If you just wanna make music in your bedroom and put some of it out there, that's cool. As long as you know where you're at, bills are paid, and that's all you really wanna do with it. The lifestyle isn't for everyone. For some, it's merely another way of enjoying music.

But if you truly want to make music as a full time job and know you can pull it off, then something is very wrong if you aren't doing everything you can to make that a reality. You gotta play some real moves and start taking some risks.

OK this done pissed off the 'ol lady!
Not quite my cup 'o tea. BUT I kinda dig it.........
yeah the monster vocals arent for everyone. its an interesting contrast though. one of those songs in about meditation. they do another one about using your mind to heal yourself. they seem to be going on the theory that sometimes you have to shake people awake to get their attention.

lots of good tracks in your recent posts as always. you never slack in your duties ;)

heres a bit of isis.

I think you're missing the point.

Grab your geetar, your Prophet5, your B3, your Pbass, your kit.
What the fuck? I ain't arguin'....

Making a living from music requires being a real baddass. ... or superior marketing.

Neither am I man! I get what you're saying. It's not complicated and you're very direct. It goes without saying for most people. Not really a whole lot to say about what it takes that everybody doesn't already know. Why would anybody want to argue that?

Of course! It's especially true now. Everybody plays an instrument. Music is such an oversaturated market and people are very selective about what music they throw their money at. You gotta really have that thing that only the top 1% have to even get recognized. And its only then that the real hustle begins... ...everyone tries and even the best can fail. It's one hell of an endeavor to put your whole life into. To become something more than a man, you've gotta forget the pain of being a man. Otherwise, you're just another guy with a guitar and a microphone. It takes luck, but nobody becomes larger than life only by chance.

up watching off the air and saw some great short films and great music
Wait, they still do that? If so, then for the first time in a very long time, I miss having TV service. It's such a treat to catch it randomly. It catches you off guard and then vanishes... ...and you never know if/when it's gonna come back. It's like finding hidden treasures. Always thought the concept of it was brilliant. It makes you feel like you're seeing something that most people never see... ...like a comet or a bald eagle.

good call @robot zombie, i havnt heard that album for a few years. maybe i should make a death playlist for building coils today...this track always fills me full of feels
It's such a good Death album... ...but yeah, definitely one of the more overlooked. Nobody ever remembers it when I bring it up. I think a lot of people look no further in time than Individual Thought Patterns, which, to be fair, leaves you with their best albums. But c'mon man!

I think if I wanted to start an uninitiated person on classic death metal, this would be one of my picks. It's the real deal - straight-up, actual death metal. But the mix is more euphonic than others of its era and the material itself is more digestible. Nothing missing and nothing extraneous. Again, not their best, but a perfect album in some ways.

I loved that album back in high school, though. Voice of the Soul in particular is a very special song for me. It resonated with me a lot when I was going through that period of existential awakening that everyone goes through in their mid-late teens... ...you know - the part after the angst rolls off a little bit and you start noticing how crazy shit generally is.

Been really enjoying obnoxious stuff like this through my newly completed headphone setup. I'm addicted to the way it sounds. Never woulda been caught dead listening to this kind of shit two years ago... ...I liked electronic music, but thought anything with wubs was shit. Downtempo and IDM was all that I cared about.

I'm finding that's just electronic music in general for me, though. As I listen to more, I'm finding myself appreciating things that I previously would've thought were garbage increasingly more often. Funny how acquisition works sometimes. I feel conflicted listening to this, but for whatever reason I welcome it. It's like a switch flips and it magically becomes interesting to me. *shrugs*

@anavidfan classy choices as always

@robot zombie i agree, but i place the album a bit higher on the scale i think. i may have liked it more because i was that stupid fan who didnt like the direction they went with symbolic and was glad they came back, instead of going further away...

and strangely, i also learned to not hate the wubs in the last two or three years. i was living with this rasta dude and we had a lot of parties, which lead to a lot of dancing around the bonfire out back. youtube always autoplayed us away from the reggae into various 'dubstep remixes of popular songs' kind of playlists. after countless nights dancing around the fire (sun, snow, rain, day, night, whenever) i learned to feel it and appreciate it more. i actually learned to let myself dance during those times (was always that guy who just wouldnt dance for any reason whatsoever) so i guess the music was an important part of my development as a human. dancing is good for you ;)

heres one im not too sure of yet. i guess you could call it prog metal (the majority of the time). theres a lot of range of style and sound, but because of that, they often travel into territories i dont personally like. other times they are doing everything i like. i just looked them up and it looks like theres about sixty five guys in the band. maybe its a too many cooks situation...
