Open faced with mashed potatoes and gravy... where is this? I think you found heaven. No joke I could live off just potatoes, but being a history fan I know how that goes :D

Detroit and environs had a restaurant chain called Elias Bros, it was "home of the Big Boy", analogous to Shoney's down here. Still one of my fave food choices, mashed spuds and any kind of gravy. :D (that meatloaf with mushrooms, mashed spuds and gravy last weekl was AWESOME). I'm with ya on potatoes, there are SO MANY ways to fix them! LoveLOVELOVE potatoes.

He use to eat meatball on his pizza, and then one day, not any more. He has serious food issues (which makes feeding him almost impossible). When he was younger, he use to eat ANYTHING, and I swear that he would eat MORE rice than a Chinese person:D. NOW....his limited menu includes cheese pizza, mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, bacon cheeseburgers, and grilled cheese. He'll eat PB and Fluff, and salami and cheese for lunch. Breakfast is either a bagel, bread items, or DRY cereal....cuz' he doesn't want his cereal to be soggy. We TRY to get him to try different foods.....but it's NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE:eek:.......(unless it's a dessert or snack food).
Well what worked for me was beating my ass, but I wouldn't recommend it :p

The worst was when my dad in his attempt to get me to eat salad put lettuce at the bottom of some icecream, ohh man I almost beat his ass.

I was the same way though, sneak it in, don't say anything, slowly make him question things. Take some grilled onion and throw it ontop of the burger then put the cheese on so he doesn't see it, not a ton, but enough to add the flavor, then next time he eats a burger without it he'll be wondering why it just doesn't taste the same.

As a kid one of my favorite things, even though I too hated soggy cereal, was Graham Cracker cereal, just break up some graham crackers and pour some milk on, once I had that soggy cereal didn't seem so bad as I was used to it from that amazing treat. Then again Milk was never an issue, my brothers and I would go through a gallon or more a day if we had the option.

What about quesadillas? It's like Grilled cheese, but again in both you can sneak some stuff in that he won't notice. Dice up some tomato finely and slip it in. "why is the cheese chunky?" Ohh it's just good cheese, it melts differently.

Anyways, that's what happened to me, and I'm glad people did it. At this point I tell people to shut up if they start telling me what's in something, if it looks good I'll try it. I still can't eat lettuce though, makes me nauseous as it always has.

Anchovies naw, but if someone put some yellowtail on it I wouldn't complain, though I'd probably smack them for not just grilling the yellowtail up and serving that alone.
Grilled in corn pouches with diced maters would be freaking amazing. Even though i don't care for maters much (texture not the taste)

It's REALLY TOUGH with my son!......He looks and thoroughly INSPECTS EVERYTHING that he eats. He used to make us take the little black specks (spices) that were on top of the pizza:rolleyes:. Luckily.....he stopped that now. Trust me.....we TRY!

The good news that is all kids eventually grow up. So he'll either learn to eat sanely, or he'll move out and it won't be your problem anymore. :D

I had a pretty good policy when my son was growing up. "Eat it or starve." It worked really well -- he wouldn't eat chinese food in a chinese restaurant if you beat him, but he'd eat it if i made it. why? I think "eat it or starve" had a good bit to do with it. :D

Naw, I get it, I totally do, because I was him. Pepper on eggs, "FUCK!!!!!! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!" and I'd not eat it. My Grandma though would make "cheese pizza" later I found out she would put finely diced mushrooms in with the cheese and I honestly could never tell. It was the best "cheese" pizza though. Anyways, I feel your pain, and his, and wish you the best with it. I'm still a pretty damned picky eater.

My "food weirdness" when I was a kid wasn't being picky, there are only a few foods that I absolutely will not eat -- liver, turnip greens, fruit salad -- but no foods on my plate could touch any other foods. and I ate them one at a time, always. I've since read that this is a clear symptom of ADD, and yeah, I had that, though at the time no one knew what that was, it hadn't been "invented" yet. :D

My brother was that way, not ADD, but just could not handle his foods touching. Me i was the opposite, mix that shit up! Casseroles are awesome! Again, Iearned to eat good things by having them hidden so I more learned to not look rather than to like the individual things.

My brother's other thing was flour, still freaks out about it and he's 22. The texture he just can't handle, other powdered things like sugar, fine, but flour, no no no. If we got some good Sheepherders bread, he'd cut off all the crust.

Used to go every summer down to baja and catch plenty of those (and other things), unfortunately it's been a while. Used to hate fish (again me being picky) but after having some fish that was caught and cooked within an hour, well, yeah it changes you. I will say, wtf is up with lemon on fish? It doesn't need it! why do people do this?!?!? I like Lemon in the proper setting, but god on fish (and in water), get that away from me! Toss some salt, maybe garlic and butter but again unnecessary and grill the thing and give it to me.

I got over it -- many casseroles are among my favorites -- but there are still elements of it remaining, like not wanting pineapple or BBQ sauce on pizza -- to me, mostly, combining sweet and savory flavors just doesn't work, it really turns me off -- I was in my 20s before I would even consider putting cream cheese on date nut bread. I've since learned that cream cheese can go either way, sweet or savory... but I still won't even consider that odious "pear salad" -- pears with cottage cheese sitting on lettuce of all things. Ick. And fruit never ever goes into salad!!!!!!!

That's possible, though I don't generally keep it on hand -- I do keep sour cream on hand, and it always goes in. :D When I make the parmesan-crusted fried chicken, I add some ranch dressing to the mashed spuds. :)

Sounds just like my little man. But mine has sensory processing disorder and possibly autistic so he literally can't stand a lot of foods. The flavors are overload or can't handle the texture. Weird kid I don't know why I keep him around haha (kidding, love my boy)

I haven't made them yet, but I want to.

Combine all my favorite mashed potato recipes, Put some cauliflower in it (makes them lighter and you really can't taste the difference, or I can't), season it well including some hefty spice, add cream cheese and a sharp chedder or other stronger cheese. Then use half cream and half milk rather than just milk for consistency.

I want that. Someday I'll either make it or have my brother's wife do it. She makes 3 different kinds, so all but the cream cheese were from her, but she hasn't ever combined them all for me :(. She has her spicey/cheesy, her heavy (with the cream), and the light (with cauliflower). The cream cheese my friend's mom made before and it was pretty awesome too.

Living in El Cajon it is about 12mi to Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Beach..in season they run 1/2, 3/4 and 1.5 day trips locally.. Thx to El Nino Yellowtail have been caught right off Point Loma last year..big fish too!
I have my fish filleted by the crew on the way back in to the dock...big plastic bags of boneless skinless fillets ready for the freezer..
I prefer Yellowtail and yellowfin tuna fillets smoked over hickory, severed with a tossed green salad, and maybe buttered cornbread... I don't do lemon either, but do make up some tuna salad with Mayo for sandwiches later.. But I probly can eat a10 lb smoked fillet all by myself, its that good! lol

The step daughter used to just pull everything off her pizza and just eat the cheese and not touch anything else, it would get thrown away.
NOT in my house, the ex was as batshit as her 5 year old.
Next time pizza came around and the ex tried to pull shit off her pizza she asked me to order I took her pizza in front of her kid and the kid's pizza and gave them a wad of melted cheese with pasta sauce dribbled on it.
They did not like that and I explained throwing away food was not going to be happening anymore and if they did not like it then they could buy and make their own but the picky food shit was done for in the house.
It became you ate what is provided for you or you fucking starve. And since I was paying for everything they had a choice, eat like a normal person or go hungry.

Love the attitude, though i will say one thing, I like getting Jalepenos on pizza and taking them off. Not a big fan of the hunks but what they do for the flavor/spice by cooking on top is perfect. Sometimes I'll eat them, but sometimes not, just depends on my mood... and of course since I pay for my own pizza I'll do waht I want! :D

I love the hell out of lettuce -- it's kinda like whipped cream; anything good with it, is better with MORE of it! In the small town we lived in, everytime we walked into Arbys, the whole crew hollered "the lettuce lady's here!" :D When I go to subway, lettuce is one of the things I always get... and have to get them to put it on THREE TIMES, to get enough. Basically I want a salad, on a nice bun. :D

But only iceberg; that limp romaine shit might be ok for wiping one's rear, but useless as food. Lettuce should CRUNCH!

Appreciate the love for a food, but the stuff makes me nauseous. When I grab a fast food burrito I can taste if the tortilla has even touched a piece of lettuce, and *shudder*.

I'm that way about liver. Once when I worked in a steakhouse that offered liver and onions, I had to learn that fancy over-the-head carry, because I couldn't even stand the smell of it -- to me, it smells like spoiled meat.

Oh and I nipped the two bite "I'm done!"going to go play bullshit right in the ass. For the ex wife also.
Ass stayed in chair until dinner was over for everyone.
Only ate two bites and pulled that shit... guess you are staying there until it gets eaten... Oh the tantrums means you get it for a snack later, if the dog has not gotten to it before you get back to it.
Oh the pooch ate the food? no snack for you then.

Deep sea fishing is awesome, the one downside is it makes lake fishing boring as hell. Nothing like fighting a fish for a 30...60... 100minutes, and even if it cuts the line at the end it's still fun! The only thing that would ever piss me off is the damned sealions, bastards. I'd want to get a gaff and jump in after them every time.

Problem is hot sauce is usually vinegar-y and ruins it, and cooking with the spice melds it with the flavor. Ehh it's the best way for a nice mellow kick IMO, but I agree fully with the texture and wads of fuck.
