great to see you, missed ya.
I've been speed-reading the forum at night but found nothing for which I could contribute without my crankiness showing because -->. My last week has consisted mainly of forking shit out of the horse barn. Due to an abnormally large amount of snow on the ground during the winter this year, the barn hasn't been cleaned since last Fall and... well... over five days I have removed 53 wheelbarrows (appx. 8 cubic feet per) of wet hay, compacted with horse and steer shit, stomped in hard. I have probably another 25-30 wheelbarrows to go. Managed to take a day off from that yesterday and mow that acre of dog yard and the south lawn, but I gotta get off of here now and go back to the barn. Sigh... My tired old body can't keep doing this crap much longer...

It's the compacted hay that is the worst to clean out.

Oh, good God, I'm still two pages behind, and already the thread has swerved into the ditch. I'd already quoted this, so I'll go ahead and reply, then go hide in a corner for a while...

First off....Hey :D Long time no see! Hows things?!

Secondly...
I would absolutely LOVE to raise my own beef, lamb and chicken. I am therefore jealous of those who do!

It's not an easy job, so don't be too envious. ;) But the results are worth it. You know, there's the "grain fed" camp and the "grass fed" camp, and never the 'twain shall meet (it's a more contentious subject than politics or raw milk), but after having eaten grass-fed two year old beef, I'm firmly in the grass fed camp. The flavor is so much more "beef" than grain fed, and people say you don't get marbling without graining - which is hogwash. Our beef was plenty marbled, AND tender, and I could eat the fat (which actually had a flavor), because there was no residue from the corn in it. It's the most wonderful beef ever! (And if anyone wants to try to convince me that grain fed is better, it's only because you haven't had good grass fed beef. ;))

I have had mutton and I found it to be delicious. I will admit that its a bit tougher if not cooked properly and I would usually recommend doing more braising with it than anything else but it also makes a great burger if you can grind it all up.;)

Thanks, that's good to know, and wouldn't you know it? We have a big grinder!

Hunters is guilty of doing what I call the Sysco Truck which is to say that they literally put anything and everything from the freezer(all products from Sysco) on their burger thus overpowering any potential beef flavor and burger texture...how can you call that "love"?

You have Sysco up there? I used them when I had my little pizza shop back in Oregon. They were great to work with and didn't even care that we were a dinky little Mom & Pop place. :)

Hey, it's all Rixy's fault you know, the rest of us tried to steer away from the ditch.

And by the way, you aren't interested in buying a bridge are you? I just so happen to have one available...(whistling innocently)

LOL, yup we got Sysco and they're great! Well they're great for your standard products that are essential to run any restaurant but when it comes to food I really prefer local product which you just dont get from big corporate suppliers like Sysco. That said, most of the product I use at the university comes from Sysco and thats out of my control.

I have a friend who is owns and operates a cattle farm. I know its no easy job and in that respect Im less envious but I still appreciate the value of the payoff and Id love to be able to do it myself even with the work it entails. :D

I really hope y'all can and will move to a place that's easier on y'all and get some help. I know you love the benefits of y'alls place, but I do worry bout y'all.

Just waiting on @Debadoo to drop in and see what she missed this morning.
lmao...........jup, wuz thinkin I leave for a day and the whole thread goes to hell hehehe At least I didn't come back to just 3 posts. lol

She might put that frying pan to use when she does. Good thing I didn't play any role in the discussion.
Gonna line all y'all up for a group beatin......and you git whacked twice for lyin! :teehee:

Im jealous Rix! I love lamb!!!! I dont get it often around here but its definitely one of my favorite meats!
I had it one time when I was a kid in the form of chops. Dad didn't tell me what it was til I was done. They were delicious, but when he told me I cried. I'd be like Lannie with the lamb livin in the house and sleepin in the bed

There are other major flaws in the execution of this "contest" which have made it a joke IMO, but its been working to drive up the restaurant industry so they continue to blindly and greedily encourage more and more restaurants to participate every year.
that's awful! Good on ya for not participating

I love lamb but it's way too expensive for people like us. The only way we could afford lamb would be to buy one from the neighbor and have it butchered, but that ain't gonna happen. You have a cute fuzzy lamb run up and yell "MAAAAAAA!" in your face and there's no way you could ever kill it. Little shit would be sleeping in our living room... or at the foot of the bed. And once it was big enough to be annoying, it would be mutton, which I've never had, but heard is not nearly as good as a tender lamb. So beef it is, at least for us.
JUP! Great to see ya hun.......been missin ya!

For the record: A quality burger is all about the beef, properly ground, followed by proper cooking technique. NOT fourteen inches of condiments that look like a Carmen Miranda headdress
You said it!!!

That year we came in second place to the Goddess Burger which had a mediterranean theme and was very well balanced and very delicious.
oh kewl!

For the record, a good juicy burger can still be obtained when cooking it well done. It requires more care and control in your cooking process but it can and must be done.
Jup! Typically it's used in meatballs or meatloaf, but a little bread soaked in milk is one way. I'm not a big fan of it, but definitely makes it moist.

And why do you know this?

tapatalking drive by

not really young but the 10, 11, 12s,
oh wow, hadn't even thought about that, just figured it was all adults. Jup that would bother me as well

@Rixsta I totally understand that but just to clear things up, I would rather wear clothes and be with you than be nekkid without you. As long as I can go to my nudist resort now and then it's all good. Would I move there, yes, today ! but you and the kids come before me so I'm happy enough x
Respect! :)

but right now the mods I am using have no screens at all.
mine either :)

the Church had a strong roof.
Is that where you were sitting??? :D

Wait, she's almost here. OK, I'm off to bed before the frying pan shows up.

Well with the impending frying pan of doom Im sticking around for a bit.

I usually dont talk much vape stuff in this thread but Ive got something to ummmm....review I guess.

A few months ago I heard about using actual alcohol as a flavoring for DIY e-juice. The person who mentioned it said that they werent aware of the safety of the matter and whether or not it should be done but they were trying it anyway and they liked it. Being a big fan of single malt scotch I decided to give it shot, I mean, really its not like Im breaking the bank putting 3mls of scotch in a 30ml bottle along with some VG and nic and it cant possibly be worse for me than smoking ever was right? So with that disclaimer out of the way here is what I did:

3ml Bowmore Scotch (Islay single malt, smokey and delicious, think harsher cheaper Lagavulin if you're a scotch drinker)
1.5ml 50mg PG nic base
25ml VG

I tried it immediately and was highly unimpressed. It was alright at best but sweet and no scotch flavor of any kind. I left it alone for about a month and a half, maybe more, and today I picked it up again on a whim and dropped a few in my Kennedy on a brass King V2 mech running .25 dual 24AWG. It is NICE!!!!! Its got a bit of peat smoke but not as much as I would like, still sweet but not overly so, definite whiskey flavor but smoother than anything Ive ever tasted from a bottle. I am definitely going to make this recipe again and maybe up the scotch content to about 15% and see how that vapes. Again, this is not an ADV for me, its a treat and I have no idea what the possible effect of vaping drinkable alcohol might be, I just tried something and it made a really delicious e-juice. If anyone reading this has concerns about diketones and such in the juices or not knowing what they're vaping then dont try this, but I just wanted to share this experience.

Hey darlin. After it sits that long, it's possible the alcohol might evap out. But since you mentioned it I will tell you that according to Kurt Kistler who is kinda the resident chemist on ECF, and just looking it up, it's really not good to inhale alcohol. I wouldn't think drinking alcohol would be much different than rubbing alcohol in this sense. Just wanted to let you know.

Howdy Deb!!!!(did I say that right? I mean with my quirky Canadian accent and all? ;) )

This thread sure did perk up a bit today its been fun! :D

Never tried soaking bread in milk before adding to ground beef, if I were to try it I'd lean more towards buttermilk or cream for the fat content. Sounds like a good trick though.

Awesome score on your GC!!!! Just DONT order the Predator(on a flash sale right now for real cheap)...mine still hasnt arrived yet and Im already disappointed!:(
