It makes sense, like the middle part is where the rod comes up to make contact... but if that's the case, wouldn't the metal around it make contact as well? I think you were onto something with the swirl marks, like it's a juice flow mechanism in one of them over engineered rtas

Whatever it is, their finger is in the middle, laying flat...so it's not a tube, otherwise that's some long as fingers...

Which also says how thick the middle part is as you can see by the center part.

There is also a slight ledge where the center is compared to the outside diameter, and those holes are recessed.

If I had to guess how tall it is...no taller than a switch housing

This switch is a thinner part, then the actual housing below, you can see the faint separating line on them.
