KD colors well when it's almost white hot. I feel like I'm going to blow past them. I get the best color when I stagger with it.

I finally got some ribbon to work and turn out half ass. Thanks for all the tips everyone. Now i just need to get a damn macro camera cause i know my pics really suck...its depressing. But what i made work is 6 ply .4 ka1, framed with 28g n80, stagger wrapped 36g n80(cause i wanted to be able to see the ribbon inside but my camera sucks). You can see it ok on one of the back legs. I ran out of rdas to mount it in but ill get that soon!0110170030a.jpg

I had no idea how hard it is to coil up with the ribbon on its side like that. I ruined a big portion of the strand by letting it get a small twist in it and then trying to fix it. That shit bends and never goes back! You really gotta keep it flat or its fugly

Good job dude.
What sort of phone do you have?
The picture doesn't look bad but no camera can do macro right out of the box.
If you're using a phone just get a cheap macro clip for it.
Turn up the picture quality and play with the settings. For the best pictures just going outside does wonders. I can focus closer outside and the colors are 10x better. Almost every shot I take turns out good.

Also Open Camera is a great app and gives you more options and control than most stock camera apps.

Don't use the zoom on the phone either. It makes the picture grainy. I set mine to 4:3 and crop it down.

And yeah, coiling. If you start to get a bend just stop and cut that part off. Sometimes they just flop though. If you don't have a coilmaster v4 it's a cheap way to make it a little easier.
When I make an 8" stick for two coils I cut it in half so any bends can't transfer to the next piece.

First post! Been vaping on and off for a year or two, but only started building a couple weeks ago. This is the second (successful) build I have in my Moonshot. (Won it in a waffle early 2016. Didn't know what I was getting myself into at the time.)

Dual 24g twisted Kanthal, 5/6 wrap, 3mm ID. Comes in at 0.27ohms. Currently vaping it @82 watts.

All I have is some 24g Kanthal. I plan on ordering 100ft spools of various sizes from Temco tomorrow.

If you're trying to start building Temco is an awesome place.
I'd get lots of 28g, 26g and 1k' of 34g and 36g.
For cores I'd get A1 and wrap n80.

Had a bit of build time over the weekend, some successful 26 & 24g fused with
.4 x .1 ribbon on the left a couple of fused claptons on the right and my first failed attempt at Alien wire front and centre.

It looks like you rolled the decore and the alien in the same direction. The reason I say that is because they're really far apart and there's a really deep swoop on one side.

On the plus side my second attempt at Alien wire was a little more successful but not enough to coil.
41bd2aeccfae6f622280d44c3415c561.jpg

After a few more attempts I got enough to try and wrap a few but not enough for a faultless usable coil.

Hopefully future attempts will prove more successful.

Main struggle was maintaining the right pressure to keep the core wires flat but keep it wrapping correctly.

Exactly what happened, I just went with it anyway then watched a few videos and realised what I had done then tried again.

Just out of interest, What's everyone's preferred method for making Aliens...

Eg. With swivels and tape every few inches, paper clip, key ring etc.

I'm sure the more experienced can just do it in the drill freehand if the stretch and pressure is correct for short pieces?

Let me know your thoughts Guys and Girls?

Im using an LG stylo 2 now but sometimes use my old s4. Ive got a macro clip in my ebay cart and once i get straightened backnout from christmas I'm ordering, along with some magnified goggles, a hand vise, and some kanthal d lol. I'll give that 4:3 ratio a shot and the outdoors pics for sure. I do all my building when i get off work at night so my only light source is an LED desk lamp that clips on to whatever. If I'm gonna keep practicing builds I seriously need to upgrade my work area, but little at a time. That coilmaster v4, is that the one that has a slot to hold your lead? I have the v2 toolkit and it has the old version which i hardly use anymore. It doesnt hold the bigger wires but i see the new one can

If you set up the cores well you really don't need much drill tension or anything to keep the cores flat. As the alien goes over the cores it actually flattens them if they started off flat. Imo, hotglue is your best friend.

This^^^^ hotglue really helped me.

With 28g or smaller cores, still have a hard time with the cores collapsing, so also used a piece of ribbon wire wrapped around the cores and crimped flat as a slider.

Yeah bind the cores with ribbon till it bunches then smash the ribbon flat. That works too.

When you do even numbers of cores just loop long pieces over the swivel.

Ever since raymo told me about the ribbon slider trick building multi-core wires has never been easier. That and hot glue have REALLY helped my build skills tremendously! When i first heard ppl talk about using hot glue, i thought "im not setting up a damn glue gun just for a little dot!" but then someone (im sorry for forgetting who) linked me to a Build Mode or Mind Forge video of his ssfc build where he just takes his lighter and heats up the end of a stick. Super simple. Its tricks like these that changed the game for me and inspires me to try more advanced builds. That sense of accomplishment is like no other!

Hey I dont have a cotton sponser....I dont get everything free...I do have to buy mods and stuff...lol I never thought Id have the support I have though. but if you build with the intent to shock and awe and do it often enough it can help get the attention you are looking for. Ive noticed that people like odd/wierd and crazy builds....they draw the most attention, it doesnt have to be difficult or intricate, most of my most liked content on Instagram was with round wire or super simple stuff.
These are some of my most liked content...mostly comprised of simple claptons/aliens or round wire just used in a irregular fashion. People may think its becuase of my following but to be honest my top 3 3 highest liked posts are from when I had less then 3000 followers and the #1 was a Cat Track glow clip...nothing special but the point is build to grab attention of people that dont understand how things are put together so if you can stun them and its not overly complicated then you have a winning combo.

Appreciate it. I'll probably stick with Kanthal for now, and I have no need for 1000 foot spools, don't wanna spend that kind of money right away. It looks like Lightning Vapes is slightly cheaper than Temco for spools, I may do that. I'll probably get 100' spools of 24g, 26g, and 28g, then 250 foot spools of 32g and 36g.

Temco wire is better. I never used any of my 32g. Good for cattracks though. When I started building I went through a good 100' of 36g a day trying to alien.

Then that's what I'll go with! It was something like 50 cents difference anyways, so it's no big deal. I think Temco has free shipping, too, but I may be mistaken.

I learned to clapton with 32g at first and after the first 100' roll then i got some 34, 36, and 38. Now im practicing with ribbon wire and when i get pretty good with that im moving up to 40 & 42g. For me it was good to start with big fat easy to manage wires and once i felt comfortable moved up gauge at a time. Thats just me though. I need to try some temco wire for sure...never had any yet. Hows that killer-b wire on ebay?

Geekvape doesnt do much for their advertising builders....I was pretty surprised at the support they offer, if they dont respond to the team in the next week they will be one of the sponsers we will be dropping. They make great products and changed the RTA industry with the Griffin....but the lack of communication and support doesnt go unnoticed.

The Hohm Wrecker G2 is the only regulated mod Id recommend to builders and normal vapers alike...and now with coupon code G2FLASH at vaporcube.com its only $60.

Damn i hate to hear that man. They should at least give yall a 521 tab or some shit! I guess they sponsor people so theyll advertise for them for free. Not cool.

$60 bucks for that thing? Jeez thats a steal! I am for sure getting one very soon then! I cant believe more mod mfg dont make something that fires below .1 with the way building has taken off. Its total bs. That g2 looks damn sexy too i really like the looks of it, and from what ive read online it has so many great features and a nice chipset. I was wanting an ipv 8 (that centered 510 bro!) but i think ill sub that out for the g2 when taxes get back...tax time, a vapers Christmas lol

Get it as soon as you can, if the sale ends Ill see what else can be done...it is the most advanced chipset to date and most people that have tried the dna200 will tell you they like the G2 more for its functionality...just check the G2 thread to see what people think of it..

Its 25mm but its tapered on the edge so it looks good for both 22mm and 24mm toppers. Not only is it powerful but I think it actually adds to my pictures..thats why I make sure its included in them and not some other mod or the RDA on a stand...the red and silver really help bring out the coils colors

They've been on sale with that G2flashx1 code for 6 mos or so. They run out occasionally, but keep coming back. I been eyeballing them, too. Just got a Slice(g2 baby brother) a couple weeks ago for $30. Pretty badass lil mod for only 101w.

It looks like he made a really long polished 20g coil. Probably to be cut into sections and sold.
Yes the G2 will fire anything but with a 45a limit. If you build under 0.1ohm you'll find out what that means pretty fast.

Hey chef what do you use to make one that damn long?
Usually it's done on a drill bit with toothless pliers.

Are the grooves in the wire a clapton or is it from the polishing process?
It's just a long 20g coil

The toothless pliers method is for flattening coils, not polishing. On these, I start with a file, then sandpaper and polishing cloth from 100 grit all the way up to 12,000 grit.

Squidoode did a video using the pliers to knock the round off of it but a file seems like the obvious tool. Not that I thought to use one. Lol.
I want to try pretty soon. Looks awesome as a staged wire.
