Hey folks. Hope necroing the thread a bit isn't an issue (I mean, it has been going for years though lol), but I thought I might have some beneficial info for those with liver issues.
I was recently diagnosed with NAFLD, NASH, and Hemochromatosis. After a year of seeing specialists, finally got to one that recommended vitamin E to bring my iron levels down, but also said that it helps reduce liver enzyme levels in the blood. Started 800IU (doctor's orders, max daily recommended is 400IU) daily, but was having issues with drowsiness that didn't start until I began taking it, so I cut back on it some and the drowsiness went away. Roughly 2.5 months later, got a blood test done (routine thing prior to quarterly phlebotomy I get to manage iron levels), and after having high iron, ALT, and AST for a year or better (ALT and AST were 10x max normal number for that time), all 3 were back in normal range. Vitamin E did the trick for me where even massive dietary changes did not (ended up going vegan with an avoidance of high iron veggies lol have milk and fish allergies, it sucked, but also didn't help, so I ended up reverting after a while, just avoid red meat most of the time and try to limit iron rich foods to some degree still).
I cant speak as to whether the ALT/AST levels declined because of the reduced iron levels (iron buildup causes inflammation, and is stored primarily in the liver. ALT/AST tend to be an indicator of liver inflammation), or if vitamin E lowered them directly, but thought it worth sharing in hopes it might benefit someone. Not like vitamin E is a bad thing to take anyway.
Ive been vaping for around 5 years now to manage anxiety, which does the trick for me (ex wife convinced me that smoking helped her anxiety. It helped my attacks happen less often, but they seemed more severe when they did happen. Vape has cut the severity and frequency both, and is even better with full spectrum CBD, but different topic). Cut back from 10-12mL of 6mg a day to 4-5mL of the same during this timeframe, didn't have an effect on the liver test results one way or the other. Changed juices (I prefer max VG personally, anything higher than 30% PG feels like taking a long drag off a mostly burned cigarette, just burns. Even some 70/30 has that effect, but not all), no change. Maybe just me, maybe not, but in my experience, it doesnt seem the vaping correlates with liver issues. Vitamin E helped with mine, hoping maybe it would be of benefit to others, possibly. Recommend talking to a doc about it, but it also isn't some crazy remedy with risks to it either, so either way.
Anyhow, sorry for necroing, hope all is well with everyone.
