I think my problem is my schedule. I work evenings...4-11. Now, if I worked days, say 8-5, I'd get up at 6, go to work, come home and do the usual evening after work things and be in bed by 10:30 or 11. In my mind, at 12,12:30 I should be sleeping but I still have to burn off the energy from being at work etc. So, if I shifted my schedule to an evening schedule, I'd be going to bed around 5 am and getting up around 1 which ain't happening.

So it sounds like your sleep schedule is sorta like mine... go to bed about 2-3am, get up about 11-12? It's workable, but it does take some getting used to. The fact that you have to be sleeping while the rest of the world is getting up and active means you REALLY need some kind of white-noise in your bedroom.

I doubt if there is anyplace in the metro ATL area that isn't bathed in EMR constantly.
You are absolutely correct. Everyone who lives in any large city in inundated with EMR 24/7. And near RADAR or cell phone towers and cross-country power lines. (This is another reason why we live as far out in the country as possible) The best you can do is minimize the closest generators of it. BTW, the fan restriction isn't about airflow, but the EMR the motor generates. Having it on its lowest setting is minimizing it, but it is still generating EMR, so get it as far from your head as possible.

Well, the 2-3am is about right but I wake up at 8:30 every morning without an alarm clock. And once my eyes are open, I'm up. And there's no one here but my son and he sleeps until 12 or 1.

White noise generators can be purchased as a specific device (as opposed to relying on the drone of a fan), but I would suggest mounting it as far from the bed as possible. They have adjustable volume (like a transistor radio), so you could put it at the far end of the room and still hear the waves splashing or creek babbling. Better yet, hook up a remote speaker in your bedroom and put the actual device in another room.

Well, the white-noise fan is; it's over in the corner, facing the wall; nothing I can do about the position of the overhead fan. But without it running, I sweat my ass off; if I get too warm, I wake up and there's no going back to sleep till my body temp lowers again.

Blocking out noise, and keeping cool, help my sleep a LOT more than getting motors out of my room would, since I live right in the city of Lawrenceville, there are planes overhead pretty much round the clock, and I'm only about 25-30 miles from one of the largest cities in the world.

I've lived near ATL my whole life, so I'm probably pretty much accustomed to a constant level of EMR. I've identified that the largest reason for my lifelong insomnia is a slightly longer than 24-hr cycle... and my lifelong anxiety problem -- the easiest way to make sure I can't go to sleep? Set an alarm clock. I won't sleep at all. :D

I've never understood those machines that mimic the sound of water -- that would just make me have to pee! I already have to get up at least once every night; with one of those in the room, I'd wet the bed!

I looked at whitenoise machines, but none of them seem workable to me; they're either water-sounds, or they go off automatically after a while, or something. Fans are cheap; box fans are noisy -- perfect!

On the farm til I was 30 and hard warehouse work since.

Old school!!!!

I lay down at 9pm, Close my eyes and wake up at 5am'

Lights on. Lights off. Cell phone near or far. Blue clock in room. TV or radio on or off. Dogs barking or no barking. No exceptions to being exhausted.

Hell last week a huge gang fight broke out near my bedroom window. Lotta yelling and screaming and police and one man dead. I didn't hear about it until I got to work and was asked what I thought about it..

Kinda hard to digest sometimes when you become aware you are having a conversation with someone 39 years younger than yourself... trying to compare likes and dislikes and favorite shows, etc., can seem very silly. Sigh.

Fuck I'm supposed to send you some glass.

I forgot all about it.

Can you ask Lannie if TFA marshmellow will be ok?? They was out of the Cap/

That sucks! I HATED dealing with gangs when I lived in San Antonio. My neighbor had her house shot up and it wasn't even the correct house. Those bozo's "thought" a rival member lived there.

Oh yeah, fer that Kayfunnie thingie... Lannie is upstairs... I'll go ask her.
I loved watching Father Knows Best and The Andy Griffith show. And those were before my time.
I love all the old programs... the ones BEFORE mass murder, huge explosions, blood and gore everywhere, vampires and zombies... you know, like Mayberry.
I just turned 21.
Only for the 29th time...
