Same as usual - just VFW (very fucking windy) and spent way too much time worrying about the Dobie. I think the pills the Vet sold us are not helping and might even be making her feel worse. She seems to be in a lot of pain and her eyes look up at us as if to say "Help me," but there really is nothing we can do.

I had a great day, this juicing makes me feel so much better. It was a little chilly here today might of got up to to 38 or 40 and windy,
Didn't make any juice today, worked...it's kinda hard to believe, I have one building after another scheduled until next Thursday, one day off...Christmas...and if someone wants something done on Christmas, I'm all for it. Never been this busy during the holiday season in my life. Generally it's dead two weeks before and two weeks after the holidays.

The dog isn't doing as well as you'd like, Rich?
What is wrong with him/her?
Her. Zipper. Doberman is about 9.5 years old and apparently has developed a kidney problem which has led to stomach ulcers, or some BS like that. All I know is the damn vet stuck us with bullshit explanations, a bunch of drugs and special foods, a $600 bill we can't afford and our poor old bitch is still in a great deal of pain.

I'm sure Lannie has already tried non-conventional methods, using herbs or other non-man made items?

That's great to have that much business especially at this time of year, things must be booming there.

That sucks and a lot of vets don't know much, some do,

I know most larger dogs don't live really long lives, but she has a ways to go only being 9-1/2

Hopefully you can figure something out, without the "help" of a vet, which in my mind isn't much better than a MD. They just prescribe medicine and other poisons.

I'd try detoxing the kidneys, the same as humans do.
I think we have a handle on the kidneys, now that we know they are a problem. What is causing her the most pain is the stomach ulcer... and she doesn't want to eat or drink the bland foods we need to put in her for a few weeks so as to not aggravate the stomach lining and get her headed toward healing. I can explain to you that you need to eat some tasteless crap and you might even comply because you know this is for your own good, but the Dobie just doesn't understand.

This one is fresh out of school (we could not get in to see our regular one) and hasn't even read the PDR to know what the meds she prescribes actually do and what the side effects are. In my opinion, she is major stupid, has a better-then-thou attitude and I'll never take another animal to her.

Our Dobies typically make it 10-14 years. They are a man-created breed and often have physical problems that take them down anywhere after 8 years or so. We have had several and with a little TLC, live slightly longer.

The reason we took her to a vet is that we cannot run blood tests and don't own an X-ray machine.

I understand. My last dachshund was having seizures, I spent about 20K trying to figure out how to help him, but he lived to be 18 years old. I couldn't stop the seizures, had to put him down, I couldn't watch him suffer any longer.

While it is nice that little dogs live much longer than the big ones, having to watch your little friend suffer can be heart-breaking. I hate the thought of having to terminate the life of a loved one, but like you say, how long can you make them suffer through that pain?

I have had to shoot a few myself... 25 cents for a bullet, $80 to have the vet put them to sleep and we couldn't afford it. Imagine how hard THAT was...
Oh I understand fully, like we mentioned the other night, we both (and others here I assume) think more about animals than humans...I certainly know you and I do. If I had to do what you did, I would, but instead I had to say goodbye to my pal and leave the house when the vet showed up.

I wish I had had the foresight to do that for the last one that we did have the vet inject... but he had his head in my lap and his eyes were asking me why was I doing this to him, then the light went out of them and he was gone. You know us big tough guys and how we don't cry... BULLSHIT! It took a long time for the tears to quit running down my face. Termination can make pussies out of all of us.

Casey, my dog was sleeping, so I just said goodbye, but he couldn't hear me ( that I'm aware of). The seizures took a terrible toll on him, he could barely think toward the end. I fed him by hand for months hoping the seizures would stop, no dice.

Yeah, past midnight and I'm showing signs of turning into a pumpkin, so I better crawl in the sack too.

Nitey nite everybody.
