Charging in the mod (USB - phone charger) OR external charger

Hey guys, how are you?
I dont know what to do, i just bought two 18650 3000 mAh Sony batteries but i dont know how should i charge them. I guess the internal battery charging circuitry in a mod is best used only for emergency uses but i am not 100% sure about it.
Anyway, is it possible to use a phone charger?which one?Should i use an external charger instead? Any suggestions?

Many of my friends told me that the external charger was the best bet but they did not give me a "strong" argument...

Thanks!

If you have removable cells, it's always preferable to charge externally, on a dedicated charger.

Typically, the onboard charger circuits are questionable/iffy/problematic. (For awhile, YiHi was warranting the charger 1/2 as long as their control boards). Further, the USB connector on many boards is only minimally attached to the board: repeated use will ruin some of them - and you may want to use the Update/Upgrade feature at some point.

All of that said, I will keep a usb-charger in the car, for days at work I am busy but the cells look dire for the trip home. It's rare but, yes: I periodically charge thru the port.

Thank you for replying! Have you got any idea which external charger should i buy?

It is best to charge removable 18650 cells on an external charger. However, usb charging is acceptable. I charge many of mine on USB and about once a month I put the battery on the external charger for a refresher of sorts.

I would NOT recommend using your phone charger. You should only use the micro usb charger cables that come with your vaping devices.

This thread would get more eyes by battery aficionados if placed in the battery and charger sub-forum. @Countrypami @MrMeowgi

That being said, I always charge in an external charger. I can keep an eye on them, check their temperature, etc which is not easily done when installed in a mod. If your mods are multi-cell they are usually attached in series, which means there is not individual wires to each battery. One may charge all the way the other may not and all the charge current is going through both batteries. All in all it is better for your batteries and your safety to use an external charger.

I charge in my MOD's using USB all the time for the last 5 years from 1 to 3 cells and never had a problem. Even with 12 external charging bays I never enough free available so I use it. Maybe many years ago the charging circuits were not as reliable as today so take 1st hand experience for what it's worth.

I always use an external charger, and most people will also have multiple sets of batteries so you always have a fresh set for when the batts in your mod drain.

I have used the microusb port on my mod to charge, but very rarely.

Good idea!

I external charge, the only reasons = if I don't use the internal charger, it's one less thing that could break down. and it could be faster.

older mods probably had balance issues, but I bet the newer ones, not so much.

and I do use a cell phone charger on the one internal batt mod I have, no problem.

Well most of the time you have to use your phone charger, most mods or external chargers don't come with one, but yeah use the cables the mod comes with.

I don't know where you are getting your mods or what brand/type. But the mods I buy come with a charging cable 95% of the time. The only mods that don't are mechs.

Yes, every MOD I ever bought or won came with a charging cable although I only use one or twp of them. But I also use my old phone charger in my vehicle and damn lucky I have it in there because one day recently I went out and forgot to put in fresh cells. So I switched to my backup MOD and went for my walk (exercise) and came back to an almost fully charged MOD with 3 Cells.

That's what I said, it comes with the cable. You said don't use the phone charger, most don't come with the charger. Where do you buy yours.

Kanger, Innokin, Vaporesso, Wismec, Aspire, eLeaf, Joyetech, just to name a few have always come with the usb charging cables.

O.K., but like I said they don't come with a charger, you have to use your phone charger. Please read what I first posted. "Well most of the time you have to use your phone charger, most mods or external chargers don't come with one, but yeah use the cables the mod comes with." You're mistaking the cable for a charger.

Most phone chargers have a cable built in but most of mine are a separate Charging Brick or Wall Wart which are rated for Amperage. Like this one which I used for years.

I also have a wall wart from my e-Cigs Brand Cigalike which I use on ocassion but mostly just plug into a PC USB Port or my 4 Port up to 2 Amp USB Charging Adapter in my vehicle.
