This wasnt meant to be offensive?
This is in response to you and other posts ITT... first off..I didn't want this to be a pissing match and a place for name calling.ie "Troll...ect (Not that I care what I'm called anyway but name calling ITT is uncalled for and not warranted and I'm not going to stoop to that level)...This thread is about debating on many things with facts as stated in my first post and not just religion .
@Midniteoyl ...No it wasn't meant to be offensive in fact far from it ...Unless people wish it to be and took what I said personally and if that is the case they are self admitting to what I described as in thoughts and Not calling anyone Idiots, Dumb, Stupid...etc but if anyone thinks I have That's their problem not mine... But out right calling someone a name shows me the level I'm dealing with and They will get no response from me ..I was talking about that kinda thinking(illogical, unproven, irrational) and no individual(Big Difference!) And this is going to be my last post on that matter!...

I can't prove there isn't a god just like no one can prove there is one or many but again this thread is about Facts and proven ones at that...I do find it offensive what religion has done to mankind since day one...It's this state of mind that has held mankind back and All in the name of their god that can't be proven...This thread is about facts and not Fiction...Some classic examples past and present of Religions holding back mankind and being offensive to the Logical, Rational and Scientific thinker... First off...What Muslims do to there Women...Girls getting killed for going to school to learn, The women getting stoned for not wearing a berka and showing some skin...Ect...Doctors getting murdered in the name of God for performing abortions...Galileo convicted of heresy for saying the earth revolved around the sun and was under house arrest for the rest of his life making his last years hell and Holding back the truth and stopping mankind moving forward in knowledge ...The Knights Temple being executed on a Friday the 13th which created a superstition where that date and day or even just that number are supposed to be unlucky even to present day..People even have phobias about those (Paraskevidekatriaphobia and
Triskaidekaphobia) ... Pope Benedict telling people wearing a condom is worse then getting HIV "Wearing of condom to fight against HIV and Aids and could make the problem worse."(How many people died from this word of god?)...Embryo stem cell research stopped because the church and it's pull in Washington....The fear it puts in people especially kids about if you commit a "sin" you will go to hell... Oh and BTW "Rape" wasn't in the 10 commandments I guess thats why so many priests diddle kids but God forbid you you take his name in vain...That always makes me laugh Rape isn't in the top 10 but "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain"..."I guess it all depends in the tone of your voice when saying it"-Louis CK...and let's not forget 9/11...Done in the name god ( That one being Allah)...The list goes on but in all... Religion has done more harm than good to the advancement of mankind And this here what I just posted is just some of the religious mentality that's held mankind back for thousands of years....Now I know some of the rebuttals will be but Religion has done good like Charities...etc but they also rip a lot of people off asking for money for a pray or miracles (Yes I do watch these televangelist from time to time and I'm just gob smacked and feel Sincerely bad for the people who get suckered in and give sometimes all there money to keep them in there lavish lifestyle).. But I believe and know Mankind does do good things without it being in the name of god and still would if there wasn't Religion...One other thing to ponder...If you were to be born in another part of the world your religion you believe now could be a whole different one ..As the saying goes... "Location Location Location" But then again if you were born in Norway 1000 years ago you would have believed in Norse mythology and one of your gods you would have worshiped would have been Thor...So really it's Time and "Location Location Location"...Like the quote I first posted from Richard Dawkins “We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.”

I may also add...So many of these con artists all in the name of God preying (Bad pun) on mislead and desperate people Telling people to send in money for prays, miracles and savior ..I'm guessing they don't believe or forget or it's all down to interpretation:rolleyes: Matthew 21:12-13 Jesus and the money changers... Just SOME of these con artists(Benny Hinn not not included in this video but he was also exposed linked below) but as you know there are a hell of a lot out there scamming people out of money and even life savings or even stopping people going to A Doctor thinking they are healed in the name of god http://www.slate.com/articles/video...their_acts_and_taking_advantage_of_their.html
Benny Hinn exposed

To the contrary of popular believe of the religious .... Atheists know more about Religions as a whole then most religious folk ...Proven fact! and trust me I have read and researched over the years a lot on different religions and scriptures From the Bible (Old and New testament),Torah, Qur'an, The Tipitaka and the Dhammapada,.and even "The Book of the dead" Survey says....
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way...gnostics-know-more-about-bible-than-religious

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2010...eists-bible-preacher-god-islam-holy-american/

http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/09/28/survey-atheists-know-more-about-religion-than-believers/

http://www.pewforum.org/2010/09/28/u-s-religious-knowledge-survey/
Again...This thread was meant for people who have a similar outlook as the Title stated...I just find it funny how so many just jumped in here who don't have the same outlook...You won't find me Jumping in ANY religious threads or start shit who have religious believes in other threads...I have more respect then that !!!...I'm betting most people who just jumped in here didn't even take the time to watch them videos with facts and just started shooting mouths off and if you are one of them people... shame on you!...If you did watch them...Good for you! :)...Even the Atheist thread on ECF didn't see this much anger:(

For the record...I agree with some things in the above post...but I will add that nowhere had God or His Son required that there be proof....but faith. Socrates proved that all claims are subject to dialectical examination...and the only truth, is that which can withstand such. My faith can be refuted to some degree...but inasmuch as science and it's process is empirical, it still has yet to even begin to address awareness and the illogical emotions of fear and love. What do we do in such cases? Some turn to faith...some shrug it off as "it is what it is"....some think nothing on it whatsoever....but that does not prove, or even come close to proving they they do NOT exist. What I DO KNOW as fact, is that when you delve too deep in either, and as is witnessed here right now....those that would normally walk in friendship...are reduced to opponents in a battle which cannot be won through any other means than...............science?........faith? NO TO BOTH.......but what?
The answer is...the humbleness of our own human existence.

Your not defending my rights from a single person. Nor do you defend the ways of the people. Our constitution has been under fire here at home for the last 8 years, where were you on that?

Here is a list of the first 10 amendments to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights:

The First Amendment - states that Congress shall make no law preventing the establishment of religion or prohibiting its free exercise. Also protected are freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The Second Amendment - protects citizen's right to bear arms.

The Third Amendment - prevents the government from placing troops in private homes. This was a real problem during the American Revolutionary War.

The Fourth Amendment - this amendment prevents the government from unreasonable search and seizure of the property of US citizens. It requires the government to have a warrant that was issued by a judge and based on probable cause.

The Fifth Amendment - The Fifth Amendment is famous for people saying "I'll take the Fifth". This gives people the right to choose not to testify in court if they feel their own testimony will incriminate themselves.

In addition this amendment protects citizens from being subject to criminal prosecution and punishment without due process. It also prevents people from being tried for the same crime twice. The amendment also establishes the power of eminent domain, which means that private property can not be seized for public use without just compensation.

The Sixth Amendment - guarantees a speedy trial by a jury of one's peers. Also, people accused are to be informed of the crimes with which they are charged and have the right to confront the witnesses brought by the government. The amendment also provides the accused the right to compel testimony from witnesses, and to legal representation (meaning the government has to provide a lawyer).

The Seventh Amendment - provides that civil cases also be tried by jury.

The Eighth Amendment - prohibits excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishments.

The Ninth Amendment - states that the list of rights described in the Constitution is not exhaustive, and that the people still have all the rights that are not listed.

The Tenth Amendment - gives all powers not specifically given to the United States government in the Constitution, to either the states or to the people.

Ever since our entry in the Iraqi and Afghan war zones. These Rights have been broken, trampled and torn apart...Great job protecting them.
If you follow history, it began being trampled under Lincoln.

Why would I go to your Thread? I'm not religious... Anyone is welcome here as long it's a civilized debate...This thread wasn't meant to have a poke but it's a place where Atheists or Logical, Rational and Scientific thinking can take place..I personally don't think religion comes under those things and that's my Logical, Rational and Scientific thinking based on facts ...Again this thread isn't just about Religion but it is about and for some people who have the same outlook, views and thoughts Theories..etc...Like I said in my first post...It's not here to bash anyone and to show some respect but some people by the looks of it haven't taken it that way...I guess the bigger went over their heads and they only saw what they wanted to see and got offended by it and stooped down to name calling...I mean come on really?...Saying someone is a troll or asshole where the person being myself was just being thought provoking which is healthy and wanted a thread where anyone who is a Atheist can have acivilized, interesting, stimulating talk with facts and debates to take place...I'm going to post some Scientific stuff later that has nothing to do with religion

Why WOULDN'T you? I am not religious either! In my ministry, I do not sell the Church...nor will I ever. You will find more words of encouragement and love than anything else there...that is what it is for :). You would not be judged...nobody will criticise you....hell...nobody will even know you are there! I come here out of a desire to support and engage in friendly discussion. I have no fear of being noticed as the token forum preacher...and as you can see...nobody really gives a toss that I am. I should imagine that you would have no issue or fear of being judged by coming over to my place...unless of course there is something else that exists. Again, I do not preach to people...I offer up words of wisdom...mostly my own...and offer prayers to those that request them. I'm just offering up the invitation....you have nothing to lose whatsoever....and perhaps, might walk away with something useful :). Remember sir...I came here and have not judged...I am certain you can do the same.

If you follow history, it began being trampled under Lincoln.
But the current conflict started in 1989 under the Reagan admin. The failings of the CIA support in the Mujahideen and rebuild critical education and industry infrastructure after the Soviet collapse lead directly to the rise of the Taliban. ** started earlier as a covert arming and training of the Mujahideen, used 1989 as the open support post soviet collapse.

Add in the fumbling cluster fuck that was Bush Sr. post GW1 and leaving the Kurds high and dry.
Then destroying or relaxing of the regulations that kept on so much in check and balanced during the Clinton Admin.

you do realize this shit he rails about started long ago, one lame duck two term jack wad with a prior witless jack wad after a corrupt adulterer.

Just saying "I hate this thread" with no reason behind and me saying that doesn't make me judgmental when this thread is about logical, rational debate it's being a observant fact..If you don't like a place why would you go there let alone post in it?...I know if I didn't like a place I sure wouldn't go there or post in it...But hey that's just me

To tell you the truth the "Pray" in the title was a bit of a turn off plus I didn't want to start any trouble especially what happened in AU...so I didn't even look in it

When ever we say "hope" or "wish" we are praying...to WHOM...well who knows...but we are certainly not addressing a beaker or some Pythagorean formulae. And there is a lot to say about self control...agreed?

It is highly possible that you may have made more out of it than necessary. You said something...a rebuttal was made....end of story, or at least it COULD have been the end of the story. The hypocrisy is that in THIS thread....some things are said by others....rebuttals were made by you....and in one case, it was suggested that one leave because their response was not favoured.....that seems to smack of censorship in some passive aggressive way would you not think? Now, before you answer, consider this. Nobody has/had the power to prevent you from saying whatever you please, for as long as you please...the same circumstance exists here correct? Now Censorship in it's historical context, was exemplified by the outright banning of word and thought, as well as action (Pol Pot). Is there not a difference? Would it not be...in your words....LOGICAL to believe that if one is not expressly PREVENTED from thinking/acting/writing/speaking a thought...that censorship does not in fact exist? Bear in mind that I just answered the question for you.

Wow what are the odds:rolleyes:.."hope" or "wish" This is the Video I was thinking about when I said my next thing was going to be Scientific...See I see "Hope and Wish" as Probability and Chance...If you pray for something and it happens the Probability and chance was in your favor just like in gambling or making a dissension if not calculated

Wow... do you have a memory problem?...I said some time back that I was going to post some scientific stuff...This video was that.. it just so happened that it went with what you said with Pray and I made connection ...what was the odds of that?... It' was a Probability and Chance thing... either it's going to happen or not (mathematical odds)..I was going to post that anyway...Well I hope all your prays (Probability and Chance) go your way

How the hell did I miss this one..I fully agree that the constitution has been under fire for many years now... Anyway a great man once said... "Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.' - Benjamin Franklin

First you say: "Something can not be created from nothing."
Then you say: "God said he always was and always will be."
If god is a thing, then he had to be created. Otherwise, he is not a thing and does not exist

If god said: "no man will ever know how he will became" then it means there was something before him, something that created him. After all, you said "it would take something to make something"

"it would have to take something that has always existed to create all"
So that thing that was in existence created the god that you believe created all? That's like a snake eating it's own tail forever, or an infinate loop in programming. Or, saying the first chicken hatched out of the first egg that was lain by the first chicken. Going back in time and screwing your grandmother so you are your own grandfather.

You pretty much just typed a whole lot of hypocritical stuff that completely counteracts all the stuff you say is true. If god came to be, then he is a thing that was created. That means he is not the highest power because something had to create him.

The only true fact is that humans will never know what created the universe as it can not be proven.
"God said". To whom ? We cannot know what god said to someone else because he didn't say it to us. God has never "said" anything to me and the bible was obviously written by a human. So nothing can be proven. So why argue?

This.

That's the problem with any discussion about religion: if you're talking with believers, you're trying to reason with people who ultimately choose to eschew reason in favor of faith. What could you ever say that would sway them? And if you're talking with atheists, they already agree with you, so it's pointless.

That's why I refuse to talk religion with anybody. There is nothing to be gained from religious debates.

This thread isn't just about religion...I added the atheism well because there are not to many of us around and I thought it would be nice to meet others with the same view as well...You can talk about pretty much anything you like or post something you find interesting that you would like to share :)

I embrace reason to the degree that reason can be applied. As for swaying the religious...I was not aware that atheists were recruiting lol. I personally can not be bothered with religious debate either...as I am not fond of religion.

Well, the only thing atheists have in common is a lack of a belief in a god or gods. There tends to be an inclination towards science, reason and logic, but I wouldn't say that makes our views much the same. Unless we're arguing against something a Christian brought up.

Personally, I don't see the need to determine who is right or wrong...that amounts to nothing of any real use. For me, the greater goal is to be happy and at peace with yourself...valuing justice above all things.

I find basing one's identity in a dogmatic manner on a lack of belief mystifying. That would be akin to the fact that I do not believe in flying pink hamster's as a basis for self identity.

I don't define myself as just an atheist. That just happens to be one particular qualifier. And I already mentioned leaning towards science, rational thought and logic. Funny you put "dogmatic manner" out there. That seems to me a bit of a projection.

It was meant to be for most religious. Since I operate under no religious authority (by choice), I am exempt from dogmatic constraints. When asked what I am....I can be cheeky and just say "Human"...or I can describe what I do. That is probably one of the more fascinating of human studies....how we self identify.

The same could be said for the other side then

Well, there is always the question of how much people actually believe in a personal god composed from their own particular biases. Not many people could embrace the bible in its entirety. There seems to be a lot of subconscious picking and choosing going on.

I embrace reason to the degree that reason can be applied. As for swaying the religious...I was not aware that atheists were recruiting lol. I personally can not be bothered with religious debate either...as I am not fond of religion.
Yes we are recruiting:rolleyes:...Now stare into the center and listen to me

Especially in the case of Leviticus.

Personally, I don't see the need to determine who is right or wrong

Letting people believe what they want is fine and dandy as long as everybody else is free from the consequences of their beliefs. When the irrational invades the public space (think sharia law countries where people get killed for blaspheming, or the US where certain adults want kids to learn creationism at school), that's when the need arises to determine who's right and wrong.

Who will bear that authority?
