Fitness Delays Male Cholesterol Problems

Becoming more fit could help men stave off the upward creep of cholesterol levels associated with growing older, a recent study finds.

Researchers from the Cooper Clinic in Dallas conducted the long-term study, which included just over 11,400 men, aged 20 to 90. Each took an exercise test on a treadmill to determine their baseline aerobic fitness level.

Researchers measured total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides (another type of blood fat), HDL cholesterol, and non-HDL cholesterol (the total cholesterol level minus the good HDL cholesterol) in study participants.

Men with lower-than-optimal aerobic fitness had a greater risk of developing high cholesterol in their early 30s, while men with higher levels of fitness did not see high cholesterol develop until their mid-40s, the study found.

Men with poor aerobic fitness reached abnormal HDL and non-HDL cholesterol levels around their early 20s and mid-30s, respectively, while those with better fitness experienced normal levels for the entire duration of the study.

The men who were considered highly fit were not marathon runners but met the government’s current guidelines, which call for 150 minutes a week of moderate activity or 75 minutes a week of vigorous activity, the researchers noted.

While this study only involved men, there was no reason to think that the results would not be replicated in women, the researchers said.

I thought I mentioned this but wasn't sure.
Watched a video conference from New Zealand from a few days ago.
Their PM said "now when visiting a friends house you are now allowed to use their toilet, Luxury!"
I thought it was a fake. So searched, but no, you previously when visiting had to stay outside and hold your pee or other till you got home. Im guessing if it was urgent just do it in their garden!
I thought here in OZ was nuts!
According to her, now being able to go to the toilet in your friends home, her words, is "Luxury"!

A Gas That Helps Prevent Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Neurological Disorders​

In the previous newsletter, I mentioned some of the functions of one of your body's main signaling molecule, a gas called nitric oxide, and that people who have good nitric oxide function don't have problems with the "Scary Germ".

But if you don't have good nitric oxide function, you can boost it dramatically with supplements and even use it to reduce illness.

According to Nathan Brian, PhD, if you start increasing nitric oxide early on during illness with the Scary Germ you prevent viral replication, the cytokine storm, inflammation, and loss of blood oxygen.

You may be familiar with the "nitric oxide dump" exercise that has been popularized by Dr. Zach Bush to increase nitric oxide in the body.

But according to Dr. Brian, this doesn't work very well with people that have impaired nitric oxide production due to variations in the MTHFR gene or just old age.

I have been doing the exercise for a couple of years, but when I started taking a product called Cardio Miracle I noticed a major difference.

In fact, I found that I could do long sets of the "nitric oxide dump" exercise much longer and easier with less exertion. This effect was immediate.

Aside from MTHFR gene variations, nitric oxide production decreases in all of us as we age, and this increases the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular and neurological disorders as we age.

Low nitric oxide levels contributes to diabetes, and diabetes leads to reduced nitric oxide, so it can become a vicious cycle.

Diabetic people die mainly of vacular complications of the disease, which is due at least in part to impaired nitric oxide function.

Atherosclerosis ("hardening of the arteries") is based on inflammation of the endothelelium that then causes immune cells to stick.

But supporting nitric oxide production can regress atherosclerosis 10-15% in 6 months, according to Dr. Brian.

This is the basis for Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's advice (in his Eat4Earth interview) to chew kale (cooked or raw) with a dash of balsamic vinegar.

This releases nitrate from the kale in the mouth that then gets turned into nitrite by "denitrifying" bacteria in the mouth and then to nitric oxide that can pass through the mucosa into the circulation.

According to Dr. Brian, if you eat green leafy vegetables and chew them and leave them in the mouth for a while, you can increase the population of these denitrifying bacteria that are integral to your body's nitric oxide production.

And this can possibly help with crowding out the pathogenic bacteria that are involved with gingivitis.

As I mentioned, people with variants of the MTHFR gene tend to be deficient in nitric oxide, and this is something we'll get into further in the upcoming Bio-Individual Blueprint program since so many people have this issue.

'Long COVID' symptoms similar to chronic fatigue syndrome, study finds

People with "long-haul" COVID-19 have symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and other breathing problems months after first testing positive for the virus, a study published Monday by the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found.

Nearly half the participants in the small study met the criteria for chronic fatigue syndrome, or myalgic encephalomyelitis, the data showed.

In addition, nearly all of the participants, or 88%, exhibited abnormal breathing patterns referred to as dysfunctional breathing, while 58% had evidence of circulatory impairment during peak exercise performance, the researchers said.

"These findings suggest that in a subgroup of long haulers, hyperventilation and dysfunctional breathing may underlie their symptoms," study co-author Donna M. Mancini said in a press release.

"This is important as these abnormalities may be addressed with breathing exercises or retraining," said Mancini, a professor of cardiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a medical condition that can often occur following a viral infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It can cause fever and muscle aches as well as prolonged tiredness and depression, the agency says.

Many people with COVID-19, even those who experience mild illness, have reported persistent symptoms after they recover from their initial infection, research suggests.

Those affected are commonly referred to as COVID-19 "long-haulers," and their symptoms include severe fatigue, cognitive difficulty, unrefreshing sleep and muscle aches and pains, previous studies have found.


For this study, the researchers assessed 41 patients -- 23 women and 18 men -- ages 23 to 69 who'd previously been diagnosed with acute COVID-19 infection between three and 15 months before evaluation.

Participants were referred to the study from pulmonologists or cardiologists and all had normal pulmonary function tests, chest X-rays, chest CT scans and echocardiograms before infection with the virus.

All participants underwent a standard cardiopulmonary exercise test, which evaluates heart and lung function based on physical activity, and continued to experience unexplained shortness of breath.

For this test, they were seated on a stationary bicycle and used a disposable mouthpiece for measurement of expired gases and other breathing measurements, including peak oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide production and breathing rate and volume, the researchers said.

They were also connected to an electrocardiogram machine, pulse oximeter and blood pressure cuff to measure heart rate, pulse and blood pressure, respectively.

After a brief rest period, participants began exercises which increased in difficulty every three minutes, the researchers said.

Most of the participants had evidence of abnormal breathing patterns referred to as dysfunctional breathing, which is most commonly observed in asthmatic patients and is defined as rapid, shallow breathing.

In addition, they had low carbon dioxide values at rest and with exercise, suggesting chronic hyperventilation.

The circulatory impairment observed in many participants may be an indication of heart muscle dysfunction, according to the researchers.

"Recovery from acute COVID-19 infection can be associated with residual organ damage," Mancini said.

"Many of these patients reported shortness of breath, and the... results demonstrate several abnormalities, including reduced exercise capacity, excessive ventilatory response and abnormal breathing patterns which would impact their normal daily life activities," she said.

Magnesium Helps Relieve Pain

Clinical experience, as well as research in nerve pain conditions such as those associated with pancreatic cancer, has shown that magnesium can be an effective treatment for pain. Although it is clear why magnesium can decrease muscle pain (it makes muscles relax), why it would help nerve pain was less clear.
A study on rats to be printed in The Journal of Physiology confirms our clinical experience that magnesium decreases nerve pain — while also pointing to how it works.

A major mechanism of pain is the excessive stimulation of a brain chemical called "NMDA." The few medications that help decrease and balance this pain-carrying neurotransmitter have the downside of causing significant side effects. Magnesium seems to settle down NMDA without the toxicity.
For an especially powerful effect, the magnesium can be used intravenously, and is an important tool used by most holistic physicians.
IV magnesium is the single most effective treatment to eliminate an acute migraine headache, and has even been shown to ease the incredibly severe nerve pain that can sometimes be seen in pancreatic cancer.
It is also very helpful for settling down fibromyalgia pain, which has a muscle and nerve component.

You're not the same after experiencing traumatic events. Your behaviors and thinking patterns may change and you may find yourself grieving who you used to be.

Acknowledging you are now different will help you recover and heal. Give yourself time to adjust your routine and re-establish a sense of normalcy.

Be gentle with yourself as you learn to cope and embrace who you are now. Don't worry too much about what will happen next.
