I think she comes outta the woods a block away I'd see an entrance hole in my yard if there was one.
Yes I have been thinkin about containers but like plantin in the yard.

Yes but you mentioned how cages don't help when they can just dig under. That was what got me started thinking about the solution, and the physical danger of digger tunnels in your garden.

Hi Jimi,

There’s something pretty powerful about stepping outside, harvesting something you grew yourself, and bringing it straight into the kitchen.
It’s one of the reasons we believe so strongly in helping people grow their own food.
But what we grow is only part of the story. How we use that food to nourish ourselves and the people we love matters, too.

That’s why we wanted to share a new FREE 9-part documentary series called Healing Kitchen: Let Food Be Thy Medicine.

>> Watch the Healing Kitchen trailer + get free access

What caught our attention about this series is how closely it connects with so much of what we talk about here at Grow Your Own Vegetables — nutrient-dense food, eating seasonally, healthy soil, reconnecting with nature, and making the most of the foods and herbs we grow.

Healing Kitchen Banner
Throughout the 9 episodes, you’ll explore topics including:
🖤The importance of nutrient-dense foods, seasonal eating and reconnecting with where our food comes from
🍅Gut health and ways to nourish the trillions of beneficial microbes living inside us
🖤Foods, herbs and recipes for supporting immune, brain and cardiovascular health
🌿Plant-based ingredients and traditional kitchen remedies
🖤Food and herbs for sleep, energy, skin, hair and healthy aging
🫜The connection between healthy soil, pesticide-free food and our own well-being

You’ll also meet farm-to-table chefs, herbalists, wild food foragers, small farmers, natural health practitioners and holistic nutritionists who share recipes, traditions and their perspectives on food and wellness.

>> Get FREE access to Healing Kitchen

For those of us who already love growing fresh food, I think this could be a fascinating next step in the journey — exploring even more of what those plants can offer once they reach our kitchens.

We hope you enjoy it!

That makes me so sad when I think of how you love the animals in your kingdom, and always try to find a way to accommodate them peacefully.

Yes but no way to control what they do. The kid who always goes in our garden now started kickin his Soccer ball against my neighbors house and my others neighbors newly plank sided garage when they aren't home and he doesn't have someone to play with. I am glad I am home a lot

When used for pets, I do not believe in those shock barrier fences, and have always thought they were barbaric. This is the first time I've thought it might be good for a destructive brat to get a little tingle when he goes to fetch his ball.

Hi Jimi,

If you’re growing food in containers( or thinking about adding a few more for late summer or fall) there’s something that’s easy to overlook:

What your container is actually made of.

Not every pot, bucket, or repurposed container is a good choice for growing food.

Some materials can potentially leach unwanted substances into your soil, which means choosing the right container matters for more than just how well your plants grow.

That’s why we put together this quick, easy guide to help you know what to look for.

Inside, you’ll discover:

🌱 Which materials are truly food-safe (and which to avoid)
🪴 How to choose the right container for what you want to grow
💡 Simple ways to find containers for free or low cost

Container Growing Safety Guide

Whether you’re refreshing containers, planting something new, or planning ahead for next season, it’s worth knowing what’s safe to grow your food in.

To growing with confidence,

🌱 Grow Your Own Vegetables Team 🌱

P.S. The container itself matters. This simple guide will help you know what to look for before you plant.

🍓 Want Bigger, Earlier Strawberries?

What if you could harvest strawberries earlier in the season and enjoy bigger, more productive harvests from the same growing space?

Our friend Michael Kilpatrick joined us to share a different approach to growing strawberries: treating them as an annual crop, planting in the fall, choosing the right varieties, and giving plants the winter months to establish before spring production begins.
Strawberry Harvest

We've turned the highlights from Michael's training into a new article so you can dig into the strategy and decide whether it might work in your own garden.

📌 Garden Tip: Before You Pull That Plant...

As summer crops begin winding down, don't be too quick to clear everything out. Healthy flowering plants can still provide food for pollinators, some crops may have another flush of production left, and you may want to let a favorite variety mature if you're planning to save seed.

🥗 What If Your Kitchen Could Be Part of Your Wellness Garden?

We spend so much time thinking about how to grow nourishing food. But what happens once that food makes its way into the kitchen?

Our friends at The Sacred Science are hosting Healing Kitchen, a free 9-part documentary series exploring medicinal foods, herbs, and plant-based recipes from chefs, herbalists, nutritionists, farmers, and natural health experts.

You'll explore everything from eating seasonally and supporting gut and immune health to foods for energy, heart health, brain health, and more.

The free worldwide screening begins September 1, so now is a great time to save your spot.
