Hey guys, I'm semi new to vaping only several months or so and my friend was offering his mech mod to me so I got that from him. I'm having some issues with it though. First off it is a Rig mech mod with an authentic Troll rda by wotofo. With it he gave me 20awg wire, some cotton, and three batteries. Now I'm not sure the brand of the batteries but they are 2400mah 3.7 volt 18650s and my issue is that I have a hot button and now none to little vapor production. At first it was great besides the hot button, which I tried cleaning and removing and doing all kinds of things but can't fix that. Batteries don't get hot. Then only half of the time it would correctly fire when I pressed in the button, so I decided I should change the coils since they were very gunked up from my friend. So I made some vertical coils that have about 10-12 wraps with the 20awg wire and it's a 2mm wrap. Now I'm either getting no vapor(most of the time) like it's not firing, or extremely little and not dense vapor. I'm very frustrated currently and just want to vape. I'm thinking about buying some authentic VTC 3 or 4s so I know I have good batteries but could anything else be an issue? Sometimes the button gets hot enough to potentially cause burns... What is the resistance of that 20g build? Have you checked it on an ohmmeter? Also what is the amp limit on your batteries? A hot button is an indication sometimes your build is exceeding the amp limit of the battery and if not checked could go kaboom! Very important to understand ohms law and how it pertains to battery safety...just sayin

Sorry forgot to mention. I used steam-powered.org to try and estimate ohms because I don't have an ohm meter right now. I understand that's important and am working on obtaining it. Will probably have one tomorrow. That is also why I am planning on purchasing some Sony vtc 3 or 4s bc I don't know the c rating or the amp limit of the batteries. Is this the only probable cause to my issue? Will local shops let me try an ohm meter first bc I checked around and no one sells them/has the in stock so I'm either going to order one from Walmart and pick it up from there or find one on eBay or whatever. Hopefully this will fix my issue..

20g is a thick heavy wire, so much so I've never used it before.. I like 24g and sometimes 26g for most of my cloud-blowin builds..alot of folks use steam engine (online) for their builds also..

Yea I thought that 20awg was pretty thick, I will see if I can get some thinner wire then! It was fairly hard for me to try and build a small enough coil setup that would fit into my rda and still have a high enough resistance for my supposed amps of my battery that I was guessing were around 15-20... Glad I'm buying all this stuff so I know exactly what's going on. Do you have any other recommendations besides kanthol or should I stick with kanthol? It seems like all the local shops in my area are just out for money and none of the employees seem to know much, I asked one guy if the tank had a 510 connection and he asked me what that was :/... It's good to see there's a nice community online for all of this! I will update you within the next couple days and see if everything is going good with my mech! Thanks a ton.

If I ordered this does it look quality? It was 7.59$ on eBay so I'm thinking of just doing that. I already ordered the batteries. Got Sony VTC4s that are 30A max continuous discharge. Hope they serve me well! Should I wait to buy thinner kanthol until I get the ohm meter and test my current coil setup? Or should I go ahead and order some?

I would order everything you need now like 24 or 26g kanthel...
BTW, the lower the gauge, the thicker the wire.. and of course the higher the gauge the thinner the wire. It's easy to remember actually, especially when you get a little experience under your belt.

Changing to different batteries isn't going to help your hot button problem. (assuming you already have quality batteries that are fully charged)
According to steam engine, you've built dual coils at approximately .15ohms, which might be too low for that mod, also assuming everything including the threads & contacts are spotless clean on both fire button and cap, and that your contact pin on the atty is screwed in all the way and snug. Also make sure the contact on the cap of the mod is making good contact with the atty and properly adjusted to the battery.
Try building some new coils to .25ohms to see if that stops the hot button. (20g wire, 3mm diameter, 12 wraps)
Also, nichrome 80 wire will allow you more wraps than kanthal, with the same resistance

What's wrong with a single 18650? Most tube mods don't stack, some do but not very many.
if you want real flavor go sub ohm, I started on a single ipv 30 watt mini ,until I graduated to a 50 watt eleaf I stick ,then to building my own both regulated and unregulated at 20 amps 187 watts of happiness , trust me its like night and day, I mostly use my aspire v2 with a 100 watt coil and mmmmm its a flavor beast, I now make my own juice after the gouging of 20 bucks a bottle, I love my cereal vapes, bombies nanna cream , save yourself from the peoples kids your sending to college and paying there mortgage, it cost pennies.
