This is one that makes me cry every time I listen. Jim Cullum was a clarinet player and band leader who was one of the hardest working artists in San Antonio's diverse music history. He played every weekend on the San Antonio River, and eventually opened his own nightclub, The Landing. He died in 1973.

At some point his son Jim Cullum Jr. cornetist, took over as band leader. It was still the Jim Cullum Jazz Band, and Jim Jr. carried on with big round talent and love for the audience, working every weekend and holiday with his band, until his own death in 2019. All my life when family friends and relatives came in from out of town, we'd all go down to the river walk for Mexican food and entertainment, so I have great memories of Jim's distinctive cornet playing and the warmth of his personality.

Jim's memorial service filled an auditorium, the Tobin Center here in SA. His band survives him now as the Dirty River Jazz Band. This is just a snippet of a live performance with them in the very last year of his life, which they included on their first CD without Jim, because they believed it reflected his work ethic that endured to the end, and because it has an important message for the whole world, "have fun and love each other", and ends with his distinctive cornet sound we will never forget.

Spill The Wine- Eric Burdon
A little behind... anyway, that song is so special to me and my wife. Just like the song, we had a very special night and yes... I spilled wine (and took that girl)
Our county fair (even though the city has grown very big) still has free shows but we don't really get great bands. I do remember Charlie Daniels band and he played an electric fiddle (that was amazing) So...
One day I was so happy to know that WAR (Eric Burdon) was playing. Our friends that came with us were also big fans (they are hispanic) The show was great! When they played that song, I got so excited and started pounding on the "bleacher" style benches. A few other people joined in. Eric seemed quite impressed. At the end of the show, everyone wanted an encore... Eric was exhausted but said "I'm 56 and still doing this... gave it my all but can't do any more" Good memory.
