That, with some of your other posts in this thread, is showing a wide range of tastes in music, SirKadly.
Well, Björn Ulvaeus & Benny Andersson, who originally came up with the concept for the Musical Chess, are from ABBA, so it still sort of fits the rock/pop category I suppose.

I've loved the original concept album for Chess since I first heard it in the 80s, but never saw it on stage and probably wouldn't even if it made a comeback. The storyline changed some between the concept and the first London production, and then was changed even more significantly for the American version, and I think the plot line made much more sense on the concept album.

Trivia-Act 2 opens in Thailand where the Chess Championship is about to get underway. The song that opens the act is sung by the American, who is there plotting against the Russian who took his title (along with his woman) prior to defecting to the West in the first act.

The song that opens Act 2 made it's way to #3 on the US Pop Charts in 1985 I believe. Any guesses what that song was?

Trombone Butter....by Dinah Washington
Count Basie recorded a version of this song with Teresa Brewer singing. Much different take but look up Trombone Cholly if interested. And now I'm in the mood for some jazz, sooo...

You're alone and you'll always be alone
-Pierre Lapointe

A sad beautiful song.

You are alone and will remain alone
If you decide to walk or to run
Or lie down to sleep
Whether you decide to shout or sing
You are alone and will remain alone

But while waiting for your demise
You must live and cherish your happiness
In the meantime you must learn
Learn to think and to love without counting
Think
Love
Think
Love

You are alone and will remain alone
Whether you toughen up or bend in compliance
In sadness or in joy
You are alone and will remain alone

My caresses that you love
Sense them with your eyes, with your fingers
And your heart full of hope
Pray, share, cry and dream
Life will impose its surprises on you

I'm just getting out of bed
My eyes rest on your naked body
I want to breathe you in
My eyes are sad
Because I know that never
will you ever love me
I love you
