Way Down in the Hole - The Blind Boys Of Alabama

This band has a rather unique history, having been in existence for 85 years now, though obviously with various roster changes. Most of the members through their history have been blind or vision impaired, with a couple exceptions.
The Blind Boys of Alabama first sang together in 1939 as part of the school chorus at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Deaf and Blind in Talladega, Alabama.

From Wikipedia:
The earliest version of the group was known as The Happy Land Jubilee Singers and their first performances were for World War II soldiers at nearby encampments, where the boys sung for pocket change. The group's first professional performance was on June 10, 1944, during a broadcast from radio station WSGN (currently WAGG) in Birmingham, Alabama. The following year, the members dropped out of school and began touring the gospel circuit. In 1947, lead vocalist Traylor died in a gun accident.

In 1948, a Newark, New Jersey promoter booked the Happy Land Jubilee Singers along with a gospel act from Mississippi known as the Jackson Harmoneers, whose members were also visually impaired, and advertised the program as the "Battle of the Blind Boys." The two acts soon changed their names to the Five Blind Boys of Alabama and the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi and often toured together.

Actual news headline from Des Moines, Iowa a few weeks ago, only thing that would have made it better is if they used the word "the" instead of "a"

I've always liked them, but didn't know of the history of the group. Thanks for that.

Today's good thing. Since @Bliss Doubt mentioned the book the other day, I watched the trailer for the movie version of The Secret Life of Bees (Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, Dakota Fanning), which made me decide it might be a book worth reading. So I bought it. Might watch the movie too.

Interesting. I don't think I've seen the movie, but a thing I remember distinctly in the book, is when Lily knocks on the door of the honey farm and is let in, one of the sisters says "look who's here, and she's the image of her mama". The sisters have known Lily would turn up there eventually.

I'll post more later about the book and the author, Sue Monk Kidd, on your bookworm thread.

And I think I'll look for the movie and see if I can get it free on Prime. It isn't on TubiTV yet, and you have to pay for it on YouTube.

Good afternoon Family
Had to go get a knee brace so I can till soon as it's dry enough, also had to get a glucose meter for Jean. Her glucose has always been around 85 but since the operation it's been 153 and she has severe back pain and now left shoulder pain  so they said to get a meter and keep an eye on it. I did some research and and the three main things for pancreatitis were, sure enough, the symptoms she has and where is the pancreasee located, right along the small intestine right where they cut her:mad: so tryin to figure the meter out too.
I hope the day is treatin everyone well:)
