I have the 1980's memories of Challenger, so was holding my breath during the separation. I'm sure a bunch of us were feeling that, somewhat. Years later, I was in FL on my honeymoon (
t9403.gif
) and I can't remember which it was, but we pulled over on the side of a highway and saw some of it. We weren't close enough for a wonderful view, or anything, but it was still pretty cool to see it.

I was at work at ITT in Raleigh, and one of my coworkers had brought a tiny black & white TV in for us to watch the Challenger launch. We were all standing there watching when it blew. At the time it felt just about like the 911 attack - we couldn't believe our eyes.

We don't need any more of those moments when everyone remembers exactly where they were and what they were doing. I was going to say there have been three in my life, but actually there have been more than that. JFK, the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, the moon landing, Nixon's resignation speech, John Lennon, the Challenger, Dale Earnhardt, and 9/11. Only ONE of that group was not a heartbreaking experience. Obviously that list could be expanded a lot, too.

What a handsome chicken family. The black rooster in the back is lovable. (That is a rooster with the red thing? Lol)

We are highly suspicious it's a rooster - his balls haven't dropped yet, lol. The two reddish ones in the foreground are confirmed and gotta go

I was watching Challenger on TV, too, but I was at home, not sure why I wasn't at school, could've been an off day. I only vaguely remember bits and pieces about Nixon, was only a year old during the moon landing, saw a breaking news report about John Lennon. 9/11... like it was yesterday. Heartbreaking.

On another note, and this one has me on edge right now, but there have been protests downtown in my city over the last couple nights over an EMT that was killed when police raided her apartment, apparently on a drug raid involving her boyfriend. Another protest in another area, not far from downtown. The downtown protests have not been peaceful, leading to looting, cars being trashed, an attempt at rolling a police vehicle (large one) onto it's side, a news van being trampled on... the one that was further away was actually a peaceful protest. Watching it on TV, you know there are people there that have no idea why they are, they just want to be involved in the destruction of it all. It's incredibly unsettling.

Boyfriend saw on his FB feed, and the Next Door app, or whatever it's called, that there are rumors of another tonight in an area the same name as my neighborhood. Someone else said there's a city in Atlanta of the same name. Would prefer to not see either happen, but needless to say, it's got me a bit edgy. Was also told we're under curfew tonight.

My ass is staying home.

Oh crap. Yes, I hope you can stay put. There's crazy stuff going on in several different places.

Minneapolis is a mess, from what I saw yesterday. People everywhere are SO on edge.

Will be thinking about you.

When 911 happened I was up that night getting my fishing gear ready for an early morning fish. Misses was asleep so I had the tv on with no sound. I honestly thought as I glanced now and then at it that it was a movie. Was not until the next day I realised it had been real. It was a numbing moment.

Saturday check in. They have been protesting across the river all week, killed one or two there. I try not to go over there unless I just have to, we have more murders than Chicago:eek:.
All's well here though, spent the day in the sun/garden mostly. So much unrest in the country right now:(.
Everyone stay safe and healthy.;):)

Got rumbled outa bed with a big boom and flashes at 3am-ish.
Milly is freakin' out too. I keep forgetting how young she is...nothing storm-related bothered Tiki much except high winds.

Cuz this:

WMRIjuJ.jpg

Flooding warnings, etc. I'm fine though and at altitude compared to the city.

But probably good as they are suiting up for docking soon with the ISS. I made soup. =)

Good Morning Humans!!

Snap1177.jpg

A lovely view from the ISS, meanwhile the Dragon is about 6mi away from the ISS at this time. Expected docking time is around 0730 PDT, FWIW.

Steady rain here, the thunder/lightning have abated though which is nice. However, there looks to be a last gasp of heavy stuff around 7am before it clears out for the day.

About 3,000 Avista customers are out of power, fortunately not this complex.

America's in distress.
Cities are burning.
People are looting.
Our leaders are faltering.
ALL LIVES MATTER. GEORGE'S LIFE MATTERED.
My heart breaks when I turn the news on.
Last night I watched live riot coverage on the news in L.A., Washington D.C., Minneapolis, Atlanta and Florida.

These are not protests. They are riots. Burning, destruction.

This shit makes me want to cry.

Not being political. Im checking in. Im sad to see this in our home lands and cities.

My wife, myself and our two dogs are healthy. We are working. We are getting our bills caught back up, almost.

Did a bunch of work around the house yesterday. Trimmed trees, power washed 2 years of filth off our 22'x20' back deck. Going to stain it next weekend. Going to mow today.

I hope that all of our members and friends here that live in the cities affected by the social unease are safe and healthy.

I found out the hard way, @misswish, that the secret to coffee flavors, at least for me, is to not overdo the coffee. I have to use it very sparingly or it will take over a mix completely and be very bitter. Have to say though that I'm not a strong coffee fan. Can't drink Starbucks or similar coffees.

Have a house full of grandsons today. They are staying with us for a couple of days. It's nice having them here, they've livened the place up a bit. Everything A-OK so far.

I was never interested in coffee vapes, I sip coffee all day. I was re-organizing my flavorings and spotted the tiramisu. Figured I might as well give it a try. I'm glad I did! I'm not into strong coffee, either, Folgers is fine.

Glad you are enjoying those boys!

Morning!

Looks like another repeat day, lol. At least we had the extra comics in the paper. Quiet and peaceful here, small breeze feels good. Hubby will fix tacos for lunch, always tasty.

Watching the news is depressing. Corona was bad enough, now the violence and rioting. National Guard being called out in cities. I think I'll go read a romance or something.

Stay safe and healthy

Checking in, all still ok here. Haven't watched news lately, but it sounds like I should. I did see a terrible video from Minneapolis the other night on YT. Now with what @Huckleberried and @ChainVapeS are saying, sounds like that unrest is spreading everywhere.

We have quiet for a few hours while our son has his boys, but he'll be bringing them back in a little while. He's going to be moving in a couple of weeks, so decided to go ahead and get much of the work done ahead of time. He's more productive if he can work on his own, so boys can hang with us. We've enjoyed having them, but they do get bored here after a while. They'll have lunch and do some shopping and we'll have a good nap and/or watch the news!

Hope you are all staying safe and keeping yourselves well occupied.

Took my wife into the east side of Lansing today around 3:30pm to get a covid test that's required before a medical procedure she has coming up. It's a drive thru testing site at an old Sears tire shop. While there, a crowd of protesters, about 1500 people or more, came down Michigan Ave headed into East Lansing, the MSU campus.

Never seen anything like that in my life. Kinda eerie.

They made it to the East Lansing city hall and police station, smashed up a police cruiser. Then went back down Michigan to the Capitol building in Lansing. Burned a car to the ground in the middle of the street. They are still there. Getting larger in numbers. It's only 7:30pm.

This is going to be an ugly night for downtown Lansing.

Please don't destroy and burn my city!

I support peaceful protest. But this shit ain't peaceful anymore. When you start smashing and burning cars and businesses, you crossed into a different realm, no longer protesting. I don't support that. Leave the store fronts and businesses out of it. Leave the innocent bystanders cars out of it.

Just scary. Glad you are okay. They want me to do the same thing in order to have a procedure done. I'm not going anywhere. The procedure can wait. Not to mention it's stupid. Get tested a week before?? Who's to say I don't catch covid within that week? Seriously stupid logic here. Stay safe everyone.

Her test was today. Procedure on Wednesday. Takes 2 days to process the test. I agree, strange logic.

The protest in Lansing is getting worse. They are now attacking news and media personnel that are on the streets documenting. Im glad I don't live in the city. Im just outside of the city. But it's still my city. And it's in trouble tonight.

First day of winter here and its cold and raining. But we are doing well.

I see the news and all the rioting and crime there. Terrible how people can do that to others at any time let alone now. Stay safe all of you.

Chase bank downtown Lansing has been smashed in, broke into, looted. Police are out launching tear gas currently. There are several groups protesting in different areas of downtown Lansing.

National gaurd is on standby.

Media personnel are being targeted and harassed.

Never thought I'd see anything like this in my city.

Good evening VU!

City wide curfew in affect!

Yay for angry people :sarcasm:

Wife is on the way home from Los Angeles, she texted me a lot of pictures of spray painted communities, damage and just a ton of civil unrest.

San Diego isn’t much better...

I cleaned my guns.

Be safe everyone !

Oh yeah, we’re all good

Edit: just to clarify, since it could be misinterpreted...cleaned them not to protest, but protect.

Checking in. I don't know what it's like in the local world, aside from all the sirens I've heard today and we're still under curfew. I saw national news earlier, then mentally shut it down and made up a bunch of juice, sat outside while he grilled brats, then we ate. Been chatting with some pals here, too. My brain is burnt. I think we all have burned brains right now.

Thank you COVID-19 and Murder Hornets for helping our bodies feel numbed prior to these riots. From the deepest areas of my heart, fuck you all. None of us deserve the hell you've put us through over the last few months. Not even the Deplorables... never mind.

People of VU, please stay safe. I love most of you. Chainvapes, I hope your wife does well with her procedure.

We did manage to get a crew of men up to the ISS on an American rocket for the first time since 2011 though. Not damn bad.

I can't wait until commercial space flight is a norm and I can leave.

Monday, and the start of another of the endless SSDD.

My wife and I went on another winery lunch date Saturday. It was so nice to get out of the house and see people without masks and gloves and having a good time. Yes, the tables were kept at a distance.

Me, my wife, and the critters are all fine.

Good morning!

All is well here, being lazy and enjoying the fresh air. Nothing new but that's ok. Guess I should get busy on the housework, but it will still be here later. Jessie is patrolling for bugs, she is very vigilante. She thought Hubby should get up at 4 this morning, he disagreed.

Be safe and stay healthy

Monday check. 4 days weekends are nice, but they make me not want to go back. Was a pretty nice weekend, considering all the craziness going on. Weather was fantastic, at least. Was nice hanging out with you guys, too. I really enjoyed that part. Stay safe everyone! <3

Nice today, no storms. :)
Back to normal weather which is pretty nice.

Paid some bills, then took a walk to get out and see if BB&B would have another good deal on a curtain rod. I'd picked up a nice set of 84 by 52" heavy linen panels for like $14 at the Discount store the other day...easily $50+ at retail. Site said BB&B were open...what they didn't mention was that they are open for curbside only...argh. So that was six blocks I didn't need to walk.

Decided since I was out anyway, I'd hit up Lowe's which is about 6-7 blocks in the other direction. That place was a scene...tons of people, little crew and only three lanes open..two of which are self-serve that have to be wiped down after every person...so long lines. Took awhile to find a person to help me find what I needed since I can't read the damn shelf tags half the time. Got my rod/brackets and some mounting screws and got outa there.

Milly had pretty much destroyed the old Harbour Freight moving blanket thing I'd hung up there for years, so had to put something stronger up there.

This'll work pretty good I think....only cost me like $40 or so total.

Of course, she had to check it out...

Monday check in. It's a mess here too, huge riot across the river. It started a little before 10 last night and went till 5 this morning. The news said 87 shots fired, two dead and several others shot. They looted and pillaged all over town breaking in and looting, vandelizing, and burning down not only businesses but cars and some houses, I sleep with my 44 under my pillow and my AK right beside the bed.. Pretty intense. When the shootings, several places in town, were over the started running over people in their (or stolen) cars, put several in the hospital one was a police officer. From there they came across the river and started here. First time that has ever happened. Totally sucks. Told the wife we ain't goin anywhere unless my 44 goes with us. I wish I never would have to go back in that town, it used to be a half azzed safe town 10 years ago, not anymore, gets worse every day.

I agree, this isn't about George anymore, it's just an excuse to steal, vandelise, and destroy. If they keep it up I fear it turning out like Kent State, but at Kent State the protesters weren't violent or distructive like these are.

Another cold day here but all is ok. Restrictions are lifting but covid cases are still being recorded daily. I expect the numbers will soon rise as people begin to socialise again at bars and restaurants. It's weird though, they say nobody can stand or sit at a pub bar and must be seated to be served food or drinks and yet the news showed and interviewed a bloke and another near him sitting at the bar saying how wonderful it was. The same news who told us what the socialsing rules were. The same news introduces that next story after the adds will be footage of the protesters on the bridge with a tanker truck ploughing into a crowd of people. Yet it happened half a day earlier and it clearly didnt plough into the crowd, wasnt good to see happen how it really did take place but it certainly wasn't ploughing into them. Another story of a girl stealing a cheesecake and how she is now an online sensation with posts about her doing it recieving thousands of likes! Im dumbfounded. I feel like the world has become in the space of a few short months life imitating art with us turning into the movie Idiocracy.
Hope all the crazy there ends soon. Stay safe there people.
