Been a long day already.
Fighting with the audio setup between my new computer, the old stereo, the newish HDTV, and too many wires...lol Problem was...well, compatibility. New Comp has onboard Realtek everything for network and audio. They suck terribly in Linux.
I
had it all working fine, then I realized..the sound was coming from my damn video card via HDMI, not the actual audio device that routes to my stereo. So the old EVGA 560ti was working harder than it should, I couldn't do hardware re-encodes, and Video cards shouldn't be doing damn audio. Arggh.
So, I turned off all the onboard shit on the motherboard. Networking is now via an actual Intel gigabit LAN card, and I put the ancient but awesome Sound Blaster Audigy sound card from the old computer in this machine. Everything is great now. Except I lost the ability to control everything from the TV's remote. Fuck.
Figured it out though; I used some creative cabling and the 'ol Yamaha amp to switch between inputs for audio, while the newer TV handles the video switching. It's another remote to use but works nicely and with a lot better quality.
Dedicated Hardware beats onboard every damn time.
Two remotes, but only Three Buttons to rule it all...yeah it's a bit of a mess ATM...don't care.
Now, I'm gonna sit my ass down and have a genuine original recipe Mexican Coke with real cane sugar and some 8yo Black Velvet.
eNascar Pro Heat from 'Dega is on at 5pm.
