It's true, Texas is definitely the home to the best brisket in the country. And fajitas, and salsa. We come by it naturally with all the Mexican population here. Love southern and Mexican cooking! Ugh! Now I'm getting dangerously hungry!

Me too! Need to eat before I go back to work in a few. Won't be no brisket, fajitas or salsa though :(

I guess brisket would be a little hard to come by up there, wouldn't it?

You can buy the cut if you have the skill to smoke it, but I've never had a decent one at a restaurant or cookout.

My Mr. makes a decent one (don't tell him it's substandard to TX, it would hurt his manly feelings, lol)

I'm strictly competent at the BBQ, not outstanding

Stuart, you'll have to make a trip south one of these days.

That sounds good. Kentucky is not known for its brisket, haha. Not sure what it is were known for but it's not that (please don't say our fried chicken. The truth is KFC elsewhere tastes better than it does here...)

I am getting slammed right now by a wall of red lines on the radar. It's dark enough outside you'd think it was almost 10pm....
I was about to say it's like that here, too, then I saw we live in the same state!
Kentucky is not known for its brisket
Head to Owensboro. I'm not a fan of mutton, though it's huge there, but they can make some of the best BBQ anything out that way.

It's worth the stop to hit Moonlight BBQ. Dad was a huge fan of Old Hickory BBQ, I preferred Moonlight. He and my mom grew up there, I spent a lot of my childhood visiting.

We used to have a subsidiary in Owensboro. They treated us to the mutton barbecue and I'm not a fan. Maybe I'm just spoiled with good brisket.

A good brisket is slow cooked on a huge carousel type pit for many hours. Even our HEB grocery stores carry already cooked brisket, although it's not the best.

I like HEB brisket ok.
Alright, sometimes when I don't feel like smoking it all day, I cheat. I'll smoke it for a few hours, then, before bed.............put it in the crockpot with some Lipton Onion soup. Don't tell.....

I hear that. I wasn't much of a fan of brisket until recent years. I have never been, and will never be, a fan of Mutton. Stuff gives me the willies!
I'm so hungry....
Ditto... it's become too much in here, lol.
