Erlkonigin Clone. It's a winner.

FT has come through with replacement tanks. Various colors for $1.30 each or a variety pack of 7 for $5.93. https://www.fasttech.com/products/3023/10011232/1965503

Nice. Can also be very useful beyond Erlkonigin, such as tanks with Kayfun, Orchid, etc. threading. The OD is a bit smaller, but the ID fits perfectly over these thread rings:

I just did one. Assembled you get a 49mm long tank. Or it can be shortened to whatever you need.

Drifted off topic. But maybe I should be posting this elsewhere... o_O

Drilled out the center pin to 2.4mm at center vent and 1.7mm at the side vents. Don't want to go for more than that. Smoothed all sharp edges around vents to stop whistling. The draw has opened up significantly, much much better than Kayfun.

Did a first build and am having shorting issues and irregular ohm readings. Must be contact with chamber or between center pin and base. Gonna grind a bit more gap around positive post. And make a smaller diameter coil.

Clones! As usual, you have to finish them yourself.

For those of you using silica, ekowool or ReadyXWick, what diameter are you using?

But it is noisy as hell ... that is the only negative I've found so far

Vaping my drilled out Erlkonigin (vent adjustment ring removed) alongside my drilled out KFL and drilled out Orchid. (None of them can be opened that much more than stock so their relative stock performance applies.) The Erl is functioning perfectly re wicking, juice flow, and leakage, though a bit of gurgling for a few hits after filling until the vacuum builds up. The draw of the Erl falls right between the other two. No more whistling since rounding all the sharp edges in the center and side air holes of the center pin.

Can't say the Erl tastes better than the KFL. The two builds are very similar but different juices. Even so, I wouldn't expect it to taste much different.

Neither can compete with the Orchid on lung hits for obvious reasons . However, the Erlkonigin lung hits substantially more freely than the KFL which makes it a more satisfying vape for me.

Among single coils, which are my preference for stealth rigs, my KFLs were already on their way to retirement because of airflow. Whether Erlkonigin replaces them remains to be seen. You just don't have many tank options with the Erl at this time. Meanwhile Sat22 continues to assert its qualities. It's the best tasting single coil RTA I have tried. And I love the small form factor. Now if I can only get up on the learning curve with my builds and keep that wick saturated...

After a week with my slightly tweaked Erlkonigin (drilled out) I'm very happy with it. Like it better than my KFLs, except that air hole leaks go directly into your 510 connector. :(

Erlkonigins are not showing up today on FT. Legal action?

Whoops. Just noticed my 510 contact screw is stripped, just spins in place. Didn't happen while tightening or loosening, so must have stripped just from putting on and off mods. Can't access the threads to inspect them until I remove coil and push the screw out through the air hole. :(

Now have the A-Mod / Wofofo Erlkonigin on order -- it's like waiting for Christmas. ;) And, after tonight, also have one of the mini-Erlkonigin (w/3ml tank) clones on order.

I haven't received my mini erl yet but can foresee drilling out the center post. it's threaded at one end correct? so don't want to go too far down. 2.4mm you said will work?

You got it. Be careful with the depth because of the 510 screw threads. You'll see when you get it disassembled. Go no deeper than the side vents. 2.4mm (3/32") dia. is what I did. Didn't dare go bigger.

Damn, this is like waiting for Christmas... I'm stuck with the dreaded "processing" on one and "packaging" on another. Man, how long will this take... :(

Hey curious - how long did it take for them to ship the glass? I ordered a few the other day because all of my Erl plastic tanks are cracking, so curious.

Thanks.

IBTanked was pretty fast. The time between order and delivery was within a week.

First build (a week or so ago) is having leaking issues out the bottom of the atty to the 510 etc. A little while in use, much more when not.

My wicks are very short, just to the very top of the juice channels. Never ever a dry hit. So I'm thinking maybe I can afford to extend the wicks down the channels a bit and maybe that will reduce the leaking.

Any other leakers here?

Haven't had a leak since I changed my wicking style. I'm using jap cotton and peel the top woven layer back then trim the rest at the curve and run the woven section pretty much all the way down the channel. No leaks and nary a dry hit with 75/25 VG/PG.

J-cotton here too, and 70/30. Good idea, even better the result. :D Gonna give that a try.

I carried the style over from wicking the Rose. I use only the woven layers on that since it's easiest to use a 1/16" coil and using only the peeled woven layers makes it dead simple to double wick and bend it up and trim at the slots. I was pleased with how well the woven part wicks and tastes on it's own. Seemed like a good idea to use the channels without packing them.

I saw that but noticed it's 20.5mm. It may not fit or be very tight on the 20.7mm versions. The IBTanked glass was pretty tight on the topcap of the 20.7mm.

The tank IDs are all the same. Only OD changes, 20.5mm up to 22mm.

I knew the tanks could take it to 22. If the only difference between the 20.7 and the 20.5 is tank thickness then the 20.5 tank is thin indeed because the 20.7 is pretty flimsy.

Have one that's 20.5mm and don't mind the thinness. The difference is insignificant, four thousanths of an inch. One of my favorite things about Erl is how light it is. :) Got two Minis ordered for stealth rigs. So light and small. Bye bye Kayfun nano. :p

If you want really strong, polycarbonate tube stock will work. Listed it here I think on page 1.

I have plenty of spares at this point but even with the thicker one it cracked fairly easily. Or it does if you have one with a fairly tight fit over the o-ring and you give it an absent minded squeeze while pushing it on. :) The replacements don't fit quite as snugly.

Huh. Cracked when putting it on? Or juice cracking?

Cracked when putting it on. Just rewicking and using the same juice. Probably had some juice film on my fingers and squeezed a little too tight when seating the bottom, although I hardly had a sranglehold on it, just a firm grip. I got the IBTanked to fill in while I waited for the PC's from FT to arrive.

Huh. Kinda surprised. Did ya lubricate the o-ring with juice?

Always. Probably just a weak one. I grabbed a handful to have on hand. I do take some care to only push down from the top edge now though.

Got my new Erlkonigin clone built finally. :)

Used this tut for a guide:

erlkonigin tut by vapdivrr

Coil is a 6-wrap of twisted 33 Kanthal on a 1.8mm screwdiver for 1.7 ohms.
Wicked with cotton - only had to adjust the wicking once, now working fine.

(thin in the channel, with fluffed-up "shoulders" before the coil.
But, I pre-shaped the cotton with my fingers and then prodded it with a screwdriver, not cut with scissors as he did)

Tried on this.. worked nice, but didn't quite like the look.

Now we're talking. The dull grey metals and black parts both match nicely. :)

I like it a lot, sort of between the Aqua and the Fogger so far, but much easier to deal with. No leaking or anything else bad.

You sayin' between two dual-coil attys?! :)

I'm looking forward to doing one of those split wicks. Mine has been sorta between leaky and gushy.

Well, it's essentially a DC since I'm using twisted wire for it. ;)

I have never had a KF or Taifun before, so other than Genny's I have no single-coil RTA atties to compare it to.

TBH, the Orchid w/ the KF tank is the best thing I have right now...almost three days on one tank and just used two different bottles to refil it...didn't lose a drop. I think once I build this a bit more, it might be almost as good, but different. =)

Here's my Erlk setup:

Those pics show my first wicking try, which got some random yuck hits, so I used a bit more cotton and bigger/fluffier "shoulders" the second time. Doing well thus far.

Best part is I *can* rebuild the thing without draining the tank if I want, but I just stick a needle in there and drain it. That takes seconds anyways and no full tank waiting to fall over. ;)

Perhaps just me, but I've noticed it's gotten less noisy with use?
After an initial bit of noise on the draw, it's almost silent about 2+ seconds in. Sounds like radio static a bit, but that's about it.

Nice coil. Erl Mini is my new go-to single coil RTA for stealth. Bye bye Kayfun Nano. :p Infrequently mentioned is how light Erl is, which to me is a primary attraction, along with improved air flow over KF. :) I'll get on top of the leaking problem. My short wicks are the culprit, me thinks.

Oh, another attraction. There are a few drip tip adapter styles, but this one is particularly nice. Let's you use a really short tip for stealth. Gonna go even shorter by cutting this one down by about half. :)

I like that one. Where do you guys get your 510 adapters for the Erlk?
Mine didn't come with one and they seem like $10+ on average from what I can see.

Not paying frickin' ten dollars for a tiny stub of metal that it should have come with anyway.

Dunno. Wouldn't pay that either. I go for the SS DT models because of the included adapter.

Yeah, I should have, but just was being cheap on FT and some said this one had a better quality.

Honestly didn't know if I'd even like it or not.

No biggie, I can just buy another one WITH the adapter cheaper than buying just an adapter...lol

Or you can pick up FT mini which includes both the stainless drip-tip and an adapter. Enjoying the vape (and low profile) while waiting (and waiting...) on full-size to arrive. Rayon, no control ring, delrin drip-tip and glass tank on the mini.

Flavor and vape on the amod/Mofoto clone is just stellar! Likely the best device I've ever owned. And not single drop has leaked.

Really pleased with one exception -- the 510 won't screw down on either of my hana clones; only device I've seen that doesn't fit. Meanwhile Erl fits all other mods without issue. Quite odd.

Looked into buying a die to clean up any shallow/collapsed threads, etc. but apparently M7x0.5 is less common (i.e. expensive). Don't want to return after long wait to receive -- and stellar vape. Suggestions?

Edit: Was able to successfully thread Erl on hana clones. Think the issue might have just been less play in the amod threads
