I decided to save the snow pea seeds for a fall planting. So instead I planted pepper plants (6 fresno red and 6 poblano) I got all 12 plants in a short space by doing a "zig-zag" pattern and will "snake" a soaker hose between them. Finally found my "new zealand spinach" seeds (in a box of electronic parts LOL) Starting them in a container, then transferring into the ground (last year it got so big I had to water the container almost every day)

I feel so bad telling you all this. I love bees but even though I don't like wasps (paper wasps), I have left them alone for a couple years (without incident) There is a nest just outside my window (under a wood awning) I'm the only one who knew it was there. The weather was still cold and I was going to just go out in the morning and knock the nest down (instead of spraying poison) but I waited too long... it warmed up and they are very active now. It's not my house (and please don't judge me for my living situation) I live with my 84 year old mother (for the last 4 years... long story) and my 40 year old nephew. He has a 6 year old autistic child (shares him with his ex) I have no idea if this kid is allergic to bees/wasps. He would kill me (not a figure of speech) if that kid got attacked by wasps (and that I knew and didn't tell anyone) So...
got out the killer wasp spray. It was too easy but I feel remorse. If this was my house, I might have just let it go.
On a positive note... the tomatoes and pepper are doing great.

Hi Jimi,

If you have a pantry and cook at all, I'm betting this has happened to you at some point:
You buy a bag of potatoes (they were on sale, or you needed some for a recipe and it was cheaper to buy the bag…) use a few and the rest are stored away “for another time.”
When you finally remember them, you see that most have eyes that are sprouting.
Some of the sprouts may even be inches long.

And you think:
Are these okay to eat?
If so - what can I do with them to use them up so I don’t have all this waste?

I’d like to say this only happened a couple times to me, but no - many times over the years. 😂
So I did some research and wrote a whole article on:

And guess what?
LOTS of other people had the same questions I did, so I thought you might appreciate these ideas, too!

Commercial Bee Supply, a leading voice in the beekeeping industry, is spearheading a crucial initiative to establish a standard of identity for honey in the United States. Without clear guidelines, commercial beekeepers face challenges such as price fluctuations and consumer confusion due to fraud and mislabeling.
Their petition, urging Congress to pass the Honey Identification Verification and Enforcement Act (HIVE Act), aims to protect both consumers and domestic beekeepers. By establishing a standardized definition for honey, this legislation will ensure transparency in labeling and provide greater assurance of product quality.

OrganicConsumers.org: Organic Consumers Association takes legal action against Foster Farms.

Good. I'm sick of producers claiming a standard and then cheating on it, making it impossible for consumers to confidently choose products according to their own ethics.

When most people think of herbal medicine, they typically think of plant parts like roots, leaves, fruits, flowers, and seeds....

But it can be super easy to overlook another type of herbal medicine, some of which are incredibly powerful in their healing properties, and that's resins.

From Frankincense and Myrrh, to Poplar buds and Guggul, these unique remedies contain some unique properties both for medicinal and aromatic purposes.

But they can be super difficult to work with, a bit messy, and have specific requirements for preparing and extracting them properly.

That's why I wanted to share with you my good friend Evan's new workshop series that focuses in on Botanical Resins.
In this free workshop series you'll learn:
  • The main groups of resins & gums and their unique processing methods
  • Extracting every type of resin & gum with the correct solvents
  • Infusing resins into carrier oils for use in countless oil-based topical preparations
  • Tons of professional tips & tricks Evan has learned over the years of making countless herbal & aromatic products with resins
  • Plus, you’ll make a potent and versatile Resin Salve step-by-step for first-aid, pain and arthritis, stiff & sore muscles, cold & flu symptoms, stress & anxiety, and more
Evan's one of those guys that's gone super deep into not just herbs, aromatics, and incense craft, but the traditions and cultures that surround them. And he's truly committed to preserving them with integrity.
So get ready to go deep into the world of aromatic plants and resins.
Take care and enjoy!
