Jimi,
How many times have you heard the term "superfood"?
But what defines a food as a superfood?
Most people agree that these foods pack a greater-than-average nutrient punch.
Here's the scoop according to Harvard's School of Public Health:
"There's no scientifically based or regulated definition for superfood, but generally, a food is promoted to superfood status when it offers high levels of desirable nutrients, is linked to the prevention of a disease, or is believed to offer several simultaneous health benefits beyond its nutritional value."
In other words, they may be the missing link that helps you "eat your way to better health."
Perhaps you assume you need to import these "superfoods" you've never heard of from some remote place.
Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Remember, the nutrients in a "superfood" boost your immunity, prevent disease, and/or have several health benefits beyond nutritional value, increasing longevity.
But here's something to consider: Once a blueberry is harvested, it starts losing precious nutrients.
Essentially, it dies a little bit each day, right?
If you buy blueberries harvested before peak ripeness, in some cases picked weeks or months early, that may have been chemically "ripened" during their long road-trip across the country, only to spend days on a grocery shelf…
do they still have all those precious nutrients that are supposed to make them "super?"
Sure, they are probably still "healthy," but they should be full of life and vitality!
Let's face the ugly truth head-on. Nutrients being lost daily in the logistical process could be the exact answer to some of humanity's most serious illnesses.
For example, new research shows that blueberries lower blood pressure, improve memory and brain cognition, promote neuroplasticity, improve mental health, and reduce the risk for dementia and Alzheimer's.
So imagine growing those same blueberries in a container on your balcony, patio, or as landscaping bushes in your backyard.
How much MORE energy and nutrient-dense would those fresh-picked berries be?
And how much more fun and rewarding it would be knowing you grew them yourself!
