New today at HIC's Mixes : COVA Custard
View attachment 58713
"Coconut, vanilla, and almond come together in this rich custard vape. The inspiration was a popular 1970's potluck dessert called "Impossible Pie" - a baked coconut custard. This recipe requires only diketone-free FlavourArt flavorings, including Nonna's Cake. TFA's Holiday Spice is an optional addition."

Who will admit they're old enough to remember Impossible Pie? http://allrecipes.com/recipe/12161/impossible-coconut-pie-i/ It used to be printed on Bisquik boxes. We added almond extract, too. If you make it that way, it tastes like this. (COconut, Vanilla, Almond = COVA)
Its looking near like
Vanilla custard 3-4%
Cheseecake 1%
Pie crust 1%
Coconut 0.7-1%
Almond 0.7-1%
Brown sugar 1%
And maybe you can add here cinnamon sugar cookie 1-2% and sweet or whipped cream around 1-2%?

I guess that'd be somewhat similar, if you were using TFA flavorings. I'm not sure what you're trying to do, though.

It is actually salty licourice, so maybe it will be hard to recreate for vaping...
1 dl cottage cheese
2 dl frozen raspberries
1 tsp xylitol and 2 drops stevia(or just skip the xylitol and get sucralose I guess, I have never even seen xylitol in my entire life.)
1 tbsp licourice powder

and another recipe:

3 dl frozen raspberries
juice of 1/2 lemon
1-2 tbsp cold water
1 tbsp licourice powder

HallonSaltlakrits_Graddglass-500ml(F636..).jpg

I'm surprised to see cottage cheese in that first one! Maybe that means something different in Sweden. I've never seen licorice powder, but now I gotta have some of that. lol

Can you get German Flavors flavorings? Their Salmiak Pastillen is exactly the kind of licorice flavor you're describing. This is where mine came from (it's in the US, though): http://www.vaperstek.org/search.php?search_query=salmiak&Search=. Lacking that, I'd sure use FA Licorice (maybe with Anise, too), Raspberry, and probably Custard. It doesn't look like it needs other fruit flavors. Custard gives you a little lemon, so that'd keep it pretty simple.

What he probably meant was what they call in Sweden kvarg, known as Quark in other European countries. It is similar to cottage cheese but much creamier and protein rich. It tastes more like a thick yoghurt than cottage cheese.

oh yes sorry I was gonna add a note that I did not know the name in english but this was closest I could think of.
I did not know it was called quark in other european countries and actually I thought this was some sweden shit only :)
thank you for filling in!

Well I could try get it, but after trying the anise I can say already that the flavorprofile I get from FA anise seems to be pretty spot on from the real deal, its just I cant place the other flavors where they belong in the mix.
I will try a new mix later with anise, raspberry and custard. However I am not sure if FA raspberry is the best raspberry to go.. I think the more candier inawera version might be more accurate to the real food taste, and also it feels like FA raspberry is not strong enough to work together with anise, but maybe it will work when I remove the other flavors as you suggested.

I will get back as soon as I have worked abit on it :)

cheers

Ohhh, quark! You can get that sort of flavor with FA Nonna's Cake, optionally with (maybe half-as-much) TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust. I'll bet that would taste much more like the picture you posted than FA Custard would.

but so.. how would i get the sherbet feeling taste with quark flavor profile? then I would have to add lemon instead of custard yes?

I figured Nonna's Cake would probably do that for you, but there's no reason you couldn't still use Custard or add Lemon Sicily.

I just mixed this, and I'm vaping it now (obviously no steep at all)
3% FA Rasp
1.5% FA Anise
1% FA Nonna's Cake
1% FA Custard (you're right)
0.5% FA Licorice
0.5% TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust

Nonna's Cake really suppresses the flavor of Raspberry - I don't think I've ever used it at 3% before, but it's not overkill.
And of course I don't know how your real dessert tastes, but I like this enough to vape it a while. This reminds me of some kind of candy I've had...I'll see if I can remember what that was.

next day: I didn't remember the candy, oh well. After a few hours, this is just "meh" to me. I like Anise best with citrus, so I'll mix the rest with something orange-y.

A few of you have asked about FA's new "Artist Series" flavors: Up, Morning Sun, Labyrinth, Wow, Cocoon, and Metaphor.
These are a departure from what we DIYers might expect from FlavourArt - they're blends rather than new flavors. Most are based on recent new flavors like Joy, Nonna's Cake, Monsoon, Aurora...

With new regulations, more vapers are considering DIY now. I think the idea behind the Artist Series is to give them easy success without lots of effort or bottles. If I were new to DIY, Up would be my choice of the set (it's a mild tiramisu), followed by Metaphor (tastes to me like Nonna's Cake + citrusy Aurora).

I'll probably never use any of the Artist Series in recipes, but a few might be useful as next-best substitutes for other FA flavors, like Up for Tiramisu, for example. Personally, I'm hoping FA releases more new flavors next, rather than more blends.

Just posting here to say thanks for the recipies. I bought a couple last week and three yesterday. The one's I've tried so far are the Grapefruit-Citrus Sherbet and the Sweet Watermelon Juice. Just experimenting at the moment to get the concentrations just right for my taste focusing mainly on the Grapefruit.

I have to say that the Grapefruit-Citrus Sherbet is fantastic. It reminds me a fizzy grapefruit drink called Ting which I love. The balance of sharpness and sweetness of this is excellent and the supporting flavours are great, giving it a little more of a rounded taste; I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

The Sweet Watermelon Juice also seems really nice after making up a small sample but I'll focus on that later.

The downside is that I've gone out and bought around 30 flavour concentrates ...

Thank you for that! Yes, I can see there'll likely be a whole lot more orders being made. I'm trying to get a few recipies which I really like, batch up and take it from there. I've been vaping for about 5 1/2 years and DIYing for a while but mainly single flavours so fancied branching out - my previous attempts at recipies were disastrous, frankly, so it's great to find some which really work.

Currently looking into building a custom rack for my vaping paraphernalia and flavours - I'm heavily into making things anyway so that'll be a lot of fun in itself.

Think big lol! I didn't think I'll need as much storage but between the flavourings & vape gear the obsession grows! I know you will enjoy it here! Before HIC I goggled everywhere for recipes none as good as HIC's, of course some I love more than others but overall it's a win!

I mixed up some concentrates for "Iguana Colada", "Hazelnut Pralines n Cream" and "Gooey Coconut Cookies" and made some juice. Now to let things steep for a few days. I may have a sneak preview on the dripper though ;)

Sadly, I neglected to order the apple concentrate to make "Grapeade and Purple Punch" so I'll fill in that gap when I order the next batch flavourings.

I'm really enjoing this adventure so far ...

Hic's Old Fashioned [Blueberry] Doughnut is flipping awesome after ~two months (but that might just be cuz I haven't vaped it in two months). Found the bottle rolling around at the back of my juice cabinet. I love it when that happens. :D
Hi @retrox  long time no talky hehe! Yeah it's about that time to mix up some except I like strawberry in mine.

Heyas @Heartsdelight! I'm just keeping busy over here, that's all! Been experimenting with some of Capella's newer offerings while I wait for FA to crank out some exciting new stuff.

The sad part of my story is there was only about 7ml left in that bottle, and it's almost gone already.

I just mixed up the Italian cream soda a couple days ago, the flavor is great but it seems to vape super hot. I usually vape around 70 watts with a tsunami rda, I turned it down to 40 and it still punches me in the throat. I'm using max vg with 25 mg nic brought down to 6 mg.
Can anyone recommend a way to bring down the harshness of this vape? Maybe it would be smoother in a tank?
Thanks

I usually vape it in a RTA at 3mg and its fine not harsh at all. Can't remember if I dripped it in an RDA but if I did it was fine. Perhaps it's the 6 mg. Sorry can't be of more help.

Thanks, 6mg is my strength on everything though this recipe has a throat hit of 12+ mg. I wonder if it's the flavorings themselves? All of these flavors I've never used. I'm kinda leaning towards the Vienna being the culprit, I just mixed several recipes using that flavor and they all have a kick to them. My RDA gets red hot with this juice after a 3 second puff. I can change to an older juice and the hotness goes away, put the soda back in and it's hot. Odd...

For me the Fa flavorings are ok, I don't know it is strange, HIC will answer you when he checks in, he's the expert.

I've heard other people who find Vienna Cream a harsh flavor; in every case they preferred it after it sits for some time.
But I've never heard of any flavor (of any brand) that literally heats up a device. I don't have any idea what's going on there!

Thanks HIC, I'm beginning to think that some of the harsher flavors heats up faster which might be what's making them harsh to begin with. I truly believe the Vienna is my problem here. Over the last 3 days I've mixed up 6 recipes that contain Vienna and they all feel the same. I'll let them sit for a week and see what happens then. 4 of the recipes are yours and they are great in flavor, but my throat just burns on the exhale. Hopefully time will fix that.

Vienna cream is one of my favorite creams and while I agree it does need to sit for a couple days after mixing I have never experienced it heating up any of my tanks or drippers.

I tried adding FA Lemon Sicily & FA Aurora (HIC's suggestion for perking up Lemon vape recipes) to HIC's Old
Fashioned Doughnut for HIC's "Lemon Glazed Old Fashioned Doughnut" its goooood! I first added 3% FA Lemon Sicily but upped it to 4% with .5% of FA Aurora, needs a few days to come together, I'm really enjoying it!

Happy first day of autumn!

New today at HIC's Mixes : Apple Strudel Tobacco
p Apple Streudel Tobacco.jpg
"This recipe was inspired by apple-pastry flavored "cased" tobacco blends - tobacco soaked in sweet liquid during processing. Sweet baked apples and rich pastry are balanced with smooth, mild, semi-sweet tobaccos and hints of burnt sugar and spice. This recipe uses only diketone-free FlavourArt flavorings, including SoHo and Shade. A minimum one-week steep is recommended."

Well, crap. Two FA tobacco's I don't have, and I just stocked up on FA RY4 for my 'baccy cravings. Been meaning to try Shade, but the percentages required to get the most from SoHo have held me back from trying that one.

I picked up Cantaloupe Crush from the Hic store instead, and really loving it!

Now that's one I need to try! OFD is extremely fruit-friendly, I think we could put just about anything in there at the proper amount and it would be great.

HIC's Cantaloupe Crush is the balm!
OFD Lemon Glazed yum!
Remember you passed on to me your Banana Nut Pancakes recipe last year? Well it got lost in the shuffle & I just found & made it the other day. Thank you so much! It's delish!

Are the tobacco flavors very apparent? Or is it blended in with the taste of Apple Strudel?

My store recipes with tobacco flavors use them with a fairly light hand to complement the food-like flavors. I use small amounts of Shade as a complex caramel, for example. So the tobaccos are a vital part of the overall flavor, not there only to make it a tobacco recipe. Looking at it the other way around, you couldn't leave out the tobaccos and still have a complete apple strudel flavor.

When I smoked, it was just cigs - never pipes or cigars, and I never rolled my own. You know the smell when you walk into a tobacco shop? To me, that's what vaping tobacco flavors tastes like - at least the milder ones I use. (My Light American Cig recipe is an exception; that one's made to be smoky, more like a burning cigarette). The cased apple-pastry flavored tobacco blends that inspired my vape version smelled delicious to me! For anyone familiar with loose tobacco, one was Boswell's Aromatic Apple Strudel; I've forgotten what brand the other was, but I think it was called Apple Pastry. I don't know if this really answers your question...

Yes it does! So in other words it taste more Apple Strudely than tobaccoly right? And the tobacco flavors are needed to make it taste like Apple Strudel right?

Hehe, I also have a shuffle that things tend to get lost in, @Heartsdelight! I always know where my pancakes are, though. :D

Don't be afraid of the tobacco vapes! The way Hic describes the aroma in a tobacco shop is my experience as well. To this day, I still *love* the smell of (non-burning) tobacco leaves. A rich, heady tobacco is the aromatic equivalent of chocolate for me. And even after 5-ish years of not touching a cig, sometimes that aromatic is the only thing that will satisfy me.

Alrighty then, SoHo and Shade are in the basket. Jeez, I'm just gonna go ahead and see if @Roundhouse can arrange a private parking space for me at BCV. From the look of things last time I was there, they're aiming to take over an entire strip mall so it shouldn't be a problem. I couldn't figure out which door I was supposed to go in to pick up my order and ended up in (what I think was) the mail room! Haha...

The downside is that it makes me extremely susceptible to rampant impulse purchasing. It's a real convenience in the brutal NC summertime though, as I'd rather not have my flavorings sitting in a stuffy mail center/truck/mailbox for any longer than they absolutely have to. I look at it as a reward from the Vape Gods for all those years I spent waiting months for vape stuff I ordered to get here from China. ;)
