They do lack some bed side manners at times but when pushed they will make it right. I still wish it would not come to that though.
My experiences with 2 issues were resolved quickly early on. I tend nice but direct, pretty much this is what's going to happen and let's make it easy on you to make me happy.
I don't blame you one bit to just want to return them for a refund though.
It's not my place to say sorry for them but it sucks what you went through, has happened to me before with other vendors.
Hope you get a good nights sleep.

@ellnic , you're a better man than I. I'm fuming mad on your behalf! I thought I finally found a decent company that not only produces a great item, but also appreciates its customers. This blaze response from them just will not do. I will cancel my current orders for Hohm Tech products and I encourage the rest of the members to do so as well. They have to understand the reason they are a thriving enterprise is due to us, their customers.
Please include this post with your e-mail to Hohm Tech. I will be more than happy to explain to them personally how their response to your problem made me feel.

@BrewBear I really hope this is just isolated and whoever I'm talking to is just someone else who got out of bed the wrong side. I have a horrible feeling that the guy I am speaking to is actually Hohmtech Ben though. I'll include your message.

@raymo2u idk.. I'm British, does that make a difference? Lol

Here it is: my email to Hohmtech.

Hello there,

Almost two weeks ago I purchased two G2 wreckers from VaporCube - order XXXXX. The units were on sale, but were sold as brand new. One unit is Orange, and the other Blue. Both are meant to be part of the Christmas present my wife and I are giving to each other.

The units arrived here in the UK on Wednesday, and were sealed in shrink wrap.

Unfortunately, I have noticed a few QC issues with the units. I opened a support ticket with VaporCube on Wednesday, their reply has been less than encouraging. They have asked me to disassemble the Orange unit to reseat the board as they believe the button is stuck (see below). They also believe that I am using the wrong cleaning chemicals on the mod and it is being damaged (very much not the case - also see below).

This is what I have noticed so far:

Orange Unit:

1. The paint appears to be coming off. When cleaning a drop of eliquid off the body with a white cloth I noticed that there is Orange transfer on the cloth. I have only cleaned the mod with clean dry cloths. This level of transfer after only 1-2 hours of handling seems very odd.

2. On the reverse side of the Orange door there are two finger prints. It looks like the spray paint (if that's what it actually is) was still wet when handled. Not with gloves, there are actual print lines.

3. The colour of the battery door is quite different to the rest of the body. A small thing, but quite noticeable.

4. This morning whilst vaping in kanthal TC, the unit continued to fire until the safety cut out kicked in even though I'd removed my finger from the switch. I'm on firmware 2.5.7. VaporCube believe the button to be stuck, but it remained free and clickable when the event occurred.

The blue unit:

I've used this less as its my wife's unit, I've checked it powers on, but nothing else yet. However:

1. The battery door is quite a bit smaller than the Orange one. I believe this to be outside what Hohmtech would quote as a normal variation (1/100mm - 3/50mm I've been told). The gap between the door and body allows a lot movement which creates an irritating clicking or tapping sound. I first came across this on Phil Busardo's review but was under the impression it had been rectified.

2. This is a minor thing, but considering all else it seems pertinent to mention it: there are scratches or scrapes on the battery contacts at the base. It looks like the part has been dropped on the factory floor and trodden on, but used anyway. Maybe a really minor thing, but it gives the unit a Preowned look. Not great for a present. I can't get a good photo of this due to my old phone and light reflecting on the contacts. If you would like to see this, I can try to get use of a different camera.

3. Could be other issues, haven't used it much except powering on.

The overall appearance between these two mods is: a rushed production and some failed QC. If they weren't sealed in shrink wrap I'd say that someone had actually sent me some refurbs/returns. With Christmas looming and being in the UK, I'm not only running out of time but I have paid £35/$44 in import fees, so this situation is far from ideal.

I have been asking other G2 users on one of the usual forums about their experiences with the G2. There do seem to be some general QC issues, but most seem to agree that I have gotten a really raw hand dealt here. If you'd like to read more, the thread is here: http://vapingunderground.com/threads/hohm-wrecker-g2.191406/page-80#post-1488324

I've made my experience over the last few days quite public as it was necessary when asking from input from the community. You may want to read some of the community responses following my original post. One user, BrewBear, had this to say:

"@ellnic , you're a better man than I. I'm fuming mad on your behalf! I thought I finally found a decent company that not only produces a great item, but also appreciates its customers. I really would appreciate it if you could get in touch with me regarding this.

Many thanks

Pics were also included.

Now I wait.. And I really must hit the hay now. I'll check in tomorrow at some point. :) thanks for all the help.

But if he is the Hohm Tech Director why did he reply to a ticket open on the Vaporcube site with a vaporcube e-mail address? I thought he wasn't directly associated with vaporcube any more. I am very disappointed with his reply. I am very disappointed with this attitude. He should own up and stand behind his products. After all, this is a manufacturing problem covered by the warranty. @ellnic I hope you used PayPal to pay for your purchase. You can surely start a claim for defective product with PayPal.

Im not sure or why but if Ben R is Ben R that I recently emailed, then its the Director of Hohmtech, or atleast thats what the Team has told me. Im not sure why he would be replying to begin with since this is a customer service issue....I dont disagree that it should be covered under the warranty and replaced.

Ok, still here. Really will go to sleep in a minute.

I used to work for someone who would answer the phone and pretend to be someone else. I don't mean to avoid the call, I mean she didn't want people to think the MD was answering the phone. She would put the phone on hold then come back and say "Hello, this is [name]. It was a small computer company in a big premises with quite a few servers. She always felt that it gave a better impression. I'm not saying that's happening at Hohmtech and VaporCube but it did kinda remind me of it.

@BrewBear yeah, I used PayPal. I also paid via CC. If PayPal can't help, my bank probably will. I haven't decided what to do yet. I want to wait and see what Hohmtech says. If I do send them back it'll cost about £15. So all in all I'll be £50 down on the deal as customs won't refund anything even if faulty. I guess that would be open to abuse... Could've got another Alien for that £50. Lol.

I believe from past experiences that HT will in fact do the right thing. They're bedside manner can be a little difficult but when given a nudge or 2 they usually respond very positively.

Think the California and FDA regulations are taking their toll on the Company. Their mods are selling cheaper than ever expected and expense of compliance had increased exponentially.

If they can avoid taking on more expenses by talking a customer out of pressing an issue, they will try.

What you're saying is true @CashNVape, but that one bad apple could get the others to go bad. Yes, the G2 and Slice are great mods, there's no doubt about it. The problem I'm having is with the shitty attitude we, as customers, have to deal with when things go sideways. Your experience when dealing with them is one thing, this guy's (ellnic) is another. I'm certain that if you had gotten back an answer like he did you'd be up in arms, ready to drive to their Irvine headquarters and let them know, in person, exactly how you felt about it...I know I would have.

My Grandpa once told me "There are 3 sides to every story. Your side, the other guys side, and somewhere in the middle there's the truth. Let's reserve judgement until HT responds. They've earned that right here IMO.

Have to admit this has crossed my mind also and it's certainly no complaint, many of us have found advantage in it. I've purchased 3 G2 units shipped for less than the original price for one when they came on market. (the Skillet from $50 to $7 as well) Such a serious haircut in price points could be suggestive: a cash flow issue, looming regulations, maybe the reality of a fledgling business going up against the big guys from Asia. This is all just speculative of course, only time will tell, but I do hope they prosper and continue to be innovative.

With the regulations the smartest thing for Hohmtech to do is dump all there inventory and focus all there energy on mass production of the FSK chip. They will try the Evolve business plan and have there chips in other manufacturers pos mods. I'm sure they will continue selling batteries as I'm guessing the overhead on them is nonexistent, and then they have 2 solid products that are virtually bullet proof reliability wise.

Yeah, getting there boards into other mods has been discussed here in the past, I am really hoping that happens.

The Hohm Base charger is pretty good so far, I have only had it for a week. I did use the Battery Doctor feature on my 2+ year old MXJO 18650 pair that weren't holding much of a charge. They were full when I put them on the Hohm Base and engaged the Battery Doctor so it had to discharge first then recharge and took 9 hours to complete. At the end though it said it put a little over 2300 mah into each, the MXJO wrap said they are 2500 mah so that is pretty damn good for batteries that are probably close to 3 years old.
I also have a Efest Blu6 and a Xtar VC4, kept the Xtar around for the ability to revive old batteries but the Hohm Base is definitely better in that regard. They say to run the Battery Doctor on a battery after a year of use to bring it back to it's peak condition, for the amount of money I have in batteries it is well worth the price of $40 https://www.imrbatteries.com/h-hohm-base-4-channel-digital-battery-charger/

I plan on writing up a little review once I have had it for a few more weeks, so far it takes the best qualities of my Blue6 and VC4 and adds features the other 2 lack. I am going to keep the Blu6 around for the ability to charge 6 batteries at the same time but aside from that the Hohm Base is much better.

I know @Markw4mms was interested in the Hohm Base, I would say in it's price range it is real hard to beat, might want to look into the Opus as well though. I have a feeling the Hohm Base is made by the same OEM as Opus though, a lot of similarities which is good as Opus makes some of the best chargers on the market.

Sounds like a great charger!
Why would you even bother reviving old batteries? I think it would be much safer just to replace them with new ones. I suppose you could use them in a flashlight etc.

I ordered it on Nov 5th It was mailed on the 8th and I picked it up on the 16th. It was 11 days in total, I was very impressed.

That also included a phone call from Jacob about a shipping issue on their website, it gave me a $0.00 shipping option which I thought was free shipping... o_O

He called to give me the price of shipping to Canada ($16USD) and the PayPal address. I never had a call from an online retailer before, they usually make you call them to find out where your order is... Impressive service from HT & VaporCube.

The batteries still work fine, just weren't holding a charge like before, less run time. They were not batteries that discharged so much other chargers would not charge them, those batteries I agree should be retired.

Thanks all. I've been using my Samsung 30Q's, and LG HE4's and HG2's. Oddly enough, the lower capacity HE4's seem to hold up longer? The browns and pinks aren't very old?

After reading quite a bit of this thread I decided to buy a G2. I was pleasantly surprised to find Vaporcube still has the flashsale running. Using code g2flashx1 the price comes in at just under 49 bucks delivered. Anticipation.

I have recently switched to Sony VTC5s. Previously used Sammy 25Rs. I love the Sony just a bit more because it packs a bit more punch and lasts a bit longer. They're also insanely cheap at the moment (£2-£3.50 each!) and 99.99% of the time are easy to identify if they're fake. Things like weight on the VTC5 are often way over spec on fakes, or the wrapper and print are obviously bogus. Sammys are also pretty easy.

I love my XTAR VC4. I stopped using my Nitecore D4 the day the VC4 arrived. The VC4 seems to handle the CC/CV procedure in a much more intelligent way. It's also a very cool running charger. I refused to run my D4 with 4 cells in due to heat. The AC/DC transformer is internal on the D4 though, which has a lot to do with it. I can also highly recommend the MC3000 from SkyRC. It's 4 times the price of the XTAR but if it doesn't bring it back, nothing will at that price or lower.

I like the Blu6 more than the VC4, the VC4 didn't come with a USB wall adapter as well, was using the 2amp adapter from my tab until I found the xtar version for a good price. After about a weeks use I am really liking the Hohm base but if I ever found a killer deal on the SkyRC MC3000 I would jump on that, at $90 though it is just too much.

Xtar SV2 Rocket will be inbound, needed something to quickly charge a pair of HΩ Grown's. An authentic BFDFT will be inbound with it, I didn't want a true to name Dump Tank 30...

Any opinions on the BFDFT?

Yeah the MC3000 is an expensive charger... But worth it ;-) I have no experience with the hohm base, but have to admit it looks pretty good so far. I wonder who made it must be one of the usual charger manufacturers.

I know what you mean about lack of 2A charger. I have found these are at least 2A:

iPads (and probably other tabs)
JBL charge 3
Seagate Portable Wifi HDD
Samsung Galaxy

Not an exhaustive list, but I collect PSUs and these are the ones I have.

The Blu6 is good. I wish that screen stayed on the battery you select for longer than a second. :p good job there is a phone app, it makes it not such an issue. It would be nice if I got a push notification when a cell was charged, though. I like the fact that I can charge 2 18650s at 2A each in case I need them super quick or 4 at 1A each. The cartoon on the box was also amusing. Once you realise you're meant to read it backwards! :-D
