And, g'night.

Sadly, I don't make much time to read anything - other than what's on computer monitors.hey have you read Denish D'souza's book on Christanity?
Ahh, I can hear it now.. "at the late-night picture show.."
reading a passage that originated in another language around 700 years after the events took place can lead to a bit of confusion.
especially when it was translated from greek or Aramaic, to English about during the dark ages and then retranslated to what we see now, which is still dated English.
its not like reading Michael Criton or even shaespear.
growing catholic and in catholic school up until my 2nd year of college, we actually had classes on what was taking place during the times that they wrote about.. granted I'm rusty here and my dates could be askew, but you see the point. I'm not a historian or a theologian, but I understand a little bit. part of faith is acceptance of the things you don't understand.
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”g]">[g]
'good news' is the gospel. they are basically praising those who bough them the teachings of jesus.
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
this is where catholocism and protestant faiths tend to differ. protestant faiths say that believing is all you need. Catholics say that faith without works is dead. in other words, yes you have to believe but you also have to live your belief, and do good things, to follow your faith. believing alone is not enough.
your point of not being preached to is rather invalid here because part of being a Christian in any way, is to spread the gospel
I'll beAhh, I can hear it now.. "at the late-night picture show.."
(The memes are friggin' awesome, BTW. Well played!!! )
so is that the nature of religon..or is that the nature of man....mothers beat their childeren..is motherhood bad?The problem is not with religion itself, it's with the implementation of religion.
How many people died in the name of god and christianity by the inquisition? During the crusades? During the dark ages?
How many people are still dying in the name of allah and Islam right now?
God is revealed everywhere ...least of all in churches.Sure. My point is that there is no way to believe, with having knowledge. Or put more simply, unless you've been preached to and believe, you will go to hell. I don't believe in a god that will condemn a person to hell that has not been preached to just because he refuses to reveal himself directly. If there was such a god, he would be known to us directly, at birth or direct contact, so that no person that has not been preached to will go to hell.
I'm not...because I don't see the enlightended teachings of Christ or Budhha as a code of ethics or morality I see them as a roadmap to human conciousness and I don't expect people to be enlightened just because they are on the road to enlightenment. the teachings have nothing to do with ethics or morality. You know what the saddest part of threads like this is?
Its when you see people on this forum that you thought you had something in common with or similar views say things and it rubs you the wrong way and and that opinion of them is "soured".
I usually stay away from topics to do with religion and politics. Ive done a pretty good job with the subject of religion and never had too many head butting moments or lost friends over it, Politics, thats one that really has left a sore spot.
To think that someone you had in high regard, great moments, kind and caring times , and BOOM, its gone in one moment over something petty as human rights, racism and politics.
Ive had some of the worst things in my life happen to me by so called " good church going folks" Ive heard the foulest comments on race also.
So Im a bit leary of those that are a bit too zealous of whatever religion they wear on their sleeves and the bibles they carry around while slinging hate and bigotry with the other hand.

well then mabe you might wanna revaluate your definitions. There is something, but I wouldn't define it as God. And yes, it is revealed everywhere.

for me...as a trout fisherman, probablly why I'm a trout fisherman...when I'm spiritually lost ...I go and sit by the river and spend a weekend listening to the river just letting it's sounds and motions heal me and then wisdom is revealed to me, I know my place in the universe or as some people would say I accsess my higher conciouness, or open my crown chakra or talk to God. how do you define a conciousness that is as vast as God..it is impossible for humans to do that ...we can try,but it is futile.we put the baggage on God.when we try to put him in a bottle.Maybe. But the word "god" carries baggage along with it's many definitions. There is no word for my definition.

I know of what you speak. But, the way I try to look at is "I'm the one with the problem with it." When the problem is "over here" in my chair, it's on me to sort it out and get clear as to what has me upset by it.You know what the saddest part of threads like this is?

"He made me mad!" is failing to be responsible for you being how you feel. The other person just said or did something, and your interpretation of that resulted in your decision to be mad about it. They didn't make you anything.
Get it?
You and I are on similar ground of thought. Religion in and of itself is not the problem - it is how humanity often uses it as a justification of means to subjugate someone else. When applied in such a fashion, at it's very core, it is nothing more than an "I'm right and you're wrong" conversation. In the case of the Christianity/Islam clashes, both lay claim to being the "true" faith. The conclusion I reached a long time ago is if two groups are claiming that each is "right" about something that can't be proven, neither can be right - or wrong - about their position. The problem is not with religion itself, it's with the implementation of religion.

Just to be clear I personally did indeed like it...Nuff said.Thank you for letting me know, i just saw it and did not notice that any of that subject was touched on.
Funny, I was on THAT other thread for 4 years and I think I got a hand slap for mentioning things on sale in the classifieds or mentioning clones etc.
I came here a while ago, but only recently actually interacted, and Ive had 2 ban warnings. I will behave and stick to being a dick and offensive in a lady like fashion. Think I will just lurk , Im better at that.
PS, just rewatched it and a big ole dumb shit DOH to myself. I did not even notice there was a reference.... I guess Im just a plain ole idget.
Good point...However you're forgetting 1 big important factor. We people...That's all of us by the way.Have a tendency to be rather foolish and foolhardy. If god made us unable to deny his existance, then we would lose the free will to love and follow him. If you knew, without a doubt, your actions would send you to heaven or hell and you had a grasp of how eternal damnation was, youd be a fool not to kneel before him.
Not having proof, enables us to make this decision freely.

You can actually see my Taurus under my phone here.
Actually the word Christian literally means (Like unto Christ)Being a christian simply means to follow christ, i see there are a lot of misconceptions about this, on both sides.

You're kind of misrepresenting that.Have to agree here with the basis of argument. In Christian theology, all will be judged. Ignorance is not an excuse to escape damnation in their rulebook.
Poor darlingI taught my son that when we potty broke him. Kids hung like dad.
Er...In short yes.Doesn't nullify my statement. All will be judged.
The measure of the judgement is what you're arguing for.
Which is fine. I understand the basis.
It's a call for the faithful to live and be in the world as an example of the faith they hold.
Not sure why.I have to say all things aside I am absolutely floored by the incredible ignorance, lack of knowledge and miscoceptions that most of the so called aethist on this thread have of all the worlds major spiritual traditions...it was quite surprising.
And yet you could sit at my table anytime you wished...Cheers!Maybe I'm a lost cause.
ZINGIt pisses me off when people try to force vaping on smokers like it's some kind of new religion / cult.
They will quit smoking if and when they feel like it and the more you force vaping down their throats the more they will grow to despise it.
Minor correction (It was closer to 3 centuries...Yes you read that right Three Hundred Years After)The Gospels weren't written by people who met Jesus and the earliest one was still almost a century after Jesus' crucifixion (if it happened).
That might not work.go to church in drag.
Fine you can be Dr. Frakenfuter.Only if I can rock it like Tim Curry.
That would include Catfish as well.Shrimp is as bad as homosexuality in Leviticus...
Leviticus 11:9-12King James Version (KJV)
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.
Well goodnight and make an extra pot of coffee when you wake up.jesus.... I'm going bed.
ive had enough negativity for one day
- for the record- shrimp have fins and as ive stated I'm a bad catholic
I'm more of a Riffraff guy myself..Fine you can be Dr. Frakenfuter.
I'll be Eddie and my wife will be Columbia.
And we're 2-0 with people needing to quantify an otherwise correct statement. I'm curious as to why that is? (As in, actually curious as to why you and @martnargh felt compelled to quantify it, not that I'm trying to troll you out on it.)You're kind of misrepresenting that.
(Who* will render to every man** according to his*** deeds.) - Romans 2:6
*God in this case.
**Yes everybody.
***That person's alone.
Therefore yes all will be judged, but only for what they themselves have done.
That is one view or opinion. Not invalid. But get that's what it is.If there is no god than life serves no purpose.
You should see the ones in hidingHoly hardware batman. That's literally enough to arm a small army.
I understand, not forcefeeding, we are discussing. Which is why i asked the questions i asked. That is one view or opinion. Not invalid. But get that's what it is.
Purpose, value and meaning are all going to be what you decide to ascribe to life. Up to you to decide how you play in the sand box.
This life is all that we have. Make the most of it and do not belittle it with a promise of reward after you die.If there is no god than life serves no purpose.
What is life then? Procreation? Longevity of mankind? We are doing a pretty good job of destroying the planet so by that mindset we are doomed. Then what? Reincarnation? Lights out?
Im actually curious to know what the non believers believe we are here for and where we are going.
