Eleven Healthy Reasons to Use Baking Soda Every Day​

We have been using it to turn our acidic rainwater from the tank to alkaline for a while. I realised when I got my fish tank that the water was acidic, not full on acidic but on the acidic side. It only takes a tiny bit per 1 litre to fix it and take it to the alkaline side of things.
As the acidity changes from rainfall to rainfall at times I check it now and then to see where its at.
Just this much below is all I need per litre. Sometimes half that.

Water in a lot of places is acidic. IMHO everyone should have a baking soda water every day to help balance their bodily PH. Since I have cancer it is very important for me to have it several times a day, cancer can not grow in an alkaline environment.

Granted, it's not easy to actually do this. It takes a lot of practice to let go of worrying and catastrophizing. But the effort is well worth it.

Each time you find yourself resisting a situation, look at the situation and decide what to do about it.

Ask yourself, “What is my role in this?” Do the best you can do and then simply allow things to happen.

Having a negative feeling doesn't always mean having to act on it. Trust that you’ll be okay no matter what circumstances come your way.

Ok, there is a delicious and super-wholesome holiday recipe down below, but before we get to that…

A few quick words on the upcoming Thanksgiving:

Every year toward the end of November, something I can only describe as magical begins its annual swirl through the air. The feeling is subtle at first, like the flurries before a snowstorm, but as the days grow shorter and the mercury drops in the thermometer, it takes on an intensity that’s hard to deny.

This warm inner smile is something my family looks forward to each fall.

Each and every one of us is hardwired to the cycles and rhythms of nature. And if we take a moment to acknowledge the dance of life on this beautiful rock we call earth, there is so much there waiting to show us its majesty.

It is widely known that Native Americans believe the earth has a soul — including all its plants and wildlife — and this is a time to pay homage to it all. No matter who has invited us to Thanksgiving, there is no time like now to bring those values to the table.

Food is an occasion to come together, to experience the miracles of the natural world around us and to give ourselves the nourishment that is our birthright.

With that in mind, here’s one of our all-time favorite recipes, a delicious veggie side that we make room for every Thanksgiving:

Herby Oven-Roasted Carrots and Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. fingerling potatoes (halved)
  • 1/2 lb. carrots (chopped roughly)
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1-3 cloves of garlic (but really, just measure with your heart)
  • 2 tsp. fresh rosemary
Instructions:

  1. Set your oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Whisk together some olive oil with the salt, pepper, and rosemary.
  3. Toss the veggies in seasoning mixture.
  4. Place onto a cooking sheet large enough for your veggies to all lay flat (this will help ensure they get that nice roasted crust).
  5. Roast for 30 minutes. Check on it halfway and turn over the veggies so the other side gets crunchy.
  6. Allow to cool and serve!
That’s it — easy and delicious.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a condition in which blood clots occur in a deep vein in your body (usually the legs). If that clot travels to the lungs, it can cause a deadly pulmonary embolism.

Travel is one of the major factors that can contribute to DVTs, because sitting still for hours — whether in a car, train, or plane — can cause the blood to pool in your legs, and lead to the formation of clots.

When you travel by car, it is imperative to take advantage of every rest stop you come across to get out and stretch your legs. And if you’re on a train or plane, you need to get up and walk around frequently.

This sounds simple, but it’s your best protection.

If you’ve experienced any type of blood clot in the past, talk to your doctor about special precautions to take, such as wearing compression stockings. In addition, taking aspirin during your trip can help prevent blood clots.

Hi, it's Chelsea.

It's a tough time right now. And we all need to make the right decisions based on our current situation, and how we can set our minds moving forward.

If we're always filled with doom and gloom, nothing good will come from it. Ever.

However, when we're optimistic... and when we make smart, enlightened decisions...

We can reshape our lives for the better starting today.

So, I want to ask you a personal question:

Are you living the life of your dreams?

Are all of your days filled with joy, gratitude, love, passion, enthusiasm, and contentment?

Are living a life filled with abundant health, happiness, and magical days with your twin flame?

But if you answered, "no" or "not quite," it’s possible that you are caught up in a downward spiral.

And sometimes negative things occur in a manner that can make it challenging to stay in a positive mindset and heart space.

And I’m sure you know how important vibration is to be able to manifest positive things in your life.

When you are stuck in the negative emotions of a downward spiral, perhaps feeling doubt or disappointment that things aren’t changing quickly enough, it can feel like climbing a steep mountain in the dark trying to get out of that mindset and vibration.

Just as positive emotions create positive vibrations that attract positive experiences into our lives, negative emotions create negative vibrations that attract negative experiences.

Here's what you should do...

There are a few important things I want you to remember about the downward spiral:

  1. Everyone spends time there at some point
  2. If you feel stuck there, it’s not your fault
  3. Often to get back on an upward spiral, you might need help
See, when in a downward spiral, your life experiences will be the result of your negative vibration and can further reinforce the negative emotions you have been feeling.

It’s really hard for the conscious mind to just "override" that and "make the right decisions!"

The Case Against Carnivores


People often make the argument that humans are designed to eat meat. You will indeed find canines in your mouth next to your incisors, and these sharp, pointed teeth are useful for tearing food. However, that is not an indication of a specific type of food, like red or white meat.

Meat eaters also have a shorter intestinal tract for quick digestion, and they lack pores for sweating, usually perspiring through the tongue.



As omnivores, the human body evolved to hunt for food during daylight, requiring pores for perspiration. Because the human diet traditionally consisted of fish and plants, the intestinal tract is longer allowing time to absorb and digest plant-based proteins.



A diet rich in fish and plant-based foods - fruits and vegetables - is healthier and more natural to the human system, making the pescetarian diet among the most traditional on the planet. Fish contains minerals and vitamins essential for health, requiring supplementation if you do not eat it. Cutting red meat from your diet does not require the same precaution, suggesting that red meats are not essential to the human diet.



Eating Fish Rather Than Meat Is Healthier


Unlike other meats, fish does not come into contact with harmful chemicals or pesticides on the journey to your table. It also contains a generous amount of vitamins and minerals that are incredibly beneficial to a person's overall health. For example, most of the iron your body requires can be found in a pescetarian diet, as can the required protein and the addition of omega-3 fatty acids.



Because of the complex combination of vitamins and minerals, fish is considered a powerhouse food, reducing the risks of stroke, osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and some types of cancer. A pescetarian diet's primary benefit is its dependence on the consumption of foods low in fats and oils but high in fiber.



The addition of fish to a primarily vegetarian diet is crucial to avoiding typical problems associated with strict veganism or vegetarianism, like iron deficiency or other forms of anemia. The consumption of fish helps to ensure adequate protein, iron, vitamin, and mineral levels in the diet, promoting well-rounded nutritional health.



Eating Fish Versus Other Meats Benefits the Planet


A study by the Smithsonian Institute concluded the need for grazing areas for livestock farms requires the destruction of a land area equivalent to seven football fields, meaning that meat production is a significant contributor to deforestation. In the US, animal agriculture has led to the destruction of over 260 million acres of forest.



Livestock also contributes to waste and toxic emissions. Animal agriculture is responsible for the production of more than 130 times the excrement produced by the human race.

FINITE​

Life is fragile, and sometimes things happen to us or others that really throw that fact into sharp relief. Most of us get through life happily ignoring that fact most of the time, because it seems like it would be so much harder to get out of bed every day acknowledging that it could be our last.

I used to do something to freak myself out as a kid, and I have vivid memories of the mental images I would conjure and the feelings they would produce. At that age where you are just starting to understand death and its permanence, I would imagine what it would be like after I died to be buried in the ground, hearing and seeing in my mind’s eye the dirt being shovelled over me, and adrenaline would shoot through me. Morbid, I know, and totally unrealistic because we aren’t aware of our physical body after death, but it was a step in my attempts to understand and make sense of life and death and of what that transition could possibly be like.

As soon as that rush hit, I would shuttle those images away, shaking my head to loosen their grip and allowing them to fade, grateful for the suspension of disbelief that allows us to go through life without constantly thinking about the fact it will end one day. After cancer though, I wonder sometimes whether we should always avoid thinking about the inevitability of death.

Just as our darkest moments allow us to appreciate our time in the light more deeply, being faced with a situation that didn’t let me ignore the truth of death nearly as easily allowed me to look at life with far more gratitude and experience it with increased awareness. If we accept that we don’t know what’s coming next or when, it places us in a state of mind where we are much more likely to live in and focus mindfully on this moment, right here and now, which many agree is the best way to enjoy life. It doesn’t make the unknown or unexpected less scary to ponder or less upsetting if it does come to pass, but it does allow us to make the absolute most of the good times, and the warmth of those memories and the desire to reach them again in the future can do a lot to buoy us through the toughest times.

And beyond that, I know I used the excuse of, “I can always do that later, when….[insert “perfect” circumstance here]”, to avoid doing the things I knew I really wanted to do but was afraid to embark on because, what if they didn’t work out? Being anxious about doing something means you really care about it, because if you didn’t care, you wouldn’t be worried about it not going the way you want it to. Those are the things we are meant to be doing, but ironically, it’s that anxiety and fear that allow us to make excuses and push them to “a later date”. However, refusing to run away from the reality of life and death eliminates that excuse, because we acknowledge that that “later date” may never come. All we have is right now, and that knowledge helps us make the most of that now.

While death for many can be a horrible, terrifying, nightmare to consider, it has opposing sides, just like so many things in life. What makes life so special is that it is finite, and the beauty of an ending is that it helps us appreciate the journey there that much more.

Mental Health Monday​

Recurrence has been on my mind even more the last couple of weeks for a number of reasons, and I've been combing back through the tools, supplements, treatments, and everything else that I did in the most active 2 years of my healing post-diagnosis. One of the things I remembered was this guided meditation/visualisation for healing cells and releasing cancer from your body. I really love this one. I find it so comforting, so confidence-inspiring, and it definitely fills my hope tank. I also love that only about half is guided meditation and then the last 7 minutes or so is just calming music, so you can continue with a meditation of your own after the guided section, if you choose. Best of both worlds! I also like to play it sometimes while I’m falling asleep and let the messages sink in subconsciously.

Mental and Emotional Healing Resources: Free Events​

Before I was diagnosed with cancer, I didn’t realise that I had unhealed emotional traumas from my past that may have been contributing to my physical ill-health (okay, maybe I did know on some level that they were unhealed, but I was in denial about that

). And then cancer in and of itself was incredibly traumatic and has definitely left me with some level of PTSD, as it does for so many cancer patients. When I did some work with my therapist at the time and then later with a theta healer (you can read about that in part two of my We Are Worthy series here), I realised I had two big emotional wounds still left unhealed that I had convinced myself were healed. Those types of wounds can lead to chronic stress and anxiety, depression, and all sorts of other effects that can affect our physical health and wellness over time.

Healing emotionally and mentally is often hardest part of any healing journey. It's rarely a straight line and usually a long process, usually ongoing for life as new things come up or happen to us. This means we need tools and support! No one should have to navigate this healing on their own, and often that’s actually an impossible undertaking.

Diet and Nutrition: Recipes​

It is the time of leftovers! Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, there are mounds of leftovers this time of year, and after Canadian Thanksgiving last month, we were no exception. Around that time, Jesse sent me a blog about hand pies made with leftovers, and I was inspired! If you aren’t familiar with a hand pie, it’s exactly what it sounds like: a little pie that is enclosed so you can take it with you in your hand. It looks like a calzone but with pie filling instead of pizza toppings inside. While traditional hand pies have fruit fillings, you can absolutely make them savoury, and that’s just what you do with this leftover-filled version. I combined it with another recipe to make it paleo, and I have to say, I was incredibly impressed with the results!

Choose to think more positive thoughts. When we are faced with uncertainty, we tend to think of the worst-case scenarios.

The stress and anxiety cause us to automatically view uncertainty as bad. But the fact remains that uncertainty is neutral. When something is uncertain, it means we don't really know what's going to happen.

No matter how much you worry, you can’t know what the outcome is going to be. Obsessing over the worst-case scenario is not helpful.

It adds to your stress, triggers unhealthy behavior patterns, and also affects your health.

Stay as calm as you can. Thinking positive thoughts will help you manage your anxiety and make better decisions.

Effective Ways to Increase Your Vitamin D Levels​

Many professors in physics and engineers have been arguing that EMFs from Wifi, Bluetooth gadgets and cell phones cannot possibly damage the human body or harm its DNA.

Why would they say that? Mainly, because it’s true that this low-level radiation emits energy with a power density that’s orders of magnitude LOWER than dangerous x-rays, or nuclear radiation.

But all these PhDs got it completely wrong. Researchers are now closer than ever to identifying the mechanism of harm from EMFs.

In 2013, Dr. Martin Pall from Washington State University published a groundbreaking paper on the mechanisms that could explain how EMFs are able to stress every single cell in your body. (1)

Pall argues that these EMFs do not directly damage your DNA, but instead disrupt the calcium channels in your cells (Voltage-Gated Calcium Channels/VGCCs, to be exact)... letting excess calcium flow in 24/7, and creating a ton of downstream side effects.

In other words... the more you’re exposed to wifi, cell phone signals and other kinds of wireless devices... the more your cells get filled with abnormally elevated amounts of calcium.

How is that a problem? Calcium is an essential mineral after all!

Here’s the problem: Every single part of your body can seriously suffer from excess calcium.

- Excess calcium in your brain = link with dementia & Alzheimer’s (2)
- Excess calcium in your heart = arterial plaque & increased heart attack risks (3)
- Excess calcium in your nervous system = nervous system disorders and multiple sclerosis (4)

Most of all, excess calcium in your cells leads to the generation of peroxynitrite, a reactive nitrogen species which could lead to serious DNA damage and increase your risks of cancer. (5)

(Here’s what DNA damage looks like under the microscope. Now you MAY be starting to see why I spent the last 5 years warning the world on how to minimize the health risks associated with EMFs…)

There is good news though. Dr. Pall has also found (in animal models) that using a calcium-blocking drug (like the ones commonly prescribed for heart disease and high blood pressure) can cancel out some or all of this damage, depending on the situation.

In fact, he identified not one, not two, BUT 26 studies which prove that these meds can nullify or at least greatly reduce the harmful effects of EMFs! (6)

So... Is Nick telling me to start taking prescription drugs like candies? Nope.

The research is still very early, but Dr. Pall himself argues that one of the plausible ways we can balance out excess calcium and minimize EMF damage is to take its antagonistic mineral -- Magnesium.

Magnesium might just be Mother Nature’s all-natural calcium channel blocker/regulator, but 80% of the entire population is deficient in it -- which is definitely a concern in our electro-polluted world.

Today’s lessons:

1) Just like many other stressors (ex: too much coffee/anxiety!), exposure to EMFs (think wifi, cellphones, Bluetooth, etc.) will probably increase your need for magnesium.

2) Our soils are very depleted in magnesium, and the top magnesium advocates like Dr. Carolyn Dean argue that getting enough of this key mineral through diet alone is nearly impossible. (7)

3) The #1 supplement I recommend taking year in and year out is Magnesium -- whether you feel the effects of magnesium deficiency (like dizziness, muscle cramps, etc.) -- or NOT.

4) Magnesium does NOT make you somehow invincible when exposed to EMFs. It’s ESSENTIAL for your health to avoid EMF exposure as much as humanly possible. The solutions are explained in incredible detail in my latest course, my latest summit, or my podcast -- so I won’t repeat them here.

And finally, most magnesium supplements are completely useless, and contain hard-to-absorb magnesium oxide.
