Microvascular Angina May Be Deadlier Than Originally Thought

By Chauncey Crandall, M.D.

Microvascular angina used to be considered a fairly harmless condition that occurred mostly in women, but a new international study shows for the first time that it may increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and death due to cardiovascular reasons.

The study, published in the European Heart Journal, looked at 686 patients on four continents, and during a two-year follow-up found events such as stroke, heart attack, and hospitalization for chest pain (angina) occurred in nearly 8% of patients each year.

Special: 'Heart Attacks in the Brain' Escalating in Baby Boomer Population

Men and women were almost equally affected, and the prognosis was no different according to sex or ethnicity.

Analysis showed that high blood pressure, previous history of coronary artery disease, and stable angina were all important and independent predictors of these major cardiovascular events.

Women had significantly worse quality of life than men, although they had a similar long-term prognosis; the researchers say this could be due to the effect of female hormones on pain perception.

Hey Jimi,

Brain fog is one of those issues that everyone suffers from occasionally that can be hard to diagnose.

Often times it can seem like it came out of nowhere…

But I’d like to inform you that the causes of brain fog are quite well known, and today, we’ll be going over the five most common causes of brain fog. So, let’s get started:

1. Nutrient Deficiencies: Lack of essential vitamins and minerals can lead to brain fog and impaired cognitive function. Vitamin B12 and D are particularly important for healthy brain function, so make sure you’re getting enough of these.

One of the easiest ways to recover these nutrients and blast brain fog is this simple morning trick.

2. Sleep Disruptions: Disrupted sleep and lack of sleep can cause brain fog, so make sure you’re getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night and avoiding blue light exposure before bed. Apps like Sleep Cycle can help you track your sleep cycles and ensure you’re getting the best, most restful sleep.

3. Stress: Chronic stress can wreak havoc on your body, diverting energy away from other vital functions and leading to brain fog. Learning to reduce stress through meditation, exercise, and dietary changes can help alleviate foggy head feelings.

4. Food Sensitivities and Diet Deficiencies: Unaddressed food intolerances, such as gluten, can contribute to the foggy head feeling you’re experiencing. Advanced blood work can help determine nutrient deficiencies and food sensitivities, and an elimination diet can help determine which foods you should eliminate from your diet.

5. Medication: Certain medications can cause brain fog as a side effect, so talk to your doctor if you think your medication is compromising your brain health. They can help you find the right remedy, whether that’s changing medications or lowering your dosage.

Hope this helps!

What underlies the war on fat?
It’s big business, wanting us all to eat more refined carbs and sugar to replace the fat calories that we’ve been instructed to reduce.
And I can think of no one who has done more to open our eyes to this ongoing travesty than Nina Teicholz. Here’s more about her from her website:
Nina Teicholz is an investigative science journalist and leader in nutrition reporting who is challenging the conventional wisdom on dietary fat–particularly, whether saturated fat causes heart disease and whether fat really makes you fat.
The New York Times bestselling author of The Big Fat Surprise, Teicholz also serves as Executive Director of The Nutrition Coalition, an independent non-profit group that promotes evidence-based nutrition policy.
She is one of a new generation of researchers arguing that diets lower in carbohydrates are a scientifically sound approach for reversing nutrition-related diseases.

Hi Jimi,

For years, I knew there was something wrong with me.

I was tired, anxious, and I just felt wrong.

But over a few short years, I went on an extraordinary journey of self-transformation which led to me feeling healthier (and happier) than ever before.

🗝️ People ask me, what’s my secret? What is the one takeaway I can share for others to also reach their best potential?

And my response is always the same: going plant-based 🌿

But people misunderstand both the meaning and the process. It’s not as simple as eating salads, or endless beans (though I do both 😋).

Because, while there are awesome rewards that can come from such a change, there also are pitfalls many of us fall in.

That’s why I want to introduce you to this invaluable free ebook: Guide to Going Plant-Based.

Read this short guide today and find out:

🚫 The top hidden mistakes that so many of us make when we alter our diets to be "healthier"

🛑 The sneaky nutrient linked to the development of type 2 diabetes (believe it or not, it’s not sugar!)

🌟 The startling benefits of certain plant foods (like the plant that is linked to a 64% lowered risk of breast cancer – with just one mouthful a day).

🥦 The savoury fruit that has a "cancer-starving" secret ingredient!

And much more!

I can give you endless reasons why this is a good idea: your body, your brain, your mood, and your future.

But instead, I’ll tell you this: let’s right what feels wrong ✅

And let’s get it right, with this guide.

>> Get it (for free) here

To your health,

Sarah Otto

P.S. Along with your ebook, you will also get a complimentary pass for the Food Revolution Network summit, the go-to for health practitioners and the health-interested to find out the latest and most important research on how nutrition impacts us. Outsmart Hot Flashes

A unique protein called TRPM8 is found in peppermint. This protein triggers cold-sensing nerve fibers to mimic the effect you'd feel if you applied an ice pack to your skin. Stash some peppermints in your purse or grab a peppermint essential oil roll-on to apply on to your wrists to do the trick!

How many times do people tell you to take a deep breath? If you take slow breaths and exhale longer than you inhale, you can cut hot flashes in half when done twice a day by 15 minutes! You can pace your breathing any time like when you're out driving or waiting in line at the grocery store.

Spicy foods increase your core temperature and since menopausal women have dysfunction of their body's thermostat, this can cause hot flashes. Instead of salsa (I know, one of my favorites too) load up on veggies and hummus.

A cold compress on the back of your neck or head can dull pain signals and cool you down. My mom has been using the Chilly Ice Towel because it's extremely convenient... and that lasts for hours. It's a quick, easy way to help ease those hot flashes! Click Here and Order Yours Today!

Alzheimer's and Sugar

Are Alzheimer’s and sugar linked? Read on to find out how excess sugar may increase your risk of dementia.

Hi There!

Even if you’re actively trying to decrease your sugar consumption, beware — conventional food companies quietly add sugar to nearly every food, making it hard to buy even a jar of tomato sauce without added sweetness.

At the same time, Alzheimer’s rates have been skyrocketing along with obesity and the underlying metabolic syndrome. This may seem like a coincidence, but data suggests there could be a link between excess sugar and Alzheimer’s disease (1). Since Alzheimer’s is the third leading cause of death in the United States, this is a very alarming issue.

Dr. Perlmutter, author of the best-selling book Grain Brain, suggests there are a wide variety of neurological issues attributing to the standard Western diet. Additionally, Harvard University’s Dr. Emily Deans suggests new evidence pointing to correlations between the standard Western diet and smaller brain size (2).

While there is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, a small UCLA study recently revealed how partial memory loss could be reversed (3). How did researchers do this? By following a Paleo-like template. This landmark study and its supporting data continues to notion that a high-carb/ high-sugar diet may not be good for a person’s mental health.

And without mental health, what kind of health can we really have?

Until next time,
The Bright Naturals Team

Hey Jimi,
Supplements are a great way to boost your health when you are deficient in vitamins and minerals. However, they should never be used as a replacement for a healthy diet.

The vitamins and minerals found in food are in their natural form. Supplements on the other hand don’t tend to contain the same level of nutritious benefits as the real thing. So, it’s much better to get your daily dose through your diet where possible.

It was like magic...

That first time I blended oil with beeswax and created my own herbal salve.

For years, that was pretty much the only topical herbal remedy that I used because it was the only topical remedy that I knew how to make. Until... I learned how to make an herbal lotion.

Lotions were a game changer.

They are way creamier and more luxurious than a salve IMHO. I still use salves for first aid situations from time to time, but lotions are what I use on my skin every single day.

Now, making lotion seems like it would be a tricky and daunting process. However, with Tara Ruth’s step-by-step guide, it’s a simple process. I love watching that one single moment when your oil transforms into lotion. It never gets old.

Plus, it’s great knowing exactly what's in your lotion, which is especially important if you have sensitive skin or allergies.

Besides showing you how to make the lotion, Tara highlights the benefits of the five herbal ingredients. They have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and pain-relieving properties that can soothe and nourish your skin.

A few frequently asked questions that Tara answers include...

  • How do I preserve my lotion?
  • What makes a good lotion?
  • What type of water should I use in my lotion?
  • Where can I get ingredients to make lotion?

Making your own lotion is a fun and rewarding DIY project that saves you money. You have full control over the ingredients and can customize it to your liking.

Check out Tara’s brand new post and let us know how your homemade herbal lotion turns out!

Hi Jimi,
Did you know the rates of childhood conditions are rising?
1 in 6 children have ADHD...
1 in 10 have anxiety...
and 1 in 36 have autism.
Sadly, these numbers continue to get worse year after year and it doesn't look like it's getting better anytime soon.
But the good news is: experts are now beginning to uncover the root causes behind this epidemic...
And it starts with food.
The connection between a child’s body and brain is being heavily researched right now.
And the right diet & nutrition interventions are consistently showing improvements in brain development, language, anxiety, mood, attention, hyperactivity, sensory issues, sleep, digestive symptoms, and even picky eating.
But there is no one-size-fits-all dietary program, each of us requires a unique bioindividual nutrition approach.
That's why I believe personalized nutrition in this way is a big part of the future of healthcare and can be successfully used to improve the symptoms associated with these conditions
The leading expert on this is my friend and colleague, Julie Matthews.
I'm excited to tell you about her upcoming Bioindividual Nutrition event (sign up free here).
She brought together cutting-edge physicians, researchers, and nutrition practitioners
With one purpose:
To deliver the most up-to-date science and cutting-edge practices for parents and practitioners.
I'm also giving a talk about "Advanced Strategies for Rapid Leaky Gut, Histamine and Food Tolerance Improvements."
Whether you're a parent, practitioner, or on your own healing journey, this event will show how to you can be using a personalized nutrition approach for improved health and wellness.
This 3-day event will go into topics that impact families the most, including mitochondria, calming anxiety, aggression, and OCD, SCD/GAPS diets, and the role of bioindividual nutrition in healing autism… …so you can begin seeing improvements.
It's coming up this Friday April 14th, so don't miss out.
I hope to see you there, click the button below to register for free.

The Weekly Vlog: The Insanity of Cigarettes

mail
I just marked the 5-year anniversary of my last cigarette. Reflecting on the insanity that I experienced with my relapse into that particular addiction, I realized some clear parallels to what we commonly experience with food. If you haven’t ever been a smoker, you might not think this pertains to you. But if you are repeating a pattern of overindulging with food, you’ll want to listen to this week’s vlog.

Hi Jimi,

When it comes to losing weight, we tend to focus on the “losing” part…

We can easily become hyperfocused on what needs to be:

  • Removed
  • Restricted
  • Overcome
  • Or, conquered…
We’re taught to know where we fall on the Body Mass Index (BMI), and to do everything we can to stay within it. Even if that means heavily restricting our caloric intake, exercising to the point of exhaustion, or taking other extreme measures to lose weight.

And here’s the thing: these efforts often work - at least temporarily, but the cost can be huge. Most of us who pursue weight loss in this way end up feeling starved for pleasure and enjoyment in life.

Inevitably, our biological, emotional, and spiritual hunger for nourishment can push us to the brink (which is why so many of us get caught in the “yo-yo” dieting cycle).

As we explore in today’s podcast episode, what’s so often missing from the global weight loss conversation is the role of pleasure in finding our natural weight.

Embracing pleasure brings us into our body. You can think of pleasure as the doorway to embodiment … to being “in” the body. And as we teach here at the Institute, learning to be in the body is a vital first step to asking the body to lose weight.

Make no mistake: asking your body to lose weight is a BIG ask – and to get there, we must be in tune with it. We need to track how our body feels and responds to things like our food, environment, movement and touch. While intuition can provide the roadmap to healing our food and body challenges, pleasure signals that we’re reading the map correctly.

So many of us have been taught that pleasure is wrong, or that following it will make us fat, lazy, or indulgent.

But embracing pleasure – and our natural love of food – is one of the most life-affirming steps we can take.

For more, join Marc and guest coaching client Jacques, 55, who would like to lose weight but his efforts to restrict himself aren’t getting him the results he wants.

Believing he is “obsessed with food,” Jacques turns to Marc, who makes some important reframes about our love of food and pleasure, and why it’s time to stop being so afraid of food.

Tune in now!

In good health,

Hi Jimi!
One of the most pervasive dietary myths is that you need to eat animal protein to be healthy, fit, and strong, especially if you are an athlete.
Most people who believe this are unaware that there are world-class professional athletes competing at the highest levels who eat 100% plant-based diets, including powerlifters and NFL players.
Enter plant-based MD, James Loomis, the Medical Director of Barnard Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Loomis has an extensive resume, including serving as the team internist for the St. Louis Rams and St. Louis Cardinals. And he is one of the featured experts in The Game Changers, a documentary film all about plant-based athletes at the top of their game.
In our interview, we discuss plant protein vs animal protein, how athletes thrive on a plant-based diet, how the meat industry influences public health policy, and so much more!

Oh man, did you see last Thursday's edition of the Highwire, the April 6? He whupped Tyson but good. About every 30 seconds Tyson would say "I am a scientist and an educator", and then when Bigtree hit him with a really good one, he said "why are you saying this to me, I am an astrophysicist" (which has what? to do with medicine?). When you have to stick out your chest and say "I am a SMART GUY" every few minutes, it's very telling. Then Bigtree starts talking about the real consensus among highly accredited physicians against mandates, Tyson starts waving his hands and saying "I DON'T CARE, TITLES DON'T MATTER HERE". 🤣😆😂 Then Tyson goes on to do what a friend of mine used to do, which is to reduce all opponents of the mainstream media narrative of Covid to "YouTube influencers".

The truth will set you free, and that is why Bigtree is not afraid to confont his detractors. He's a genius at it. You have to sit through a lot of soft lobs over the first half of the interview before he cuts loose with the hard hits.

I will commend Tyson for agreeing to appear on The Highwire. I doubt he would have done it if he'd ever watched the show before. I've never liked Tyson anyway. He has always been in favor of the things I oppose, like unlabeled GMO, unelected bureaucracies, pharmaceutical hegemony, public health schemes, etc. You can tell by his body language, he has a too high opinion of his opinion. He's a bag of air, polluted air.

Episode 314: WHEN TWO UNIVERSES COLLIDE
This week marks four years since Journalist Julian Assange was imprisoned in 'UK's Guantanamo Bay,' Belmarsh Prison. As protesters walk the streets demanding his release and legislators worldwide mount bi-partisan efforts to see him set free, Del sits down with Assange's father, John Shipton, and his brother Gabriel. They have been tirelessly fighting to free Julian, a captivating journey detailed in their new documentary, Ithaka.

BUT FIRST…

The HighWire welcomes Ernesto Ramirez, who tragically lost his son five days after receiving a Pfizer Covid vaccine. His heartbreaking story resonated with singer/songwriter Brad Skistimas of Five Times August. Brad has mounted an incredible fundraising campaign for the vaccine-injured and is donating the proceeds from his music sales in April to the cause. Don't miss this, or his exclusive in-studio performance.
Then, Jefferey Jaxen reports on a troubling trend going mainstream. Schools appear to be intentionally hiding conversations with students about mental health and gender transitioning from parents. At a time when schools and hospitals are creating a profitable pipeline for children to transition, it is emerging that drugs utilized for such purposes are being found to have no long-term safety studies and come with a litany of harms. Also, as the hyper-aggressive Net Zero push advances in the US, Jefferey reveals evidence exposing fraudulent claims of its' success.' Is the green agenda already failing? If so, why are government powers deindustrializing us so aggressively?

Finally, Dr. Pierre Kory joins Del on the show to update us on a number of developments in the area of life-saving early treatments and what his organization, the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance, is doing to enable medical professionals to treat COVID vaccine injury and 'Spike Protein-Induced Diseases.'

Today we detail the fearless Fight of The Fathers!

It all happens TODAY, 11AM Pacific Time, 2pm Eastern, at The HighWire!

Dear Friend,
Named after French botanist Pierre Magnol, magnolia is thought to be one of the oldest flowering plants on earth. In fact, magnolia trees were here before bees!

Long used to treat illness in Asian medicine, magnolia extract — and its key active compound honokiol — offer an astonishing array of therapeutic benefits, including:
  • Relaxation and stress relief
  • Mood
  • Sleep
  • Brain health
  • Immune function
  • Glucose and metabolic regulation
  • Cardiovascular wellness
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antioxidant
  • Anti-cancer properties
  • Antimicrobial
But to reap these whole-body benefits, you need the right form of magnolia extract — pure honokiol. All the impressive studies done on magnolia bark involve “pure honokiol,” not “honokiol.”

Discover how this remarkable ancient remedy can help you live your healthiest, happiest life in the modern world with Pure Honokiol from Magnolia Bark: One Extract, Many Benefits. This 25+ page PDF covers everything you need and want to know about pure honokiol — including research, uses, benefits, and dosage guidelines for the herb.

NUTRITION BITE

In this Nutrition Bite, we share a delish, quick, nutritious and anti-inflammatory drink you can make in a flash.
Great for a daily boost of antioxidants and other goodies to fight aging, cancer and keep your brain tip top!
While every component of this delicious juice provides benefits to your health, a few of these ingredients shine, like…
Tomatoes and red bell pepper: These are at the top of our list because they contain high levels of the antioxidant lycopene, especially tomatoes. Among the many ways lycopene has been shown to benefit human health, it has been shown to reduce and prevent oxidative damage to DNA, lipids and proteins. (1)
These two ingredients may also prevent cancer because they contain significant amounts of another antioxidant, vitamin C! This vitamin is a tremendous booster of immunity and for younger-looking skin.
Carrots: Carrots, in addition to red bell pepper and tomato (though to a lesser extent), combat cancer well because they contain beta-Carotene.
This nutrient is a “provitamin” of vitamin A, meaning it gets converted to vitamin A once in your body. Vitamin A is crucial for immune function, vision, maintaining organ health, and more!
Cayenne pepper: What makes this spice a cancer-fighting warrior is an antioxidant in it called “capsaicin.” As put by a 2016 study on its ability to combat cancer, capsaicin “exhibits strong anticancer activity through targeting multiple signaling pathways and cancer-associated genes in different tumor stages.” (2)
It’s also a powerful anti-inflammatory, which helps support overall health, and keep you younger!
With that fascinating new knowledge in mind, please enjoy this tasty recipe from our Plant-Based Made Easy Cookbook!

VegHealth’s Homemade V8 Juice Recipe

Ingredients
3 cups tomatoes, chopped
1 stalk celery1 cucumber
2 carrots1 red bell pepper
1⁄4 onion
Oregano, to taste
Basil, to taste
1⁄4 teaspoon himalayan sea salt
Black pepper and cayenne, to taste
3 drops stevia, optional
Ice, optional
Instructions
1. Juice the tomatoes, celery, cucumber in your juicer.
2. Add drops of stevia if you like a sweeter taste.
3. Then add salt, pepper, and cayenne to taste.
4. Optional: Serve over ice
Note: If you like more “body” to your juice or you don’t have a juicer, you can blend everything in a Vitamix or high speed blender. Doing so will also retain the fiber from the ingredients, which is yet another cancer-fighting nutrient!

1) Eating Processed Meat Linked to 44% Increased Risk of Developing Dementia

In research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, scientists from the University of Leeds in England studied data from nearly 500,000 people.

They discovered that consuming 25g (or about 1 ounce) of processed meat per day is linked to a 44% increased risk of developing dementia.

That's around 3 slices of bacon, for example.

Hulfeng Zhang, the lead researcher, said, "Worldwide, the prevalence of dementia is increasing and diet as a modifiable factor could play a role.

Our research adds to the growing body of evidence linking procesed meat consumption to increased risk of a range of non-transmissible diseases."

A range of other studies have found links between processed meat and heart disease, diabetes, and multiple forms of cancer.

In general, processed meats are meats that have been modified for taste and/or preserved using chemicals, smoking, salting, or curing.

Examples include bacon, hot dogs, ham, beef jerky, sausages, and deli meats.
