Diet, Blood Sugar, & Your Adrenals
Hey Jim,

Changes in blood sugar levels may be a sign and symptom of adrenal fatigue. In the early phase of adrenal fatigue, you typically see hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and, in an advanced phase of adrenal fatigue, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

The thing is, you may not notice a problem with your blood sugar levels, but that doesn’t necessarily mean all is well. It is essential to monitor and know the symptoms of having a diet that send your blood glucose on a roller coaster ride of high and low levels. Glucose level swings can result in damage to your blood vessels, raising your cholesterol, and put you at risk for heart disease.

In this podcast episode, Evan and I go over blood sugar and its relation to the adrenals, mold, the carnivore diet, fasting, and more! This could be the root cause of your adrenal fatigue or other chronic issues, so be sure to tune in!

Reclaiming Freedom: A Reflection on Independence, Rights, and Resilience in Challenging Times
Today is July 4th. I was born in the USA. For those who call this country home, as I do, this date is celebrated as Independence Day. It is a celebration of the Declaration of Independence from the colonial rule of Great Britain.
I grew up in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). As a child, I was free to play and explore with my friends, with the only instruction being to be home by dark for dinner. The Prime Minister, Ian Smith, and his government declared Independence from Britain in 1965. It was their flag that I refused to raise as the head boy of my school as it represented an apartheid-like white rule that, in effect, kept my African friends being treated very poorly. They were not free!

There were white-only swimming pools, and neighborhoods were segregated, as were the schools. The high-paying jobs and career tracts were primarily reserved for privileged whites.

During the struggle for independence for the African people of Southern Africa, the tactic used by the minority white governments was to prevent gatherings of opponents, arrest and lock up African leaders who were seen as a threat (for example, Nelson Mandela of South Africa) and restrict the free movement of the African people. Dear Jimi

Recently, I added a new health practice to my daily routine that I am SUPER excited about. It is oil pulling - an age-old, revered practice in Ayurvedic medicine to promote oral and systemic health that is gaining both popularity and scientific validation.

#1. What is oil pulling?
Oil pulling involves taking approximately one tablespoon of coconut oil or other edible oil and holding it in your mouth and swishing it through your teeth between five and twenty minutes first thing in the morning before brushing the teeth. After the time it is held and swished around in the mouth, the oil is spit out and the teeth can be brushed.

For best results, do it first thing in the morning and at night before going to bed.

#2. Why is it called “oil pulling?”
Because the oil is pulled and forced between all teeth in the swishing process, it pulls out unwanted plaque, bacteria, and cellular debris from the oral cavity to create a cleaner, healthier oral environment.

And here is the thing, if we can improve oral health and the oral microbiome, it leads to improved overall health.

#3. How does oil pulling improve overall health?
The oral cavity is host to billions of microorganisms, and it is well-established that some of these microbes can contribute to the development or progression of systemic diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, and many more. That is scientific FACT.

Oil pulling may be a simple and effective practice to promote optimal oral and general health.

#4. Why is coconut oil the best oil to use?
Any edible oil can be used, but for many reasons coconut oil may offer the greatest benefit. Coconut oil has demonstrated significant antimicrobial effects that destroy a wide variety of disease-causing organisms. Bacteria inactivated by coconut oil include the bacteria linked to both cavities and gum inflammation.

And coconut oil also helps fight the overgrowth of the yeast Candida albicans. In one study, researchers found that all Candida species were 100% susceptible to coconut oil.

#5. Is there scientific validation of oil pulling with coconut oil?
Yes, several studies have shown oil pulling with coconut oil in human clinical trials produces changes comparable to chlorhexidine, a popular prescription antimicrobial mouthwash. Results showed an ability to reduce bacterial counts of organisms linked to cavities and gingivitis.

One study concluded “Oil pulling has been proven to be an effective method in reducing plaque formation and plaque induced gingivitis.”

#6. What are the main advantages of using coconut oil pulling over chlorhexidine?
Coconut oil pulling is safe and without side effects. Chlorhexidine is problematic because side effects are common and include tooth staining, mouth dryness or irritation, an unusual or unpleasant taste in the mouth, and allergic reactions.

#7. What should you expect?
Most people feel the difference in how smooth and clean their teeth feel the first time they perform oil pulling with coconut oil. Others may need more time. But even if you don’t see immediate results, it’s important to continue the practice. It pays off.

Lastly, let me throw an interesting wrinkle in the Alzheimer’s disease discussion to highlight the importance of oral hygiene. One of the most interesting and a real plausible theory on a key underlying cause of AD is the link between AD and gum disease.

It looks like beta-amyloid that builds up in the brain in AD seems to function as a sticky defense mechanism against bacterial infection in the brain. Researchers have found that 96% of patients with AD have in the key area of the brain the presence of enzymes known as gingipains from the main bacteria involved in gum disease, Porphyromonas gingivalis.

When dental plaque builds under the edge of your gums, it can form inflamed pockets in which P. gingivalis can thrive and release toxins and gingipains that can damage the lining of your gums and make it possible for P. gingivalis and other oral bacteria to enter the bloodstream and then the brain.

Animal studies have shown conclusively that P. gingivalis gum disease leads to amyloid production, tangles of tau protein and neural damage in the regions and nerves normally affected by AD. That is fairly conclusive evidence and there is growing human data that concurs.

Here is the bottom line from all the research. Oral hygiene is an important strategy to help prevent the development of Alzheimer’s. And I think coconut oil pulling should be a part of that strategy. Please consider making it a habit.

We've seen many patients over the years who come to us after receiving a thumbs-up from their oncologist after surgery, chemo or radiation...only to see cancer reoccurring months or years later.

What went wrong? What did they miss?
As Dr. Connealy has been saying for years, cancer often eludes detection until it reaches advanced stages. However, through cutting-edge blood diagnostics, we can detect cancer markers at earlier stages, significantly improving treatment outcomes and long-term survival rates.

Analyzing tumor markers, white and red blood cell counts, and other biomarkers is just the tip of the iceberg. Rather than cookie-cutter blood tests, we use blood diagnostics that are personalized to you to gain a comprehensive understanding of your health--allowing us to create tailored strategies to address challenging conditions.

We also utilize Live Blood Cell Analysis to gain a clear, real-time picture of your blood on a microscopic level.

Make sure you register so you can have your questions answered LIVE! Invite your friends and family to tune in for this powerful webinar. As always, if you register, you will also receive a link to the replay video.

Are you struggling with low energy and stubborn belly fat? It might not be your fault.

In 2023, an esteemed team of scientific researchers discovered just one common factor in all overweight women and men - compromised liver function.

And the one thing common in skinny people?

Optimal liver function!

One of your liver’s main functions is to cleanse your body of all of the chemicals and toxins you’re exposed to through food, drugs, alcohol and the environment in general.

However, your liver is also The Fat-Burning Furnace for your entire body.

Everything you eat or drink eventually reaches your liver for processing.

The liver then determines if the food we eat, regardless of how healthy or unhealthy it is, will get burned as energy or if it will be stored as unsightly body fat.

Unfortunately, there are over 85,000 toxic substances regularly consumed through the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe that wreak havoc on our livers.

What’s worse, these modern day toxins severely damage the specific liver cells responsible for processing food and fat to energy.

This causes slow metabolism, low energy and excess belly fat.

However, the great news is studies show that with optimal liver function, your liver cells can be up to 14 times more efficient at burning fat and calories on autopilot.

Learn more about how to optimize your liver function here with these 10 natural ingredients.

Diabetes Can Open the Door to Infections

By Chauncey Crandall, M.D.

Diabetes increases the risk of infection in our bodies, and people with uncontrolled blood glucose problems are at increased risk to develop fungal infections.

A recent study, which included data from over 300,000 people, showed that a person with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes has a higher risk of infection than a person without the condition.

Patients with uncontrolled diabetes are susceptible to infection due to metabolic disorder, xerostomia (dry mouth), immune-related dysfunctions, and multiple organ disorders. Low immunity, comorbid clinical conditions, and metabolic disorders may be the underlying factors that determine the severity of infection.

Special: Doctor Discovers Sugar Control Method, Naturally

Here are six types of fungal infections for diabetes patients to watch for:

Athlete’s foot. Athlete's foot commonly occurs in people whose feet have become very sweaty while confined within tight-fitting shoes. Symptoms include a scaly rash that usually causes itching, stinging, and burning.

Jock itch. This common fungal infection causes an itchy, red rash in the groin area.

Ringworm. You may know of this as an infection that affects children’s scalps, but it also can occur on the body as scaly red patches, surrounding seemingly unaffected skin.

Nail infections. These fungal infections change the appearance and texture of your nails, causing discoloration and thickening of either the finger or toenails.

Thrush. This fungal infection can show up on various parts of the body. On the mouth and tongue, it causes white patches that become red when they're rubbed, and can include a painful or burning sensation. It can also occur in the genitals, and anywhere on the body where there are damp, warm skin folds, like the armpits and the area under the breast.

Pityriasis versicolor. This type of fungal infection is usually found on people with oily skin. It causes light-skinned people to have dark spots on their skin. Dark-skinned individuals will find light patches on their skin.

Cosmic Wisdom From A Chinese Mystic
Tao Te Ching – Lao Tzu – Verse 8

The supreme good is like water,
which nourishes all things without trying to.
It flows to the low places loathed by all men.
Therefore, it is like the Tao.
Live in accordance with the nature of things.
In dwelling, be close to the land.
In meditation, go deep in the heart.
In dealing with others, be gentle and kind.
In speech, be true.
In ruling be just.
In action, watch the timing.
No fight: No blame.
One who lives in accordance with nature does not go against the way of things.
They move in harmony with the present moment,

Which phytonutrients are best for your bio-individuality?

Depending on your genetics, nutrient deficiencies, or other factors, some phytonutrients may not be right for you right now.
For example, quercetin can affect neurotransmitters, mood, and the sex hormones, and how this plays out in your body depends on your genetics.
This can be important to understand in order to decide which plants to grow in your garden, which you can learn how to master in Stacey Murphy's upcoming Superfood Garden Summit (July 17-21).
Here's the key when it comes to quercetin and other catechol-containing phytonutrients ... they essentially slow down the enzymes MAOA and MAOB (two variants of the monoamine oxidase enzyme) and also COMT (catechol-O-methyl transferase).
These enzymes clear the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine from your system.
Having fast versions of these enzymes typically gives you low levels of neurotransmitters, and having slow versions of these enzymes typically gives you high levels of these neurotransmitters.
So catechol-containing phytonutrients like quercetin could be beneficial for you if you have fast versions of these neurotransmitter-clearing enzymes because you might benefit from slowing down these fast neurotransmitter-clearing enzymes, thereby raising your low levels of neurotransmitters.
On the other hand, catechol-containing phytonutrients like quercetin could be detrimental to you if you have slow versions of these enzymes and wouldn't want to further slow down your slow neurotransmitter-clearing enzymes because this could lower your already low levels of neurotransmitters.
One of these enzymes (COMT) also affects how quickly you clear steroid hormones like estrogen and testosterone.
I will explain all of this in more detail in another email. For now, let's look at foods to consider growing or not growing, depending on whether you have the fast or slow versions of these enzymes ...
Catechol-containing phytonutrients that you may need want to emphasize (if you have fast versions of the enzymes mentioned above) or limit (if you have slow versions of those enzymes) include:
  • quercetin
  • rutin
  • luteolin
  • EGCG
  • fisetin
  • ferulic acid
  • hydroxytyrosol.
Foods rich in these phytonutrients include:
  • onions
  • capers
  • berries
  • apples
  • kale
  • tomatoes
  • Brussels sprouts
  • broccoli
  • cabbage
  • green tea and black tea
  • radicchio
  • peppers
  • cilantro
  • sweet corn
  • olive oil.
If you want to emphasize phytonutrients that do not contain catechols, you might want to focus on (and grow) foods containing non-catechol phytonutrients, like ...
  • apigenin
  • baicalein
  • wogonin
  • scutellarein
  • chrysin
  • myricetin
  • genistein.
Foods that contain these phytonutrients and are not rich in catechols like quercetin include ...
  • parsley
  • celery
  • chamomile
  • Mexican oregano
  • carrots
  • mint
  • Swiss chard
  • sweet potatato
  • butter beans (lima beans).
To get expert guidance on growing the foods you want to grow, reserve your complimentary spot at the Superfood Garden Summit (July 17-21).
Another potential consideration regarding which phytonutrients to emphasize is if you have issues that slow down the clearance of phenols via sulfation.
In this situation, polyphenol-rich foods could be a problem for you because excess phenols can slow down the dopamine beta hydroxylase enzyme that converts dopamine to norepinephrine and epinephrine.
This can happen if you have a slow version of the sulfite oxidase enzyme, a deficiency of molybdenum, and/or an overgrowth of phenol-producing bacteria
Unfortunately, many phytonutrients consist of polyphenols, whether they are catechol-rich or not.
If you have an issue clearing phenols and need to focus on foods low in polyphenols, here are some options ...
  • potatoes
  • lettuce (especially iceberg)
  • bean shoots
  • butter beans (lima beans)
  • celery
  • Brussels sprouts
  • green cabbage
  • chives
  • garlic (if eaten in small amounts)
  • asparagus
  • beets
  • bok choy
  • carrot
  • turnip
  • parsnip
  • cucumber
  • green peas and snow peas
  • pumpkin
  • butternut squash.
To master the art and science of growing these foods or others, learn from one of the best gardening teachers around, Stacey Murphy, and her expert guests at the Superfood Garden Summit (July 17-21)
And if you want help understanding your genes and other factors like nutrient status, methylation status, and more that impact food choices that are optimal for body, go to the Bio-Individual Wellness website, and click on "Access Our System", and then after watching the video, you can schedule a time to talk.

It’s almost a “sure thing” you’re being tricked by the food industry right now.

Because these chemicals are so widespread it’s tough to avoid them completely.

But even if you can’t completely avoid these food toxins, this list will help you know what to watch out for.

1. Nitrates and nitrites:

You’ll find these chemicals added to lunch meat, bacon, salami, sausage, and other processed forms of meat.

Nitrates and nitrites can form nitrosamines in the body, which can cause major health problems for your stomach, esophagus, thyroid, and brain.

2. Potassium bromate:
You’ll find this chemical in bread, tortillas, crackers, cookies, and other flour-based products.

Although use of potassium bromate is (shockingly) legal and widespread in the U.S., it’s been banned in other countries because of its health risks.

3. Propyl paraben:

If you have a weakness for pastries (like I do), watch out!

Propyl paraben is a hormone disruptor found in pastries and other baked goods, including so-called “healthier options” like Weight Watchers cakes.

4. Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA):

You’d expect foods marketed to our children to be safe, right? Think again.

Many popular kids’ cereals -- such as Cap’n Crunch and Apple Jacks -- contain BHA, an additive that can cause hormone disruptions and immune system changes. AVOID.

5. Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT):

Like its chemical cousin BHA, BHT is an additive commonly found in kids’ cereal.

Studies show BHT can damage the thyroid, liver, and lungs.

6. Tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ):
This preservative is found in Pop-Tarts, Rice Krispies Treats, Cheez-Its, and a whopping 1,200+ other popular processed foods.

It can wreak havoc on your immune system.

7. Titanium dioxide:
This chemical is BANNED throughout Europe and much of the rest of the world, and for good reason: studies show it damages DNA.

Heartbreakingly, children consume the most titanium dioxide since this toxic chemical is found in Skittles, Starburst, and thousands of other sweet “treats” marketed to kids.

8. Brominated vegetable oil (BVO):
BVO is another additive banned in Europe that’s still widely used in the U.S. You’ll find BVO in soda, fruit drinks, and even “healthy” drinks like Gatorade.

BVO has been linked to headaches, skin irritation, fatigue, memory loss, and even severe neurological disorders. Stay far, far away from this garbage.

9. PFAS aka “forever chemicals”:
PFAS are some of the worst of the worst. Overwhelming research has linked PFAS to poor kidney health, reproductive issues in both women and men, weakened immunity, hormone havoc, and much more.

PFAS are used in food packaging and leech into the food itself.

10. Artificial colors:

Synthetic food dye like Red 3, Red 40, Yellow 5, and Blue 1 are added to thousands of foods and drinks.

They’ve been linked to developmental and behavioral difficulties in children.

11. Artificial sweeteners:
These are marketed as “healthier” alternatives to sugar, but that’s flat out wrong.

Artificial sweeteners can disrupt the hormones that regulate metabolism and have a negative effect on weight maintenance.

12. Heavy metals:
You’d expect baby food to be safe and healthy.

But the sad truth is that many of the most popular baby food brands are contaminated with dangerous levels of heavy metals, including mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic.

Most heavy metals get into food through water and soil pollution.

What can you do?

Stay far, far intenance.

Hi Jimi,
Hormonal balance affects your longevity, weight, and mood.
And new research is telling us that the cornerstone of balanced hormones is your gut microbiome.
So what are the top things to do (and not do!) if you want a healthy gut and balanced hormones?
Here’s what the research says.
Yours for balance and joy,

THIS has to be the most frustrating feeling.
It’s when -- no matter what you do or don't eat -- the scale seems to have a mind of its own and keeps creeping up.
I've been there, and let me tell you, it's no picnic.
A few years back I found myself waking up to this situation every morning…
I would step on the scale only to witness a 7-10 lb increase overnight.
Can you imagine the shock and frustration?
I knew something was off, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and seek out the best tests and diagnostics available in the industry.
I went through a battery of "standard" tests, eagerly waiting for the results.
And guess what they all said?
"Normal, normal, normal."
My thyroid, blood sugar, hormones, everything seemed to be within the so-called "normal" range.
But let me tell you, I was far from feeling normal (and the scale proved my point!).
One night, as I delved deep into a medical journal, a light bulb went off.
I stumbled upon a strange clue, a revelation that shed some much-needed light on why I was feeling like utter crap & gaining a bunch of weight out of nowhere.
And guess what?
It all ties back to a rather unusual and unexpected source: the burning of a sacred establishment in Europe.
Curious to discover the surprising connection?

Wishing you a wonderful Sunday.
