Here’s what the science tells about an attitude of gratitude:

  • Lowers stress hormones – women with hormonal imbalance tend to have higher than normal stress hormones.

  • In a study of 45 adults who were taught to "cultivate appreciation and other positive emotions" there was a mean 23% reduction in cortisol (our stress hormone) and a 100% increase in DHEA... PLUS there was increased coherence in heart rate variability patterns.

  • Improves sleep – we know that women can have a hard time getting a good night’s sleep. A recent study found that by writing in a gratitude journal just for 15 minutes every evening helped students worry less at bedtime and sleep longer and better afterward.

  • Improves physical health – those who are grateful exercise more, and more movement increases positive brain chemistry which helps keep this awesome cycle going!

  • Reduces aches and pains: according to a study published in 2012, grateful people experience fewer aches and pains.

  • Lowers depression: those who show more gratitude are less depressed, and that means less cravings, better sleep, and a more positive outlook.

  • Increases motivation: gratitude activates regions in the brain associated with dopamine - the brain chemical that seeks out "reward" and also helps us "initiate action" – which we really need to help us heal and stay well, and may be why we want to exercise more.

  • Improves positivity: gratitude keeps your brain in a virtuous cycle of looking for more things to be grateful for! What we put our attention on grows: practicing gratitude "grows" exactly what we want – we get more of what we’re grateful for.

5 Fun Cranberry Facts

-- Americans will consume 80 million pounds of cranberries during Thanksgiving. Again, that is 20% of the 400 million pounds consumed yearly.

-- Cranberries do not grow underwater. For harvesting, bogs are flooded and the buoyant berries float to the surface, which makes them easier to gather.

-- Native Americans used cranberries as medicine, an important food source, a food preservative, and a dye long before settlers arrived in America.

-- Cranberries are one of only a few fruits native to North America, with evidence of their use in various indigenous cultures dating back at least hundreds of years.

-- Wisconsin is the top cranberry-producing state, accounting for half of the world's cranberries all by itself.

Top 10 Cranberry Health Benefits

Urinary Tract Health

Cranberries are perhaps best known for their ability to prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs). They contain unique compounds called proanthocyanidins (PACs) that prevent bacteria from adhering to the walls of the urinary tract. A systematic review of clinical trials has shown that cranberry products can significantly reduce the incidence of UTIs, particularly in women with recurrent infections.

Rich Source of Antioxidants
Cranberries are rich in antioxidants, particularly polyphenols, which help neutralize free radicals in the body. These antioxidants can reduce oxidative stress, which is linked to chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Heart Health
Regular consumption of cranberries can improve your heart health by improving cholesterol levels. They help lower "bad" LDL cholesterol while raising "good" HDL cholesterol. A study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that cranberry juice consumption positively affected several cardiovascular risk factors.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Cranberries have anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce the risk of chronic inflammatory conditions. The polyphenols in cranberries can reduce inflammation markers in your body. Research suggests that these effects may help manage rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular diseases.

Digestive Health
The proanthocyanidins and fiber in cranberries can improve digestive health by preventing harmful bacteria like H. pylori from colonizing the stomach. A randomized controlled trial showed that cranberry juice could inhibit H. pylori infection, which is a risk factor for stomach ulcers and gastric cancer.

Cancer Prevention
Certain compounds found in cranberries, such as quercetin and ursolic acid, may help prevent certain types of cancer, including breast, colon, and prostate cancers. Laboratory studies have shown that these compounds can inhibit the growth and spread of cancer cells.

Oral Health
Cranberries promote oral health by preventing bacteria from binding to teeth and gums, reducing the risk of cavities and gum disease. This protective effect is attributed to the same PACs that help prevent UTIs.

Enhancing Immune Function
Cranberries can boost the immune system due to their high vitamin C content and other antioxidants. A healthy immune system is vital for warding off infections and diseases.

Blood Sugar Regulation
Cranberries may positively impact blood sugar regulation by improving insulin sensitivity. This effect can benefit individuals with diabetes or prediabetes.

Improved Brain Function
The antioxidants in cranberries may help improve cognitive function and protect against age-related decline. Studies suggest that cranberry supplementation can enhance memory and coordination.

The bottom line is that cranberries are an unheralded superfood.

Of course you want to be careful of the high sugar content in most packaged cranberry sauces (and even certain relatives' own homemade recipes!)

Drink Coffee for a Healthier Heart

It seems like the news on whether drinking coffee is detrimental, or beneficial, to our health flip-flops all the time.

But now a new study brings good news to those of us who like to enjoy a hot cup of coffee … or three. Drinking coffee can help protect against heart disease, stroke and Type 2 diabetes, according to the study.

Editor’s Note: Researchers Make Shocking Discovery: Coffee Is a Superfood!

“There has been a debate about this,” says Dr. Chauncey Crandall, world-renowned cardiologist and director of preventive medicine at the Palm Beach Cardiovascular Clinic in Florida. And over the last couple of years researchers have been studying the health effects of coffee, he says.

“And we now know from a large study in Europe — over half a million people, in fact — that coffee drinkers lived a longer life than those that did not drink coffee,” Crandall tells Newsmax’s “Newsline.”

Special: Fight Fatigue With This Doctor's Secret Weapon

The research, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, also found that men and women who drank about three cups of coffee a day had a 48% lower risk for developing cardiometabolic diseases, including Type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, and stroke.

Some of the beneficial effect from coffee comes from the antioxidants in coffee beans, which decrease inflammation, says Crandall. In addition, coffee increases metabolic rate, so you can lose weight. And it may affect the pancreas, increasing insulin levels, according to Crandall. “So, it can lower sugar and you can lose weight,” he says.

Editor’s Note: These 4 Things Happen Right Before a Heart Attack

There are some caveats when it comes to flavorings, however. “So coffee is good, coffee alone, black espresso, but not coffee with added sugar or other products in it. It's straight up coffee and also tea,” advises Crandall, editor of the popular Dr. Crandall's Heart Health Report.

And what about decaffeinated coffee? “Well, studies have shown that you need the caffeine, so decaffeinated really doesn't work,” explains Crandall.

Special: Protect Your Brain From Parkinson’s and Other Neurological Diseases!

Crandall warns that if you are sensitive to caffeine you may need to limit your coffee intake, and make sure to drink it only in the morning if it disturbs your sleep.

“But in general, most people will do well with one to three cups of coffee a day,” he says.

“I have espresso every day. Love it. Two to three cups of that,” says Crandall.

Swapping Sugar for Maple Syrup May Lower Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar

A recent study tested whether replacing refined sugar with maple syrup could help improve health in overweight adults with early signs of metabolic problems. Over 8 weeks, participants swapped 5% of their added sugar intake for either maple syrup or sugar syrup. The results showed that maple syrup helped lower blood sugar levels, reduce fat around the abdomen, and lower blood pressure more than sugar syrup. It also led to changes in gut bacteria that could be beneficial. These findings suggest that maple syrup may be a healthier option than refined sugar. (More)

Exercise Can Boost Brain Processing Speed by 4 Years

A recent study looked at whether everyday physical activity can provide immediate benefits to cognitive health. Participants tracked their physical activity and cognitive performance over 9 days, with results showing that physical activity within a few hours before a cognitive test improved processing speed—equivalent to reversing 4 years of cognitive aging. This benefit was seen with both light and more intense physical activity. However, no improvement was found in memory accuracy. (More)

The Nocebo Effect: Why Your Thoughts Can Trigger Pain

You’ve probably heard of the placebo effect, where expecting a treatment to work can actually make it effective. But what about the nocebo effect? It's the opposite—and it’s powerful. If you go into a medical procedure expecting pain, you might actually feel more of it than if you were told it would be mild. The nocebo effect shows just how connected our minds and bodies are—negative thoughts and expectations can make pain worse, increase stress, and impact your health. It’s a reminder that our mindset can have a huge influence on how we feel. (More)

TTAC-Thankfulness-Web-600x330.png

Thanksgiving is one of America’s oldest traditions, celebrated by people of all religions, political ideals, and economic status. For immigrants, it’s a veritable rite of passage as they acclimate to American culture.
And while enormous meals, all-day football games, and a barrage of Black Friday advertising often take the spotlight, there’s something even more important – and more powerful – that happens at Thanksgiving.
On the fourth Thursday of November, NO ONE is excluded. The widowed aunt, the grouchy grandpa, the coworker with nowhere else to go — all receive invitations to dinner on Thanksgiving Day.
Americans on the margins of society are included in the celebration thanks to the generosity of individuals, religious organizations and philanthropies that make sure the less fortunate among us have an opportunity to mark the day. Everyone has a place at the nation’s Thanksgiving table, regardless of circumstances or creed.
And that’s because the spirit of thankfulness requires that it be extended to others.
In the fall of 1621, 52 English men, women and children gathered together with 90 Wampanoag warriors for a three-day feast at what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts. The English were the survivors of the 102 Pilgrims who had sailed on the Mayflower the previous year. The Wampanoag were the indigenous residents of the land on which the English settled, without whom the settlers likely wouldn’t have survived.
This marked a 400-year tradition of giving thanks for all that we have and extending our gifts to those less fortunate. And gratitude offers a wide array of benefits in and of itself.
Thanksgiving.jpg

According to a 2012 study published in Personality and Individual Differences, grateful people experience fewer aches and pains and report feeling healthier than other people. Gratitude also reduces a multitude of toxic emotions, from anger and jealousy to worry and regret.
Robert Emmons, a leading gratitude researcher, has conducted multiple studies on the link between gratitude and well-being. His research confirms that gratitude effectively increases happiness and reduces depression.
A 2014 study published in the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology found that gratitude increased athletes’ self-esteem, an essential component to optimal performance. Other studies have shown that gratitude reduces social comparisons. Rather than becoming resentful toward people who have more money or better jobs, grateful people are able to appreciate other people’s accomplishments.
And therein lies the true spirit of the holiday.
It is impossible to acknowledge your own blessings without acknowledging those that don’t have them. To be grateful for the roof over your head, you must first understand that many people don’t know where they’ll sleep tonight.
To acknowledge how blessed you are to have food on the table, you must first acknowledge that people in your own backyard will likely go to bed hungry.
To truly appreciate the friends and family who love and support you, it’s necessary to recognize that there are many who don’t have any kind of support system.
It’s been a tough four years since Biden was installed, and we could talk about the tyranny that’s running rampant in our nation or complain about inflation, shipping delays, or the unjust mandates that have forced many to choose between bodily autonomy and a paycheck.
But we want to focus on how blessed we truly are, especially in light of the recent election! 🙂 Despite the trials of the past few years, we still live in the most free and prosperous nation in human history. God has blessed this country in an unprecedented way, and He demands that we give thanks for those blessings.
In Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians, he says:
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
We are grateful for our loving family. We’re grateful for our friends. We’re thankful for the staff here at TTAC. But we’re especially thankful for YOU!
This entire mission started so that people just like you might avoid the tragedy that my family experienced at the hands of the pharmaceutical-run healthcare system. Our goal was to arm you with the information you need to make the best choice for you and your family.
We hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving. We hope you show grace to those you disagree with, compassion for those who are suffering, and generosity to those less fortunate.
But we especially hope you’ll take a few moments to reflect on all that God has given us. We hope that when you put down your phone or close your computer, you’ll take some time to truly experience that gratitude that this holiday is all about.
We are so thankful for each and every one of you. We love you, and we hope that today will be a day of peace, love and joy for you and your families.
God Bless,
Ty and Charlene Signature

Do you remember what you dreamt about last night? How about the night before?

For thousands of years, we humans have placed a ton of value on the content of these bedtime reveries, deriving inner wisdom and even premonitions from them. Dreaming feels like a birthright, an extra sense that allows us to process (both rationally and spiritually) while our body rests up.

They are one of behavioral science’s biggest mysteries, with no agreed-upon theory of their origin and specific purpose. For some, dreams occur nightly, but others never experience them at all.

One thing is for sure - many who don’t dream wish they did.

Since I was young I’ve had them on a regular basis, but have always known there were deeper places to go in this state of consciousness. The quest for many is to achieve the lucid dream, or “knowing we’re dreaming” inside the dream.

The lucid dreamers I know are able to navigate their dreamscape with an awakened mind, asking characters they come across insightful questions about their life path. They can run, jump, and fly at will, gaining profound inner wisdom from the experience.

If you would like to dream more at night, and perhaps experience the mysterious lucid dream, there are three wild herbs that have been used throughout time to accomplish just that.

The herbs below are all 100% legal and easy to get ahold of. However, please do your own research before trying any of them – herbs are medicine and they should be treated with proper caution. These plants each have a variety of other medicinal uses, but we’re focusing solely on their dream-enhancing effects.

1) Wild Asparagus Root

The Chinese word for wild asparagus root is Tian Men Dong – or heavenly spirit herb. For millennia, it’s been cherished by shamans, monks, and yogis for its heart-opening effects.

Also known as “The Flying Herb”, it’s believed that wild asparagus root helps...

Thriving With ADHD

Did you know that people with ADHD are likely to dream more often and more likely to lucid dream?

These days we like to categorize and identify the many complexities of the brain - resulting in terms like ADHD, and autism. These terms can be stigmatized because they diverge from “the norm.”

But the truth is that they come with their own gifts. If you, a loved one, or your child has ADHD and you’d like to learn how best to harness these lesser known gifts, then I highly recommend you check out an ebook from my friend Dana Kay called Thriving with ADHD.

It’s filled with natural techniques for navigating ADHD in a world that isn’t totally ready for it - and helping your kids to do the same. As someone with ADHD, I support all of these techniques and can honestly say, they don’t just work for kids… adults too!

High Blood Pressure in 50s Leads to Dementia

Elevated blood pressure in your 50s might raise your risk of developing dementia later in life, a recent European study has found.

People with a systolic blood pressure of 130 or more at age 50 were 45 percent more likely to be struck by dementia than people with lower blood pressure at the same age, researchers reported.

Special: Heart Surgeon's Secret to Healthy Blood Pressure

That means that blood pressure considered on the high end of "normal" actually could do long-term damage to your brain, said study author Jessica Abell. She's a postdoctoral research fellow at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, in Paris.

"There is plenty of evidence to suggest that maintaining a healthy blood pressure in middle age is important for both your heart and your brain later in life," Abell said.

But the study only showed an association between high blood pressure and dementia risk, it didn't prove cause and effect.

Until recently, a systolic blood pressure of 140 had been considered the level at which high blood pressure ("hypertension") began. In fact, that's still the guideline in Europe, Abell noted.

But leading American heart health organizations lowered the high blood pressure threshold to 130 in 2017, based on medical evidence showing that people with blood pressure in the 130-139 range carry a doubled risk of heart attack, stroke, heart failure and kidney failure.

The new U.S. threshold could help protect the brains of the middle-aged, Abell said.

Abell, who is also a research associate in dementia and epidemiology at University College London, and her team tracked the blood pressure and brain health of over 8,600 British civil servants from 1985 onward. The investigators focused specifically on the association between blood pressure and dementia risk at age 50, 60, and 70.

The researchers found that people at age 50 had an increased risk of dementia later in life if their systolic pressure was higher than 130.

Systolic pressure is the pressure in your blood vessels during a heart beat. It is the top number in a blood pressure reading.

According to Abell, the findings did not show an increased risk at age 60 or 70.

High blood pressure has been linked to silent mini-strokes in the brain, damage to the brain's white matter, and restricted blood supply to the brain, she explained.

The researchers "saw an increased risk of dementia for those who had been exposed for longer," Abell said. "Our analysis suggests that the importance of mid-life hypertension on brain health is due to the duration of exposure."

Healthy Diet as Effective as Statins

By Chauncey Crandall, M.D.

A recent advisory issued by the American Heart Association unequivocally states that replacing foods high in saturated fats with those that contain unsaturated fats can reduce a person’s risk of developing heart disease as much as cholesterol-lowering drugs.

Special: Rethink What You Know About Cholesterol & Heart Health

“Saturated fat increases LDL — bad cholesterol — which is a major source of artery-clogging plaque and cardiovascular disease,” says lead author Frank Sacks, M.D., professor of cardiovascular disease prevention at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston.

Saturated fats are found in meat, full-fat dairy products, and tropical oils such as coconut, palm, and others.

Other types of fat include polyunsaturated fats found in corn, soybean, peanut, and other oils and monounsaturated fats found in olive, canola, safflower, avocado, and other oils.

A devotion to your health means much more than the food that you eat and the workouts that you do. Overall health means focusing on your mental health. It’s a major factor to your overall health, arguably the most important. Below, we’ll explore how to care for your mental health by engaging in a creative hobby.

Creativity, and How It Affects Our Mind

Creativity, as a mental health tool, can be extremely effective. There’s a sort of rush you get from finishing a creative project, unparalleled by any other sort of work. Not only is there a rush from the finished product, but the flow state you achieve from the extreme focus given by the work itself is rewarding. In fact, these creative gifts are so wonderful that many people choose to lead their careers in a creative field in order to continuously be rewarded by creativity. People in the creative field tend to have more fulfillment by their work, a sense of meaning in what they do and overall happiness.
But why do we get that rush? And how come engaging in the creative process is so rewarding? Well for one, creativity can be an outlet for self-expression. With many people, most of their time is spent working in an environment that restricts self-expression, thus their creativity and sense-of-self are restricted. By engaging in a creative hobby, you can finally find a release for your self-expression.
Another reason why creativity is rewarding is because it’s hard. Not in the sense that running a triathlon is hard, but the entire process from ideation to creation is a difficult road filled with self-doubt and misery. But these are the very reasons why creativity is worth it, because despite all the reasons not to create, creatives still do. In a bout of defiance, you defy your own self-doubts and get to work creating.
Creativity also demands a lot, forcing the you to use all of their experiences and knowledge in order to create something new. This is why the best creatives are intentional in what they consume and thus consume a lot. This is because everything is and will be inspiration for creatives, they are a sort of hoarder of ideas and themes.

Implementing Creativity

You don’t have to be Picasso in order to weave creativity into your every-day life. A few creative hobbies include (but aren’t restricted to): cooking, writing, videography, photography, music, drawing or painting. Now, these are all activities devoted to creativity and are awesome hobbies to pick up but there is a lot of creative space in your life that can be filled up…
You can get creative with your workouts or regular running/biking route by intentionally choosing a different route or forcing yourself to stick to a certain pace for the whole workout. By challenging yourself to be creative, you’ll start to feel more fulfillment and a general aura of happiness that surrounds you in everything that you do. It’s that same feeling you get after a really good workout, a feeling of accomplishment because you’ve just done something that was really challenging.
So, we urge you all to get out there and get creative. Don’t be afraid to mix things up, to challenge old notions and most importantly, to challenge yourself. To engage in creativity is a sort of dare to yourself, challenging yourself to change old ideas into new and to create.
