Balance​

So, right now I am trying to balance the workload of the week, my family and various other responsibilities that I have. I am thinking through what I need to accomplish and what can wait. This got me thinking about sharing some RANDOM thoughts on keeping life in balance.

Here are a few things that can get out of balance pretty quick and its a good idea to keep an eye on them before they get too far gone.
  • Work/Life: This is a big one for me. I love to build things and I love to work. It's almost a bad thing for me that I love my job so much. Because, I know my tendency to go all in on a project, I need to make more conscious efforts to spend time with family and keep that work/life balance. I do this by planning ahead and setting boundaries.

  • Diet: I am not talking about doing a specific diet like keto, vegan or paleo. I am referring to general intake. Here is what I mean. When I learn about the latest bio-hack or healthy trend. I always remind myself to find the balance. I do my research to see if its a good option for me and instead of rushing in I plan out what I want to do. This curbs my excitement and helps me keep a balanced intake.

  • Pressure: Pressure makes diamonds but it also makes rubble. Finding the balance between putting ourselves in challenging situations to grow and causing unneeded stress is important. It is good to push yourself but not so far that it causes more problems than benefit. Remember to take a break if needed. Getting some quality downtime to reset is good too.

  • Perspective: We are living in some serious times. It seems that the world is more polar than ever before and no matter what you do you are going to offend someone. Be sure to find the good though. Keeping our perspective in balance is MAJOR. Surround yourself with positivity and take the time to dance in your living room if you need to. Remember to have fun and if you just don't think you can... fake it. ;) Even a fake laugh is better than a grumpy heart.
You may have heard the phrase "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" well this goes for keeping things in balance as well. It is much easier to plan ahead and keep things in balance, rather than trying to get things back in balance.

So, as you go about your day, week or month. Looks for ways to keep life in balance.

1/4 cancer deaths NOT from cancer

No… it’s not “the scary germ” Jim. ;)

I’ve learned a few things along the way that have made me question the type of stuff I do and don’t let you know about.

I had no idea so many people were going through horrific cases of eczema and other skin diseases, until we made a video about what we’re going through with our son Rocky and got the flood of responses we did.

Similarly, the heart / cardiovascular system has been coming up over and over for me lately. Until this most recent Anti-Cancer Revolution event, I had no idea what a big factor it is in cancer.

Dr. Jim Roach (top 5 presentations in the event) said good circulation is his second most important goal (peacefulness being first) in cancer patients, as a quarter of all deaths in cancer patients are due to heart attack or stroke, not cancer.

Dr. Jason Miller (top 5 presentations in the event) also spent a ton of time on blood coagulation, saying coagulation systems are activated in cancer, and that cancer patients are 7-10X more likely to experience a thrombotic event.

I just found a 2020 study showing 40% of non-cancer deaths in cancer patients were cardiac related…

And lastly, just the other day, I FINALLY went to see a biological dentist (really good one just moved to Park City and I got introduced, so no more excuses…) to get the conversation started on my cavitations, which I believe are the source of my persistent gut issues despite super clean diet etc.

While I’m very familiar with issues stemming from conventional dentistry being a massive cause of cancer, I had no clue it’s the exact same with heart attacks.

I’d always chalked heart issues up to bad fats, toxicants, too much stress, etc, but apparently just like cancer, it’s those things AND/OR dental issues with heart disease (and sometimes he sees people w both heart and cancer issues clear up just from fixing the dental stuff).

Soooo with all that being said, passing on an event I’d normally say “not for me” on, as it does look to be a very high quality production.

And like I said, if it was just the same old “eat more plants for a healthy heart” type event I wouldn’t be writing this…

but it goes deep into stuff like the dental connection, drug induced nutrient deficiencies, the “real” causes for plaque deposits and high blood pressure…

and of course a whole bunch about what to actually do about all of it. :)

Speaking of what to do, I had pulled up a bunch of notes from Dr.’s Roach & Miller Anti-Cancer Rev presentations, and was going to summarize them here as there’s quite a lot more in terms of things I usually hear about in terms of cancer that are also heart strategies…

But that would make this one of my infamous 1,000 word emails… and already came close to that on Monday….

so perhaps we’ll save that for heart email part 2. ;)

Study: Chinese Food Should Carry Warning Labels

A new analysis of more than 150 Chinese dishes has found many of them contain such high levels of salt they should carry a warning label because they may pose heart risks.

The analysis — by the advocacy group Action on Salt, backed by 25 expert scientific members — found some popular Chinese food dishes are more salty than a Big Mac. The study authors are calling on policymakers to make health labeling mandatory.

Special: Avoid These 8 Foods Drenched in Cancer-Causing Chemicals

The researchers said sweet and sour pork, Kung Pao chicken, Mapo tofu, and other popular dishes sold in supermarkets and at restaurants have such high salt levels they could pose health impacts of "significant concern."

Out of the tested foods, 97% contained a hefty 2 grams of salt or more per dish, while 58% contained more than 3 grams of salt per dish. That’s more than half the daily intake recommended by the World Health Organization.

I often hear a particular question when making herbal medicine.
Essentially, what herbalists are always trying to find out is: "How can I make the best, most powerful herbal medicine?"
They come asking - "what part of the plant should I use? Should it be fresh or should it be dried? What percentage alcohol should I use? Is it better as an infusion or a decoction? What are the chemicals in the plant, and how do I best extract those? "
I think these are really important questions, because we as herbalists do need to know how to make effective, potent remedies that work but also preserve the medicinal virtues of a whole plant. And those questions do get us there - but sometimes a big part can be looked over...
One piece that I think is super important to address here that isn't asked quite as often is the dynamic of intention.
This aspect isn't commonly discussed in standard herbal medicine. But I see this dynamic as such an important and integral part of preparing medicine - because it can really make your remedies more potent than any other on the shelf.
But how do you do this? How do you get yourself into a good place to make your herbal medicine? And how does it have an effect?
As I see it, there are a couple different ways we can get ourselves into a good internal state that's conducive to and helps us make high-quality remedies, and that allows us to make medicine with the best intention possible.
