About Blue Light



Most people would tell you that blue light is “artificial” and yellow light is “natural.” But that’s not really true. Actually, the biggest source of blue light is the sun!



If you remember your science classes from high school, normal sunlight is white. When white light passes through a prism, It splits into a rainbow of colors, or wavelengths. This ranges from ultraviolet (UV) rays to infrared. Blue light is the next step up from UV rays.



Common Places You Can Find Blue Light in the Home



There’s more blue light in your home and workplace than you may think:

  • Laptop screens and computer monitors
  • LED TVs
  • Smartphones
  • Tablets
  • Compact fluorescent or LED lights
The Dangers of Blue Light



Because blue light is so close to UV light on the color spectrum, some scientists wonder if it can damage your eyes. Here are some potential effects that make health experts nervous:

  • Eyestrain
  • Dry eyes
  • Blurry vision
  • Cataracts
  • Macular degeneration (damage to the retina)
Blue light is powerful and very bright, especially up close. The retina doesn’t have a way to shield itself from this wavelength, so intense exposure can lead to permanent vision problems.



Time To Get Rid of Blue Light?



After reading this, you’re probably wondering if you should toss out your high-definition TV or stop using your tablet to read books. Do you need to buy one of those expensive screen filters for blue light? The truth is that you have nothing to worry about.



But wait, didn’t I just say that blue light is dangerous for your eyes? Yes, but only with a powerful light source.



The maximum brightness from electronic gadgets isn’t nearly enough to hurt your retina. Staring at a laptop all day can dry your eyes or cause eye strain, but these are temporary conditions that go away with a little rest.



You should be careful with industrial blue lights, however. These include military-grade flashlights, flood lights, tanning beds, blue lights used for psoriasis treatment and other high-power LEDs.



Benefits of Blue Light



In fact, normal blue light has benefits for your mood and health. Some bright light can help you feel alert in the morning and give you more energy. It can boost your memory and concentration. That’s one reason why I like to go for a short walk if I’m having trouble focusing. Most people feel happier with some daylight shining into the home.



Tips To Protect Your Eye Health



If you're worried about the effect of blue light on your eyes, there are two things you can do. First, give your eyes a rest periodically. Every 20 minutes, take your eyes off the computer screen and grab a glass of water, hug your kids or water your plants. Second, make sure you're getting antioxidants for eye health, such as vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and omega-3s. These nutrients help protect your eyes.

FINDING AND FIXING THE CAUSES OF FIBROMYALGIA SYMPTOMS IS THE KEY TO GETTING HEALTHY AND FEELING GOOD AGAIN.
Fibromyalgia is just a name of a syndrome that has common symptoms associated with the syndrome. It’s a name-it doesn’t cause anything!
There are underlying causes for the symptoms that bring on fibromyalgia. And finding and fixing these underlying issues (causes) is what allows me to the patients who personally work with me, get healthy and feel good again.


Some of your symptoms could be from could be from a missed diagnosed or mistreatment of your thyroid. I see this in perhaps 60-70% of my patients.

Your fatigue, brain fog, diffuse pain, IBS, and low moods could all be triggered or aggravated by a missed low thyroid diagnosis.

It could be that’s why your hair is falling out, you get cold hands and cold feet, tingling in your hands and feet, high cholesterol, it could be causing your anxiety and depression, your dry skin, your unhealthy nails … all those things are low thyroid.

A number of fibro symptoms are due to adrenal fatigue which causes or aggravates, fatigue, chronic pain and inflammation, brain fog, poor sleep, and low moods. Adrenal fatigue is very common in fibromyalgia!

About 50% of my patients have this condition which can cause IBS, constipation, loose bowel movements, stomach pain, food allergies, yeast overgrowth, chronic inflammation and pain.

Are you deficient in brain hormones, serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, or GABA?​

Fibro patients are usually deficient in one or more of these important brain chemicals. Deficiencies can cause chronic pain, low pain threshold, anxiety, depression, poor sleep, brain fog, and insomnia.

There is a down side to suggesting Americans reduce meal size. Some (including me) have such a high metabolism, that we just don't put on the pounds, or fat. In fact, I am still at about the the weight I was when I graduated high school over 35 years ago. Then again, I am also active, and not a couch potato.

Wow! It was an interesting holiday and with the New Year just a day away it is a great time to remind yourself to - Listen To Your Body

Regardless if you had an amazing year or you struggled a bunch, the end of the year often shows us this invisible tallied score of how well we are actually feeling, right around the final weeks. Often we can recognize it because we just start feeling run down. And if you are continuing to struggle with thyroid issues, these feelings may be even more amplified.

Tip #1:

Your body knows what to do, we just have to remember to get out of our own way!

If you are feeling burned out or feel your unresolved thyroid issues are weighing you down - emotionally and physically - stop and listen!

Too often we push through this and that can be a big misstep. It’s time to stop doing what you think you “should” be doing and instead start responding to your body. If your body is tired, here’s your invite to simply rest. Act as if I literally just handed you a prescription and on it says rest. Take it, get it filled and use today!

TIP #2:

Breathe + simple but powerful mantra

Check in with yourself often as we wrap up 2021 and step into 2022 by connecting with your breath with slow, gentle breathing. Pair it with one of my absolutely favorite mantra - “My body knows what to do, My body knows how to heal.”

Repeat this to get grounded and centered, allowing yourself to operate at a peaceful pace where you are not so rushed, stressed and hurried.

Easing the mind allows you to truly listen to your body. When we do, our emotional and physical health soars.

Two More Reasons to Fight Inflammation

Motivational speaker Zig Ziglar said, "Repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment."

If he's right, then you should have vanquished your chronic inflammation — because we sure have repeated the warnings about its dangers. (It fuels cancer, depression, heart disease, gastrointestinal distress, impotence, dementia, and wrinkles.)

But many people still battle it. So here are two more reasons to act now to put out that fire:

Prevent testosterone deficiency. Insufficient testosterone affects 20%-50% of men in the United States. And a recent study in The Journal of Urology found that chronic inflammation, triggered by a diet loaded with sugars and unhealthy fats, is a major cause. In fact, the researchers found that guys who eat such a pro-inflammatory diet are 30% more likely to have testosterone deficiency, compared to men eating an anti-inflammatory diet. And those who eat inflammation-stoking food and have obesity are 60% more likely to contend with it.

Manage complications of atherosclerosis. A study in the journal Nature reveals that inflammation is a culprit linking diabetes, disturbed sleep, an unbalanced microbiome, smoking, and elevated triglycerides and LDL cholesterol to the complications of atherosclerosis, such as heart attacks and strokes. Tamp it down, and you avoid big trouble.

So, one more time, here’s your battle plan. Cool inflammation, lower your risk of heart disease (everyone), and raise your testosterone level (guys) with regular exercise; by ditching sugars, highly processed foods, and red and processed meats; and adopting stress management.

In addition, add plenty of odd omegas, including omega-7 and omega-3 DHA from fish or supplements.
