Women's Sex Drive Linked to Heart Rate

Dr. Erika Schwartz, M.D., writes:

A woman’s heart rate may indicate if she has a low sex drive. A study at the University of Texas found that low heart rate variability (HRV) — the variation in time between heartbeats — is linked to low libido in women.

Those with low HRV are dominated by their sympathetic nervous system — the body’s fight or flight response — which is easily stimulated and stays active constantly. On the other hand, average or high HRV has been associated with healthy hearts and improved blood flow to the genitals.

Researchers analyzed HRV and self-reported information from 72 women ages 18-39 using the Female Sexual Function Index to evaluate their overall sexual functioning. The questionnaire included categories such as pain, satisfaction, and desire.

They found that in addition to overall sexual dysfunction, women with below average HRV were more likely to have difficulties with sexual arousal.

Amelia Stanton, lead author of the study published in Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, told Live Science: “Because evidence shows that low HRV is a potential risk factor for sexual dysfunction, physicians have a simple, low-cost and nonintrusive method to measure a woman’s risk for sexual dysfunction.”

It makes it easier to talk about something a little bit more private and get women the help that they need.

Dr. Erika Schwartz is a leading national expert in wellness, disease prevention, and bioidentical hormone therapies. Dr. Schwartz has written four bestselling books, testified before Congress, hosted her own PBS special on bioidentical hormones, and is a frequent guest on network TV shows.

If you have autoimmunity and aren't doing some form of fasting then you probably should be.

There is a major difference between strategic fasting and caloric restriction and slowly starving oneself.

But done properly, not having an abundant supply of food all the time can really work wonders for the immune system.

True, lots of people with chronic diseases and autoimmunity get reactive hypoglycemic and can't go without eating for long periods of time, but that is one of the first metabolic goals we have we typically have to forget that 'adrenal fatigue' model and realize (for the most part) their ANS and mitochondria just can't even right now.

Once the gates are open and the ability to strategically fast or enter a ketogenic state is doable, then it is probably one of the more effective tools to help with stuff like autoimmunity and allergies.

3 dangerous health myths you need to know about

There’s SO much information out there.

Yet many of us are still so unhealthy. Why?

Myth #1: Fat Is The Devil​

*-- What Makes You Feel Calm? --*

Truthfully, this is one of my go-tos while I'm at work or at home on the go. Writing down a to-do list, then prioritizing all of the tasks on my mind gives me a sense of clarity and focus when I'm feeling stressed.

Candles also seem to be a fan favorite. The ritual of burning candles can be very relaxing and typically citrus and floral fragrances is a great balance of the two. The scent is comforting and tranquil yet allows people to escape.

A lot of people have been leaning towards meditating to help settle down. It seems to be best first thing in the morning or the last thing you do before you go to bed. You can download apps that can provide helpful guidance and encouragement. When your mind is spinning at night, they also offer great guided sleep meditations, too!

Salt lamps are a hit right now. You can keep one on your bedside table or even a small one on your desk at work! Some people say that they instantly feel calmer as soon as they turn the lamp on. There's something about the warm, yellow glow that makes any room way more peaceful.

Jimi, in the days of our great-great-grandparents, it was not uncommon for people to be able to create their own home…

…literally from the ground up!

They also had the skill set to grow their own food, preserve it for the winter, and make practically anything they needed with just a few basic supplies.

If you dropped ME into that time period, I’d starve in a matter of weeks… if a wild animal didn’t get me first.

It's been a busy morning shoveling snow here in Michigan which I was NOT expecting when I woke up. But, I simply treat it as part of my movement practice for the day;)
