Tea Offers Blood Pressure-Lowering Benefits

Researchers have found that certain compounds in black and green tea help relax blood vessels by activating ion channel proteins in the walls of blood vessels.

Two catechin-type flavonoid compounds (epicatechin gallate and epigallocatechin-3-gallate) activate a specific ion channel protein called KCNQ5, which is found in the smooth muscle that lines blood vessels.

Black tea is often mixed with milk. In laboratory tests, the UCI team found that the addition of milk to black tea prevented the beneficial KCNQ5-activating effects of tea.

However, study co-author Geoffrey Abbott, professor in the department of physiology and biophysics in the UCI School of Medicine, said researchers "don't believe this means one needs to avoid milk when drinking tea to take advantage of the beneficial properties of tea."

"We are confident that the environment in the human stomach will separate the catechins from the proteins and other molecules in milk that would otherwise block catechins' beneficial effects," Abbott added.

Previous studies have shown that even when milk is added, tea retains its blood pressure-lowering benefits.

Once In A While A Plant Sneaks Up On You.​

Hops Humulus lupulus snuck up on me just the other day.
...I’d been having the pain for about a week off and on.
I know a nice herbalist that has several things that could have solved that problem but he’s awfully busy and easily distracted and all of the herbs he likes to use are several yards from his desk. So, as I was enjoying the shooting pain down my wrist, that sneaky little rascal Humulus lupulus crept into my mind and barked “So why aren’t you using me for pain?”

*-- Exercise may guard against dementia by lowering insulin, body fat --*​

Exercise may help safeguard your brain as you age, and a new study suggests how this might happen.

Previous research has shown that physical activity helps protect brain cells. This paper indicates it may do that through lower levels of insulin and body fat.

"These results may help us to understand how physical activity affects brain health, which may guide us in developing strategies to prevent or delay age-related decline in memory and thinking skills," said study co-author Geraldine Poisnel, from Inserm Research Center in Caen, France.

The study included 134 people, average age 69, who had no memory problems. They completed questionnaires about their physical activity over the past year.

Researchers also gathered information on the participants' body mass index (BMI -- an estimate of body fat based on weight and height), insulin levels, cholesterol, blood pressure and other health factors.

Brain scans showed that participants with the highest levels of physical activity had a higher total volume of gray matter in their brains (about 550,000 cubic millimeters on average) than people with the least amount of physical activity (about 540,000 cubic millimeters).

When the researchers focused only on areas of the brain that would be affected by Alzheimer's disease, they found similar results.

Those participants who were most active also had a higher average rate of glucose metabolism in the brain than those who were least active. Reduced glucose metabolism in the brain can be seen in people with dementia, according to the study.

The results were published online recently in the journal Neurology.

Higher levels of physical activity were not associated with how much amyloid plaque people had in their brains. Amyloid plaque is a marker for Alzheimer's disease.

"Older adults who are physically active gain cardiovascular benefits, which may result in greater structural brain integrity," Poisnel said in a journal news release.

The study does not prove that exercise protects brain volume, it only shows an association, the authors said, noting further research is needed.

Still, "maintaining a lower BMI through physical activity could help prevent disturbed insulin metabolism that is often seen in aging, thus promoting brain health," Poisnel said.

According to the plan uncovered as part of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, citizens are expected to “do” what is required, such as accept vaccination, to be able to “do” what they intend, such as go to a restaurant. The infrastructure necessary to support such a system for COVID and a whole host of diseases, is currently quietly being built out, with all expenses paid by taxpayers. In fact, during January and February of 2022, the City of Chicago implemented a “Do to Do” requirement. Citizens were required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to participate in a variety of indoor activities including going to the gym, attending a movie or show, or visiting a museum.
The plan coming out of Illinois is being deployed by a for-profit, university-related company called Shield T3, which is owned by the University of Illinois. And as of April 2022, Shield T3 had already incorporated in 20 states. So, if you haven’t heard of Shield T3 and you care about freedom and liberty, this is truly a must-read article.
Shield T3 – T3 standing for Target, Test, and Tell – has a suite of products including: a saliva-based test for COVID-19 called covidSHIELD, a proximity tracing app, a vaccine/health passport app, an agent-based modelling project, and a school-based program called Test to Stay. The SHIELD plan was first implemented at the University of Illinois, which for students felt much more like a prison than a university.
SHIELD’s initial plan is to build testing hubs with a capacity of 100,000 tests per day in the 25 largest U.S. cities and then build mobile labs with a capacity of 10,000 tests per day in the 50 next-largest U.S. cities and at all major universities.
The SHIELD plans are a dangerous gateway to unprecedented intrusions on individual rights and violations of fundamental freedoms and liberty.
Shield T3 and the federal electronic verification system called SHIELD are vehicles for medical tyranny coming in the name of public health. Forcing medical procedures, whether vaccination or drug cocktails, through harsh tactics of coercion, discrimination, and isolation is only possible through a complex and highly detailed real-time electronic surveillance network.
The United States is in negotiations right now with other nations around the world to create a legally binding global pandemic treaty. We need to act now to prevent Americans’ health data from being linked to and exploited by global governance bodies.

Healthy Living Helps Prevent Dementia

Researchers found that older adults with healthy habits had a lower risk of developing dementia versus the less health-conscious — even if a parent or sibling had suffered from the brain disease.

Lifestyle choices did not erase the impact of genes. But among people with a family history of dementia, living well seemed to mitigate the excess risk.

Those who followed at least three of six healthy habits had a roughly 35% lower risk of dementia than their counterparts with less-healthy lifestyles.

Those six healthy habits were:

  • Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, and limiting processed meats and refined grains
  • Getting at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise per week
  • Not smoking
  • Drinking only in moderation
  • Getting six to nine hours of sleep each night
  • Avoiding obesity
"Genes are not everything," said researcher Angelique Brellenthin, an assistant professor of kinesiology at Iowa State University. "You might reduce your risk of dementia by taking relatively simple steps."
