We use our phones for pretty much everything now - entertainment, work, shopping, catching up on the news, and staying connected with friends and family.

While our phones make our lives easier in so many ways, the habit of constantly checking our phones has caused our attention span to decrease significantly.

You have to make a conscious decision to focus on habits that will build your mental stamina.

Remove apps that are too distracting or at least set a time limit on how long you can use those apps.

Use your phone only when you actually need it. Practice mindfulness meditation and give your brain a break from the constant stimulation.

Eat Avocados to Protect Your Heart

Robin (Burt Ward), who was the sidekick to Batman (Adam West) in the 1966-1968 TV series, was known for exclamations such as “Holy guacamole!”

Since then, his avocado-powered expression has become a standard TV trope. It's turned up on “The Muppet Show” when Miss Piggy saw a giant chicken (we don’t know why), and it was also used on the 2007-2015 animated television series “Phineas and Ferb” as a catchphrase for the character Jeremy Johnson, who declares, “Holy guacamole, you sure are a handful!”

But it turns out that avocados, the main ingredient in guacamole, are worth exclaiming about. One-third of a medium-size avocado delivers 10% of the recommended daily values of folate, vitamin K, and copper; 15% of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5); and a good dose of vitamins C, E, niacin, and riboflavin — not to mention the minerals zinc, magnesium, and manganese.

It's also the only fruit that contains heart-healthy monounsaturated fat.

And new studies are revealing additional health benefits from eating avocados. Researchers at Penn State found that eating a moderate-fat diet that includes a daily avocado (that's around 200-300 calories, so substitute it for other food) reduces bad LDL cholesterol — especially the small, dense LDL particles and oxidized LDL that are tied to cardiovascular disease.

A preliminary study conducted on mice at Guelph University in Canada indicates that avocatin B (AvoB), a fat molecule found only in avocados, helps reduce insulin resistance when given as a supplement.

We’re not exactly sure what this study means for people, but it's one more indication that there might be something kind of holy about guacamole.

Over the years, I’ve found that a plant-based diet, much like the one I detail in my book, “The Simple Heart Cure,” makes the most sense — not only for losing weight, but also for keeping it off.

The American Heart Association (AHA) issued a scientific advisory reaffirming the importance of eating fish, especially those rich in omega-3 fatty acids, at least twice weekly.

Studies found eating two 3.5-ounce servings of non-fried fish each week reduces the risk of heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiac arrest, and stroke. All of those ailments become more prevalent with aging.

Salmon, mackerel, herring, lake trout, sardines, and albacore tuna are all high in omega-3 fatty acids.

Such a diet won’t only keep your heart younger, it benefits your brain as well. People who eat a diet rich in vegetables, fruit, nuts, and fish tend to have bigger brains, according to an article in the journal Neurology.

It should be noted that brain volume tends to diminish with aging.

TV's Duane Chapman, aka “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” is a smoker and has numerous health problems, including high blood pressure. When Dr. Oz tested, Dog's reading was 148/97. That’s stage 2 high blood pressure, also called hypertension.

That level calls for remedial action to protect the heart, brain, and kidneys.

According to the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology, more than 100 million adults in the U.S. have hypertension. And even though around 70 million of those folks are taking anti-hypertension meds, more than half still have uncontrolled high blood pressure.

What's missing from their treatment? Lifestyle changes (and the right medication, possibly).

If you have high blood pressure — controlled or not — here's your short course for a longer life:

  • Lose weight if you need to. One pound a week, slow and steady, will do the trick.
  • Reduce sodium intake. And eat 25-30 grams of fiber daily from three to five servings of veggies, two to three servings of fruit, three servings of whole grains, and a handful of walnuts or almonds daily.
  • Cut back on alcohol and caffeine.
  • Exercise 150-plus minutes a week to lower your systolic (top) blood pressure number by 5-8 mmHg. And stay well hydrated.
  • Destress with meditation, breathing exercises, and/or yoga.
  • If you smoke, take action to quit.
If you're taking a high blood pressure medication, ask your doctor if you might do better with a different one. There are more than 150 to choose from. You can find one that, with these lifestyle changes, is right for you.

I have posted a lot on cooking oils but all I can tell you is they are somewhere in here, wish I could help but maybe I can shed some light on this subject for you.
Here's my take
The problem with many oils is the processing chemicals used more than the seed (sunflower and peanut oils). Also the temperature they are processed at make some oils more volatile to the human system. (They cause inflammation through out the body)
They say One French fry fried in bad oils is as bad as smoking one cigarette, how many French Fries do you eat in a meal.
Honestly all Fried foods eat away at your health, even frying a hamburger.
I hope this helps you, they explain it so much better than I can on the cancer summits which I have been posting live links for. (Links are only live for 24 hours)
They were talking about oils on the Stop Cancer Summit, you, and everyone here should watch it, so much info.
Oh and I have been posting live links to it so members here don't have to register. Gonna do that for the breathwork summit too, every vaper should watch it and on my links they won't haveta register.

Here is another question I've been meaning to ask you.

There is a lot of cassava in the current commercial market, in all kinds of foods, including the cauliflower pretzel sticks I like (cassava and cauliflower). That's the only cassava product I buy. I wouldn't have ever tried it if I'd known it contained cassava, but I got a free sample and started munching before I realized what was in it. It was addictively delicious and very low in calories, didn't kill me, so I keep buying it now.

I first learned about cassava a long time ago in a book about Africa. I read it was a staple in countries that experience drought and famine, because it grows easily and is drought resistant. I also read it is very poisonous, and has to be extensively treated to remove the poison. Even then, it sometimes is not treated properly enough to keep it from being toxic.

What are your thoughts? Is cassava to be avoided due to the potential for cyanide poisoning, or are you confident in the commercial products on the US market?

Honestly I wouldn't eat it. There are so many toxins that one is exposed to on a daily basis so why take a chance. And "NO", I sure don't put any trust in the commercial products and tell everyone it's a travel at your own risk. I have seen so many talks on how deceptive Big Food is, the truth to be known they only check about 5% of these claims:mad:.
