Caring about your appearance is not vanity. There's nothing wrong with wanting to look nice and presentable.

When you look good, you feel good. Taking time to exercise, and grooming yourself can boost your confidence and self-image.

Simple self-care or grooming rituals can make a huge difference in your mood on dull days. Show your body some love.

Obviously, we must practice self-awareness to keep ourselves from making a big deal out of our looks or unfairly judging others on their appearance.

Your looks are only one part of who you are. It's important to strike a balance between different aspects of your well-being.

When you replace meat with whole-food plant-based alternatives, the following heart-healthy changes can follow:

  1. A Decrease in Cholesterol
    Swapping animal products for plant-based foods definitely means you’ll be getting more fiber, which is fantastic! Among other wonderful things, fiber lowers cholesterol and detoxifies your body, which your heart loves.

  2. A Healthier Gut
    Many people don’t realize that a happy gut equals a happy heart, as well. In fact, fiber-rich plant-based foods promote a healthy gut (microbiome). This “good” gut bacteria helps your heart by keeping your arteries free of bad cholesterols, as well as keeping your blood vessels healthy.

  3. A Decrease in Inflammation
    There is a LOT of evidence that shows meat to be pro-inflammatory (meaning it causes inflammation in our bodies). This is also connected to the high amounts of saturated fat in meat. But plants can actually reduce inflammation. Experts believe this is because plants are so high in detoxifying antioxidants.
These are all great health benefits. So to answer the question…

Does eating less meat REALLY lower your risk of heart disease? YES! It certainly seems that science backs that up.

However, when it comes to heart health, there are many myths and misunderstandings out there.

Work Stress Linked to AFib

European research has found that having a stressful job could increase the risk of developing atrial fibrillation (AFib), a heart rhythm irregularity also known as heart flutter which can lead to stroke, heart failure, and other serious health conditions.

Carried out by researchers at the School of Health and Welfare, Jönköping University, Sweden, the study looked at 13,200 participants who were all employed and had no history of atrial fibrillation, heart attack, or heart failure.

Participants were asked to answer five questions on their job demands and six questions on how much control they had in their job. Questions included: Do you have to work very hard or very fast? Are there conflicting demands in your work? Do you have enough time to complete your work tasks? Does your work include a lot of repetition? Can you decide how and what to do at work?

Special: These 4 Things Happen Right Before a Heart Attack

Work stress, or job strain, refers to jobs which are psychologically demanding but give employees little control over the work situation. Examples include assembly line workers, bus drivers, secretaries, and nurses. Participants were also asked to complete surveys on socio-demographics, i.e., lifestyle, health, and other work-related factors.

During a median follow-up of 5.7 years, the researchers identified 145 cases of atrial fibrillation using national registers. After taking into account other potentially influencing factors such as age, sex, smoking status, physical activity, BMI, and high blood pressure, the results showed that being stressed at work was associated with a 48% higher risk of atrial fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation is the most common heart rhythm disorder. Symptoms include palpitations, weakness, fatigue, lightheadedness, dizziness, and shortness of breath. The condition also causes 20%-30% of all strokes and increases the risk of dying prematurely.

American Wheat Contains More Gluten

There’s a well known Julia Child story about her trying to make French-style bread with American flour...

Despite her expertise, she failed.

Why? Because the gluten content was simply too high in the American stuff.

See, the majority of wheat grown in Europe is soft wheat, which is naturally lower in gluten.

The majority of wheat grown in America is hard red wheat, which has been modified over the years to be high in gluten…

(Nearly 2x as much as pre-21st century wheat!)

This is why you can eat the occasional bread or pasta overseas with less discomfort.
