It is easy to feel grateful when things are going well in our lives. But what about those challenging times, when nothing is going right — do you appreciate your abundance?

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, it is important to recognize that feeling grateful — no matter what is happening in your life — offers countless health benefits.

When you actively cultivate gratitude and take time for self-care practices such as meditation, you open yourself up to true healing. You also expand your heart, increasing your innate love and compassion for yourself and others.

Modern-day research on the complex relationship between mind and body backs up what spiritual experts have known for millennia. For example, studies show that thoughts and feelings of gratitude bring about significant health benefits, including lowered stress hormones.

And other studies reveal that regular meditation reduces inflammation, improves immunity, and strengthens areas of the brain related to empathy and emotional processing, among other benefits.

Conversely, studies show that feelings of pessimism and negativity fuel inflammation, harm DNA, speed up the aging process, and increase the risks of chronic diseases.

Innately, we know these findings to be true. How do you feel physically when you experience negative emotions, compared to feelings of gratitude, love, and compassion? The differences are obvious. Nevertheless, many of us remain prone to cycles of anxiety and negative thought patterns, dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.

When life feels overwhelming — often made all the worse by the added pressures and stress of the holiday season — it can be easy to fall into negative thought patterns and ignore the positivity around you. But feeling grateful is more than being positive. It is about being honest and authentic, and finding joy in the little things, despite the chaos in life.

If you are battling extra stress this holiday season, it is essential to find time to yourself and home in on your feelings, emotions, and find peace in meditation or a walk to recenter and balance yourself.

Making space to feel grateful is important for your whole family. When we overflow our cups with unconditional love, gratitude, and compassion for all beings, we effortlessly offer this healing energy to ourselves and everyone around us.

Writing down three things you are grateful for each day can be a daily spiritual practice that helps you review your life from a grateful heart, while helping your mind, body, and spirit heal on every level.

Top 3 skincare rules - do you follow all of them?
Did you know that your skin literally eats what you apply to it? 😲

That means, if your skincare product is full of toxins, your skin will absorb them… then they’ll go straight to your bloodstream.

Yikes! 😬😬😬

These toxins can make you more prone to disease and leave nasty side effects like advanced aging and fatigue.

And this is why I’m hyper-vigilant about the ingredients that I put on my skin.

To avoid these toxin-caused problems, here are 3 rules that I live by:

🏷 Rule #1 - Check the labels. What’s in it?

Look very closely at the ingredient labels to make sure the ingredients are truly organic, natural, and safe.

Some of the best ingredients for your healthy, youngest-looking skin, for example, are maple leaf extracts… vitamin C rich ingredients such as Indian gooseberry (a.k.a. amla) and mango seed butter… and astaxanthin sourced from red algae.

Do you feel like the label sounds like reading the periodic table of elements with all the chemical names? Don’t buy it!

And if you’re shopping online and it doesn’t share all the ingredients on the page? Don’t buy it either.

➡️ Rule #2 - Only choose products that are USDA Certified Organic (or your country’s equivalent).

Never get bamboozled by a product that simply calls itself natural, wild-crafted, "paraben-free" or organic in its marketing.

That could mean a single organic ingredient amidst a sea of synthetic and toxic ingredients!

Make certain, instead, that the product has been strictly and independently verified as organic, such as USDA Certified Organic in the U.S.

Bottom line – if it doesn’t show USDA Certified Organic on the label (or equivalent certifications, such as ECOCert in Europe and other countries) there’s a reason!

When a product is USDA Certified Organic, it means that:

✅ It contains at least 95% truly clean, organic ingredients

✅ Even the other 5% of ingredients are on an approved safe list
✅ It’s free of potentially toxic ingredients so often used in other cosmetics that may be carcinogenic, may disrupt the endocrine system, and cause other issues

✅ The ingredients used are even farmed organically, meaning it is free of pesticides, chemical fertilisers, petrochemicals, and dyes
✅ No industrial solvents or irradiation were used during the manufacturing process.
✅ It is free of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs)

🍁 Rule #3 - It’s not just about Collagen.

Collagen has gotten a lot of attention and it is a critical component of healthy, young-looking skin.

But just like the food you eat...

Your skin needs a range of nutrients to look its best and protect you from toxins and disease.

Elastin, like collagen, is another natural protein in your body. The loss of it leads to skin that looks wrinkled, loose, and otherwise "old."
