There's a distinct difference between VU and the other vaping forum. I had to log out of the other one after a few minutes.

"Oh I thought I had a cold but it turned out I had Covid".
'Oh be sure to go to the doctor"
"Oh I hope it doesn't get too bad!"

"Mom has Covid, we're staying away from her".

Gawd, give me a break.

An upper respiratory infection is probably going to be a coronavirus of some kind, since there are thousands of different ones and they have always been around, but boy were we successfully taught fear and panic in 2020-21, as if any kind of winter illness is a reason to strap on a mask, choke off your breathing, worry worry worry, as if we can't expect our own time honored de-toxing process of winter colds and flu, as if it weren't nature's way of telling us to use the down time of the year to take time for ourselves, as if we're not supposed to ever expect to have a winter sniffle or sneeze.

Spicy Veggie Ramen
(full recipe in this email below)
Hungry for something savory and satisfying this New Year's Eve?

Skip takeout and make this spicy and filling soup that is ready to eat in no time!

Chock full of vegetables, this nutrient-dense soup will also help you get your vitamins and other nutritional needs.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cloves garlic chopped
  • 3" thumb ginger approximately 2 tbsp
  • 1/2 medium onion sliced
  • 2 cups low-sodium vegetable broth plus extra for sauté
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 oz mushroom any variety, sliced
  • 2 tsp white or yellow miso
  • 2 oz dry ramen noodles
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • 1 tbsp sriracha or to your taste
  • 1 head bok choy with leaves separated
  • 1/2 medium carrot or about 1/4 cup grated carrot
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste optional
Directions:
  1. In a pan heat 1 Tbsp of veggie broth and sauté the onion and garlic for 3 minutes.
  2. Add the mushrooms and additional broth as needed. Sauté for 5 more minutes until onions and mushrooms start to carmelize.
  3. Add ginger, broth, soy sauce, miso, green onions, and sriracha. Cook for 1 minute. If using tomato paste, add it now.
  4. Cook the ramen noodles according to the package.
  5. Meanwhile, add the bok choy to the soup and let the bok choy wilt.
  6. Once the noodles are cooked, drain them and place the noodles in a bowl. Pour the soup over the noodles and top with grated carrots and enjoy!
NOTE:Increase or decrease the sriracha to your taste.

I'm not saying a winter illness will never be hard, like you had. I'm just saying we've forgotten it's normal, but I think you understand.

I take cod liver oil every day of the year, plenty of it. It has naturally occurring vitamin D (but you have to be careful which kind you buy because some of it has synthetic D added, cholecalciferol, bad stuff). I've been taking the high quality kind since I had a horrendous eczema attack in 2018 because it stopped it immediately, and healed my skin. I think it makes any kind of winter sniffle more mild. In hotels in northern European countries, Scandinavia and Iceland, they put cod liver oil and shot glasses for it on the breakfast buffet right next to the orange juice. It's a tradition there for everybody.

As 2022 comes to an end, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the events of the past year. It’s a time to celebrate your victories and rejoice in your successes.

It's also time to be honest with yourself about your shortcomings.

But don't beat yourself up. That's not useful.

Mistakes teach us what not to do. And make us wiser.

But people who don't learn from their mistakes don't grow.

They stay stuck in unhealthy patterns of behavior.

The same applies to people who think they know it all and don't make time to learn from others.

That’s why I take the time to interview survivors, doctors and experts and share them with you. I'm still learning and growing, and I hope you are too. :)

High Blood Pressure Diagnosis Can Be Tricky

Back in 1982 Billy Joel wrote: “Two men out and three men on/ Nowhere to look but inside/ Where we all respond to PRESSURE.”

That’s how it can feel when you’re sitting in the doctor’s office waiting for a blood pressure test.

For many, when the doc takes their BP, it soars, and it turns out that has serious consequences.

Special: Heart Surgeon's Secret to Healthy Blood Pressure

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force says that between 15% and 30% of people who are told they have high blood pressure after an in-office “cuff on arm” test do NOT experience hypertension in their day-to-day life.

As a result, people are given unnecessary medication! (And many more who really have it don’t get tested or treated!)

The best way to diagnose high BP, says the USPSTF, is to follow up an in-office test with an ambulatory monitor that you wear for 24 to 48 hours. Every 30 minutes, it assesses your BP — even while you’re sleeping. Then, a reliable diagnosis can be made.

You want to know (and get treated) if your BP is elevated.

High BP causes strokes, heart attack, cognitive decline, and kidney disease. Even if you only have mild hypertension (140 to 159/90 to 99 mmHg) and no overt cardiovascular disease, taking antihypertensive drugs reduces your risk by more than 80%; you also can get your BP down with healthy lifestyle changes.

Sometimes it’s best to do both.

So like Billy Joel said, “You have to learn to pace yourself . . . You’re just like everybody else — pressure.”

AstraZeneca study finds vector DNA in the sciatic nerve, bone marrow, liver, lungs, and spleen of vaccinated mice.


Because AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine is not licensed in the United States, all documents within the FDA’s possession concerning this vaccine are exempt from disclosure. This means that anyone who received an AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine cannot – and might not ever be able to – access any of the data concerning the vaccine from the US government.

Not satisfied by this complete lack of transparency, ICAN, through its attorneys, submitted an information request to the United Kingdom’s FDA equivalent – the Medicines and Healthcare Products Registry Agency (MHRA) -- in April 2022 seeking information relating to its authorization of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, as well as that relating to its authorization of the Janssen, Moderna, and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines.

MHRA’s initial response was to threaten to deny ICAN’s request but, after ICAN pushed back and, in the case of the AstraZeneca vaccine, narrowed the scope of the request to seven specific items related to safety testing, MHRA dropped its objection. MHRA recently provided 166 pages of records containing the studies MHRA relied on to authorize AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine.

One of these studies investigated biodistribution of the AstraZeneca vaccine, meaning where it goes in the body after injection, in mice. This study revealed that the viral vector DNA did not remain localized in the injection site but instead migrated to other organs. Disturbingly, the study found vector DNA in the sciatic nerves, bone marrow, livers, lungs, and spleens of the mice following vaccination.

The study documents further revealed that, in early 2021, AstraZeneca was forced to amend its data sheet for the vaccine after concluding that there may have been a causal association between the vaccine and serious hypersensitivity including anaphylaxis.

Another perhaps unsurprising revelation was the inclusion of disclaimer that a number of vulnerable populations, such as pregnant and lactating women and immunocompromised persons, were excluded from pre-market human safety studies. In its Marketing Authorization Application, AstraZeneca stated that because these populations were excluded from the studies, the safety of the vaccine in these groups was unknown. This also led the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) to recommend against the AstraZeneca vaccine for pregnant women – a sentiment that was echoed in the UK’s vaccination schedule guide, commonly referred to as the “Green Book.”

A final shocking revelation in the documents was the heavily redacted discussion of two individuals who developed serious immune-mediated neurological demyelinating conditions following vaccination. Although it states there was “no evidence suggesting a causal relationship” between the vaccine and these events, the UK’s clinical overview conceded that “vaccinations could be associated with immune-mediated neurological conditions” and therefore these adverse events were included as an important potential risk in the vaccine’s risk management plan.

In the coming weeks, MHRA is expected to produce additional documents regarding its authorization of the other COVID-19 vaccines.
