Trauma, Methylation, the Mind, and Aging
Psychospiritual trauma has profound impacts on human biology.
For example, trauma
heavily impacts methylation.
Methylation is the process of adding a tiny molecule called a "methyl group" to any other molecule.
The body uses methylation in many processes. including the
regulation of neurotransmitters, a fundamental influence to how you think and feel.
Unfortunately, trauma impairs methylation in several ways.
Trauma
promotes oxidative stress (excess "free radicals"), which directly impairs enzymes in the methylation cycle.
Trauma
impairs immune function, which leads to chronic inflammation and oxidative stress, which impairs enzymes in the methylation cycle.
Trauma can
cause the limbic system in the brain to become hypervigilant, which drives more stress, oxidative stress, and impairment of methylation.
And trauma can
cause the body to get stuck in the "Cell Danger Response", which promotes oxidative stress and reduces methylation.
So even if you have "perfect methylation genes", trauma can mess up your methylation.
Toxicity, chronic infection, serious injuries, and other stressors can also mess up your methylation.
Anything that gives you chronic stress can dysregulate methylation, with cascading effects around the body and mind.
The mind is heaviy influenced by methylation because methylation is involved in neurotransmitter metabolism.
For the purpose of this discussion, the "mind" is defined here as
the totality of mental and emotional states and traits.
One methylation pattern can contribute to states and traits like ..
- Feeling Overwhelmed
- Difficulty ignoring negative thoughts (ruminating)
- Perfectionism
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Obsessive / compulsive tendencies
Another methylation pattern can contribute to states and traits like ...
- Distractibility / Difficulty focussing
- Impulsivity
- High anxiety or panic tendency
- Hyperactivity
- Paranoia
- Obsessions without compulsions
These states and traits are largely driven by neurotransmitter patterns, which are heavily influenced by trauma, methylation patterns, nutrient deficiencies, ratios of certain minerals, oxidative stress, inflammation, gastrointestinal dysfunction, chronic infections, impaired detoxification, and other factors.
In general, the states and traits listed above do not promote health. They tend to promote stress and thereby accelerate the aging process.
So creating more peace in the mind is an essential strategy for health optimization and slowing the aging process.
This often requires mapping your methylation patterns, balancing your biochemistry, and releasing trauma.
These are some of the things that we do in the
Bio-Individual Blueprint and the
Age Reversal Academy programs.
So if you would like to ..
- Balance your mind and body
- Release trauma
- Slow the aging process
... and do it all in a way that is customized to your unique biology, your bio-individuality ...
