Gut Health-Damaging Habits to Kick as You Age​

Portobello Mushroom Tacos with Cashew Queso
(full recipe in this email below)
Ingredients:
Mushroom Marinade

  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tbsp liquid smoke
  • 1/2 tsp low-sodium Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp ground mustard
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 lime's juice
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium vegetable broth
  • 4 large portobello mushroom caps stems and gills removed, sliced
Queso Sauce
  • 1 clove garlic roughly chopped
  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 large potato peeled, cooked and rough chopped
  • 1 tbsp raw cashew
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1-2 tbsp low-sodium vegetable broth
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp sriracha hot chili sauce
  • 1 cup carrots grated
Taco Filling
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium vegetable broth
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 1/2 each red, green, yellow and orange bell peppers cut into strips
  • 1 1/2 cup black beans
  • 4 large romaine lettuce leaves
  • 2 cups carrots grated and divided
  • 2 cups romaine lettuce chopped
Directions:
  1. Cook the potato and set aside to cool.
  2. In a small bowl soak the raw cashew in ¼ cup of hot water for 5 minutes.
  3. To make the marinade, in a bowl combine the garlic, soy sauce, liquid smoke, worcestershire sauce, black pepper, mustard, chili powder, cumin, lime juice, and ¼ cup of vegetable broth. Add the sliced mushrooms and carefully turn over the mushrooms to coat, cover and set aside to marinade for 30 minutes.
  4. To make the queso, put the cooled potatoes, garlic, nutritional yeast, the soaked cashew plus water used for soaking, chili powder, cumin, sriracha sauce and 1 cup of grated carrots in a small blender container and blend until smooth. Add water or more vegetable broth as needed to attain the desired consistency.
  5. In a large pan heat ¼ cup of vegetable broth and sauté the onion and garlic for 5 minutes. Add the peppers, beans and marinated mushrooms along with a little bit of the marinade (add more if you wish) and continue to cook for another 5 to 8 minutes or until the peppers are soft and the mushrooms are cooked.
  6. With the two large lettuce leaves on each plate, divide the mushroom mixture. Top mixture with chopped lettuce, grated carrots, and the Queso sauce. Fold the lettuce leaves and eat!
Note: If you wish, add extra toppings such as a sprinkle of vegan cheese, other vegetables such as spinach, radishes, etc.

Movement Can Add Years to Your Life

Several studies have linked extended periods spent sitting down and/or watching TV to poor health, including diabetes and death from heart disease and stroke.

To investigate further, researchers looked at data collected for the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to calculate the amount of time American adults spent watching TV and sitting down on a daily basis.

Special: Doctors Witness Amazing Joint Pain Changes

They then scoured medical research studies, pooling the data from five relevant studies involving 167,000 adults to precisely calculate how inactivity correlates with lifespan.

The results, published in the online journal BMJ Open, found that limiting the amount of time spent sitting down to under three hours a day would add an extra two years to life expectancy.

Not only that, but restricting time spent watching TV to under two hours daily would extend life expectancy by an extra 1.38 years.

Researchers believe the reason why sitting too much has been linked to diseases and early death could be due to weight gain because of inactivity, which can lead to risk factors for heart attack, stroke, hypertension, and unhealthy blood sugar levels.

Have you ever heard the phrase “as above, so below” before?

It’s a pretty common saying from the western mystery traditions, alchemy and astrology, but what does it really mean?

This central tenet in alchemical philosophy means that there is an underlying order and pattern to life, and that everything exists within interconnected patterns. That each part (like a person or a plant) contains the pattern of the whole universe.

This teaching totally changed the way I viewed life, including people, plants, and nature as a whole.

When I absorbed what this really means, I stopped paying attention to just my clients’ physical symptoms and began to look deeper. The more I did that, the easier it became to notice the underlying patterns of imbalance that led to them feeling unwell.















By using herbs to absolve the root cause instead of just lessening symptoms, I saw a huge improvement in the efficacy of my practice, and my clients started feeling better than they even thought possible.

This story isn’t just about me though—you can develop the skills needed to achieve transformational healing by learning about the healing Power of Alchemy and Herbalism.

Some of us don't even think about some areas of our health until they become subpar. Until we are diagnosed with obesity, we do not prioritize our daily steps and activity.
