It may sound like a contradiction using the words “healthy” and “thanksgiving” together, but hear me out!

There are several things you can do to make your Thanksgiving celebration healthier...

  1. Don’t skip your daily green drink (and breakfast): You don’t want to show up to the Thanksgiving table ravenous, because then you’ll eat everything in sight! Make sure to start your day with a green drink and breakfast to give yourself a healthy energy boost that will remind you that your health comes first.
  2. Seek out raw food first. Fill up your plate with raw veggies and salad first. You’ll still have room for more delicious goodies later!
  3. Cut out the alcohol (or keep it limited). If you want to have a festive drink, bring along your own bottle of organic wine. Have just one glass and then replace it with sparkling water and lime the second time around.
  4. Cap off the night with some ginger tea. Ginger can counteract any inflammation, and is effective in calming the stomach and aiding in digestion.
  5. Relieve stress. If you are feeling super stressed out, your cortisol levels can skyrocket causing your body hold onto weight (particularly in the waist). Do some yoga, meditation, or take a long walk either before or after your meal.
  6. Bring healthier versions of your Thanksgiving favorites. Of course you should never show up to a dinner empty-handed, so use this rule to your advantage and bring along a healthy holiday dish (or a few). This will give you the option of eating at least one healthy item, and lets you share a delicious real food dish with your family!

One of the the things I love to do after Thanksgiving is make a big pot of soup. It’s easy, inexpensive, and is a great way to use of up some of the leftover veggies and turkey you might have.

A great one to try from Food Babe Family is Ginger Chicken Soup, which you can easily make with leftover turkey instead. Simply omit the chicken and add shredded cooked turkey while the soup is simmering. It’s cozy, healing, and works perfectly with shredded turkey instead of chicken. The ginger, broth, and veggies make it feel like a warm blanket — exactly what everyone needs after a big holiday meal.

I was eating dinner with a couple good friends recently... We were eating chicken legs (pasture-raised and organic) from the grill, and one of my friends noticed me eating the skin, and he said something along the lines of...

3 Supplement Industry “Truths”
Almost Nobody Knows


Once you know them, you can spot bad products instantly.
1. “Clinically Studied Ingredient” Doesn’t Mean Their Product Was Studied

Brands love to say an ingredient has clinical research, but the study was usually done on a very specific form, purity, or extraction method you’re not getting.

In many cases, the bottle contains a cheap version that has none of the proven effects.

Takeaway: If a brand talks about studies, look for the words “This formula / this exact extract was used in the study.” If they can’t say that? The research doesn’t apply.

2. Proprietary Blends Are Usually a Cover for Underdosing

Certain manufacturers use “proprietary blend” to sound fancy.

But most of the time, it’s code for: “We don’t want to tell you the real dose because you’d stop buying.”

Companies can legally hide micro-doses of expensive ingredients under a big blend number so it looks impressive.

Takeaway: If the label hides individual ingredient amounts, assume the active ones are dusted in. Avoid it.

3. High MG = High Quality? Not Even Close.

One of the biggest industry tricks is pumping up the milligrams to make the label look strong…

…even when the purity, structure, or source makes those milligrams meaningless.

This is especially true for things like mushrooms, plant extracts, and immune-support compounds.

Takeaway: MG doesn’t matter nearly as much as standardization, purity, and the specific form of the ingredient. A clean 100 mg can beat a dirty 1000 mg every time.

TAKE ACTION

Serious Food Safety Concerns if ‘Better Food Disclosure Act’ Passes​

We just scored a win in Congress against the junk food industry!

Corporate front-group Americans for Ingredient Transparency—representing the biggest manufacturers of ultraprocessed Frankenfoods from Pepsi Co. on down—wants to take away states’ rights to ban toxic food ingredients.

They secured the support of Senator Rodger Marshall, Republican of Kansas, to draft a bill misleadingly named the “Better Food Disclosure Act” with a provision that would have taken away states’ rights to do things like ban food dyes or get ultraprocessed foods out of school meals. This proved so unpopular that he had to remove that provision!

This is a significant victory but his bill still has several major problematic issues.

Although this is a step in the right direction, we must continue to fight this bill because even without that provision, there would still be insufficient ingredient oversight and lack of transparency, which could cause major misinterpretation and confusion in labels as well as create complicated challenges for food manufacturers.

The bill would still cement a loophole used by the Food & Drug Administration known as “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) to make sure ingredients like lab-grown animal cells, genetically modified organisms, and synthetic chemicals continue to get approved quickly and without review. The GRAS Process allows food companies to declare a substance safe for consumption without notifying the FDA, allowing potentially dangerous substances to enter our food system with no oversight.

The junk food industry is backing Marshall’s ‘Better Food Disclosure Act’ bill to block Representative Frank Pallone’s “Grocery Reform and Safety Act”, which aims to close the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) loophole.

Please help us get the message to Congress to pass the “Grocery Reform and Safety Act”! Closing the GRAS loophole is also something Health & Human Services Sec. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., can and has promised to do. So far, RFK, Jr. hasn’t taken action on this and if issue is left to Congress, Marshall’s harmful bill is more likely to pass than Palone’s beneficial one so we need to keep the pressure on.

TAKE ACTION: Tell Congress to pass the Grocery Reform and Safety Act, not the misleading named “Better Food Disclosure Act”!

BAN TOXIC PFAS

EPA Approves Its Second ‘Forever Chemical’ Pesticide in Two Weeks​

The Center for Biological Diversity, Press Release:

“WASHINGTON— The Environmental Protection Agency today approved the highly persistent pesticide isocycloseram for golf courses, lawns and food crops such as oranges, tomatoes, almonds, peas, and oats. The pesticide is a ‘forever chemical’ — one of a group called PFAS, or perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

Today’s announcement marks the second approval of a PFAS pesticide since Trump took office, with the first approval coming just two weeks before. The administration plans to approve three more PFAS pesticides in the coming year.

‘To approve more PFAS pesticides amid the growing awareness of the serious, long-term dangers from these forever chemicals is absurdly shortsighted,’ said Nathan Donley, environmental health science director at the Center for Biological Diversity.”

Protect Our Health and Reform Food Policy​

We have a choice to make, a bill to defeat and one to pass!

A new bill, the “Better Food Disclosure Act,” might sound good on paper, but it’s actually a Trojan horse. Backed by the junk food industry, this bill would keep toxic loopholes intact, allowing potentially dangerous substances to slip into our food supply without proper oversight.

The biggest culprit? The “Generally Recognized as Safe” (GRAS) loophole, which lets food companies decide what’s safe for us without FDA review. Imagine lab-grown animal cells, GMOs, and synthetic chemicals entering our food system with no checks or balances. Scary, right?

But there’s hope. Representative Frank Pallone’s “Grocery Reform and Safety Act” would close the GRAS loophole and ensure our food is safer. We need to get the message to Congress: pass the Grocery Reform and Safety Act and reject the “Better Food Disclosure Act”! The stakes are high. Health & Human Services Sec. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. has promised to close the GRAS loophole, but so far, no action.

Fungi might replace parts of the machines that shape our digital world. The idea sounds strange until you realize how intelligent and resilient these organisms are.

At The Ohio State University, researchers found that edible mushrooms such as shiitake could act like organic memory chips. When connected to circuits, the mushrooms stored and processed information like a living brain.

Study lead author John LaRocco is a research scientist in psychiatry at Ohio State’s College of Medicine. ‘Being able to develop microchips that mimic actual neural activity means you don’t need a lot of power for standby or when the machine isn’t being used,’ said LaRocco. The fungal chips performed surprisingly well. Each could switch electrical states thousands of times per second with high accuracy.”

“Supply and worker shortages and an increase in home canning in 2020 and 2021 brought new or unfamiliar brands of canning jars and lids to fulfill consumer needs. What should consumers know about the various products?

There are countless sources for canning lids and it appears that most are made in China. It is not possible to find reliable information for the no-name brands; reviewer’s comments indicate that lid failure is a problem. Counterfeit lids are still being sold so it is definitely a ‘buyer beware’ canning market. While the cost will be higher, supplies are predicted to keep up with demand in 2022.

The USDA, National Center for Home Food Preservation (NCHFP), Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, or AnswerLine do not recommend for (or against) any of these products. The current recommendation is to use the tested two-piece metal lid system that has been the norm for many years and Mason jars specifically made for the rigors of canning.”

Kennedy Instructs CDC to Change its Position on Vaccines and Autism​

On November 19, the CDC, under instructions from HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., changed its long-held position that vaccines don’t cause autism to the view that there’s a possibility that vaccines can in fact cause autism.
The announcement included a dig at previous CDC studies that had found no causal relationship between being vaccinated and developing autism. Kennedy said such studies did not come from “evidence-based” science.
Following Kennedy’s guidance, the CDC updated its website.
As he promised earlier in the year, Kennedy and the CDC also made it clear that they’re doing a deep dive into the causes of autism and that the science is not settled.
The response of the old guard public health establishment and legacy media was predictable.
The cognoscenti of vaccinology went berserk.

Forgotten Wonders of Pycnogenol

Dr. Russell Blaylock, M.D., writes:

When pycnogenol (French maritime pine bark extract) first appeared on the natural health market, it caused a lot of excitement. But it has been mostly forgotten.

That’s unfortunate, because it has a number of incredible health benefits. For example, in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 101 patients ages 60-85 were given either a placebo or 150 mg of pycnogenol for three months as a possible way to prevent and treat a decline in cognitive function. Researchers tested attention, working memory, episodic memory, and psychomotor performance. They found a significant improvement in working memory (which we use every day) and a dramatic decrease in lipid peroxidation products in those taking pycnogenol supplements.

Vascular diseases affecting the retina are quite common and can lead to blindness. In another study, researchers tested 40 patients with diabetes, atherosclerosis, or other vascular diseases and found that the 30 they treated with 50 mg of pycnogenol three times a day for two months not only demonstrated no deterioration, but also showed significant improvement in visual acuity. The patients who got a placebo continued to deteriorate.

The researchers also conducted special testing (fluorangiography and electroretinogram) that demonstrated objective improvement in retinal vascularization and function within the treatment group.

Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness in the United States. The primary damage occurs in microscopic blood vessels in the retina (called diabetic microangiopathy). Another study used older patients with advanced diabetic complications. The subjects were given 50 mg of pycnogenol three times a day for four weeks. After a month, they saw a significant improvement of microangiopathy, with a significant decrease in leakage of the vessels — a major cause of retinal damage and blindness.

In another study, researchers found that pycnogenol supplementation could significantly improve healing of diabetic ulcers, which can be very difficult to mend. The ulcers healed completely in 89% of the patients within six weeks. One use of pycnogenol is for treatment of vein problems of the legs that can cause swelling and eventual development of leg ulcers, which are difficult to heal. Patients taking pycnogenol saw reduced swelling of their legs and a significant reduction in venous leakage, which also prevented ulcerations.

Pycnogenol has also been very effective for preventing venous thrombosis in people who fly long distances. Pycnogenol increases nitric oxide production, but only in blood vessels, thereby improving blood flow. (Hesperidin also selectively increases blood vessel nitric oxide.) In addition, pycnogenol lowers elevated blood pressure when taken for 12 weeks.

Another beneficial effect is its ability to lower histamine levels, which reduces allergy symptoms.

Based on its ability to improve blood flow and stimulate blood vessel nitric oxide levels, pycnogenol should also significantly improve I am a spammer ban me dysfunction, even to normal levels, when combined with L-arginine.

In another study, researchers observed a significant improvement in vascular insufficiency-induced leg cramps and pain. The usual dose is 50 mg to 100 mg three times a day.
