High systolic blood pressure caused over 10.8 million deaths worldwide in 2019. (The Lancet)

That’s more than any single infection, more than alcohol, even more than high cholesterol.

This one number is quietly doing more damage than almost anything else, even when you feel completely normal.

If you want one of the clearest explanations of what actually helps calm that number, especially at night, watch this short presentation here.

Here is what most people are never told.

For many adults, blood pressure struggles are not about discipline, salt shakers, or willpower.

They are about squeeze.

Your blood vessels are living tissue.

They expand and relax when things are working well.

But when certain internal signals stay high, those vessels stay tense longer than they should.

One of the strongest of those signals is called endothelin 1.

In the medical literature, it is described as a powerful vasoconstrictor involved in blood pressure elevation (American Journal of Hypertension).

In everyday words, it tells your vessels to tighten.

But there’s good news.

In a clinical study published in Phytomedicine, researchers tested a deep red tea made from hibiscus. The result?

Blood pressure dropped from 146/98 down to 129/86.
That’s a reduction of 17/12 mmHg with no prescriptions involved.

That is not a headline.
That is a published result.

And when combined with aged garlic extract, another research-backed ingredient shown to lower blood pressure in uncontrolled cases, you’ve got a natural nighttime stack that actually supports your body’s ability to relax the squeeze.

This short presentation explains:

How these ingredients are used together. Why nighttime timing matters for many people.
And how to look at your next reading without that familiar knot in your stomach.

If you have ever sat there waiting for the cuff to tighten, hoping the number would be different this time, this is worth seeing.

Read it here while it is still available.

Gosh Walton, I hope you'll try it. I know you're somewhat cynical toward natural health measures, but keep in mind such things were the go-to for countless thousands of years before the modern drug industry took it all over.

Having survived the big "C" for seven years, I would think you must be doing something right.

Much love, and wishes for a happy, healthy new year.

Hi Jimi,
2025 was complicated.
Hunger and obesity grew. Food politics got more polarized. My father passed away.
But 2025 also brought real progress.
Read the full 2025 year-in-review
The American Medical Association endorsed plant-based eating to fight cancer. California began phasing out ultra-processed foods from school meals. Texas required warning labels on 44 harmful additives.
And this community showed up: 372,000 people attended the Food Revolution Summit. If survey patterns hold, they made dietary changes that translate to saving more than 5 billion gallons of water, and to carbon emissions equivalent to removing 44,000 cars from the road.
That's you. That's us.

Common Cause of High Blood Pressure Overlooked

Doctors are regularly overlooking a common hormone-driven cause of high blood pressure, a new paper warns.

As many as 30% of high blood pressure patients seen by heart specialists and 14% of those seen in primary care have a condition called primary aldosteronism, researchers reported in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

Special: Heart Surgeon's Secret to Healthy Blood Pressure... See Here

Despite this, many are never given a blood test for the condition, in which the adrenal glands produce too much of the hormone aldosterone, researchers said.

Others are tested years after their initial diagnosis with high blood pressure. By that time, the condition has caused severe health complications, researchers added.

“People with primary aldosteronism face a higher risk of cardiovascular disease than those with primary hypertension,” said lead author Dr. Gail Adler, an endocrinologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

“With a low-cost blood test, we could identify more people who have primary aldosteronism and ensure they receive the proper treatment for the condition,” she added in a news release.

Urgent: 4 Signs Your Heart Is Quietly Failing... See Here

Aldosterone helps balance blood levels of sodium and potassium, researchers said. Levels that are too high can cause people to lose potassium while retaining more sodium, resulting in increased blood pressure.

Research has shown that people with primary aldosteronism are nearly 2.6 times more likely to have a stroke; twice as likely to have heart failure; 3.5 times more likely to develop an abnormal heart rhythm; and 77% more likely to wind up with heart disease, researchers said in background notes.

Guidelines offered in the new paper recommend that everyone diagnosed with high blood pressure have their aldosterone levels checked, and those with primary aldosteronism be given treatment specific to that condition.

Prescription drugs are available to treat primary aldosteronism, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. They include spironolactone and eplerenone, both of which lower blood pressure and boost potassium levels.

Doctors also might recommend surgery to remove one of the two adrenal glands, if only one is producing too much aldosterone, researchers said. Patients also are asked to eat a balanced low-sodium diet and try to lose weight, Johns Hopkins said.

Hi there Jimi,

Galectin-3 is emerging as a key driver of chronic inflammation, yet most people have never heard of it.

This protein creates inflammatory microenvironments that trap immune cells, disrupt circulation, promote fibrosis, and accelerate disease progression throughout the body.

Switzerland has some of the lowest blood pressure numbers in the world.

In fact, the World Health Organization ranked it #1 for the lowest hypertension in women in a recent global report.

And here’s the curveball.

They’re not living on lettuce and lemon water.

The Swiss are famous for cheese-heavy meals, with an average of over 50 pounds of cheese per person, per year.

They regularly enjoy meat-rich dishes too, including sausage platters, creamy sauces, and fondue cooked in oil.

So the obvious question is:

How can a country eating like this still have some of the healthiest blood pressure numbers on the planet?

Because it’s not just about what they eat; it’s also about what helps their blood vessels relax.

That’s where things get interesting.

And it leads straight into a powerful daily habit backed by clinical research, involving a red tea that’s been shown to drop blood pressure by up to 17/12 mmHg in human studies.

Read more on that and how it can benefit you here

Another Selenium Alternative to Brazil Nuts!

But what if someone is allergic or sensitive to Brazil nuts? What’s a good alternative?

Tell the EPA: Stop Toxic Exposure – Ban Formaldehyde

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to nearly double the amount of formaldehyde it considers safe to inhale by adopting a new exposure threshold.

That new car smell? It’s actually the off-gassing of toxins, primarily formaldehyde.

Formaldehyde isn’t just in car interiors. It’s used as a preservative and adhesive in just about every consumer product you can think of, from furniture, flooring, and carpets, to clothing, children’s toys, vaccines, cigarettes, air fresheners, cleaning supplies, hair and nail products, cosmetics, pesticides, and fertilizers.

You can also be exposed to formaldehyde from candles, gas stoves, and fireplaces, and, of course, workplaces where formaldehyde is used in manufacturing and their surrounding communities are top formaldehyde hotspots.

Formaldehyde causes more cancers than any other toxic air pollutant. It’s also implicated in allergic reactions, asthma, miscarriage, and birth defects.

Scientists have never found a safe level of exposure to formaldehyde. Now Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency wants to call dangerous levels “safe.” Trump put Nancy Beck and Lynn Dekleva of the American Chemistry Council in charge of chemical safety at the EPA. They used to lobby the EPA on behalf of formaldehyde producers like Merck. Now they make the rules.

Don’t miss your chance to weigh in: The EPA is accepting comments on a proposal to raise formaldehyde limits until February 2, 2026.

BAN TOXIC PFAS

How All Those Forever Chemicals End Up on Your Plate

Molly Glick, Nautilus:

“An international team of scientists analyzed how PFAS moved across more than 100 food webs spanning land and water. Gathering data from 64 studies, they conducted the first meta-analysis of data on PFAS accumulation across food chains around the world. The researchers hoped to clear up inconsistencies in past research, which has pointed to both minor amounts of PFAS accumulating in some food webs and massive build-up in others.

The researchers traced levels of 72 different types of PFAS, and found that increases from one rung of the food chain to the next depend on the substance. For example, F-53B, a chemical used to manufacture some machine parts, showed the highest average increase—around three-fold from prey to predator. F-53B was designed as a less toxic alternative to a substance that’s restricted or banned in many countries. But like several of these new alternatives, its concentration multiplied as it stepped up the food chain at a greater rate than the predecessor.”

Read how given what we know about PFAS toxicity from other studies, these extreme accumulation rates in top predators suggest serious health risks

Angina Pectoris: Classic Chest Pain

By Chauncey Crandall, M.D.

People who have coronary artery disease experience a type of chest pain known as angina pectoris, which is more commonly called simply “angina” or “stable angina.”

In cases of heart disease, the heart’s coronary arteries — the trio of vessels that brings blood to the heart — become narrowed due to atherosclerosis, the buildup of a fatty cholesterol substance called plaque in the vessel walls, causing blockages.

Special: Start Reversing Your Joint Pain in as Little as 5 Days

Typically, angina is described as chest pain, but it can also manifest as pressure, heaviness, tightness, indigestion, or discomfort.

People with this kind of stable angina experience chest pain that is predictable, both in onset and intensity. Stable angina can be managed with cardiac medications such as nitroglycerin, which temporarily widens coronary arteries, lowering blood pressure and relieving the need for the heart to work so hard. The vessels then relax and the pain subsides.

In most cases, people with stable angina can live for years. But if a blood clot lodges in one of the coronary arteries, the result can be a heart attack.

In addition, heart disease is progressive, meaning that new formations of plaque can occur over the top of hardened ones. If that happens, stable angina can transform into unstable angina.
