Let’s Talk About Antioxidants

Our best strategy against prostate cancer is our vigilance, coupled with medical expertise, smart behavioral change, and precision supplementation. Our Roadmap involves detoxifying, reducing inflammation, strengthening our immune system, boosting our antioxidant levels, and encouraging anti-tumor activity.

Today, let’s turn our attention to antioxidants.

What are antioxidants and why do they matter?

Antioxidants combat free radicals, so let’s start with an explanation of free radicals.

Our cells have parts called atoms that like to be paired with two electrons. If a cell loses an electron, it becomes unstable and attempts to steal an electron from other healthy cells. Or failing that, to donate the remaining electron to a healthy cell that already has its normal pair. This unpaired or single-electron cell is called a free radical.

The presence of some free radicals is natural, but many others are due to exposure to external factors such as radiation. In modern life, we are constantly exposed to radiation; from microwaves to mobile phones to WiFi networks to air travel…there is no place to hide.

An abundance of free radicals in our body causes damage on a cellular level as they roam our body seeking to grab or donate electrons, thereby damaging cells, proteins, and DNA. This destructive process is called oxidative stress.

As the name suggests, antioxidants combat oxidative stress. Antioxidants are nutrients in the form of vitamins, minerals, or plant chemicals that neutralize free radicals. In doing so, the antioxidants sacrifice themselves, which is why we need to constantly replenish our antioxidant levels to combat the ongoing oxidative stress process.

Why are prostate cancer patients particularly vulnerable?

On a cellular level, free radicals damage our DNA, which in turn creates aberrant cells. Aberrant cell growth is a term that prostate cancer patients are unfortunately all too familiar with.

Scientific research has implicated free radicals and oxidative stress in both prostate cancer initiation and promotion. It is even possible that radiation therapy may encourage tumor formation to its by-product over-production of free radicals.

Knowing this, let's now discuss what you can start doing to boost your antioxidant levels thereby your body’s ability to combat this destructive, oxidative stress.

What can I do to boost my ability to combat oxidative stress?

As always, make smart choices. For example, here are 6 things you can start doing right now:

  • Don’t smoke. Beyond the obvious reasons, smoking produces numerous types of free radicals, which lead to aberrant cell growth and contribute to heart disease and cancer.

  • Stop eating crap. Processed foods frequently contain sugar, simple carbs, trans-fats, and additives that you would never choose to eat on their own. Processed foods which have been shown to promote free radical production.

  • Start eating smartly. Fresh, organic foods that are thoughtfully prepared. Lean protein, vegetables, and fruit (in particular berries) are the foundation to a healthy, antioxidant level boosting diet. And spice it up a bit: garlic, onions, rosemary, and turmeric all have powerful antioxidant properties.

  • Think before you drink. Do your best to avoid drinking anything that includes sugar. Green tea contains plenty of polyphenol antioxidants, including a catechin called EGCG. And enjoy a nice glass of red wine on occasion since it contains resveratrol, another powerful antioxidant.

  • Get moving. It is not just dogs and children that need exercise: the benefits to cancer patients from exercise are well known. That said, while moderate exercise will boost our levels of antioxidant values, overly intense exercise can have the opposite effect.

  • Avoid multivitamins containing iron. Although iron is a necessary mineral, its over consumption has been shown to promote free radical production.

What supplements will further boost my antioxidant levels?

All of our nutraceuticals are formulated to boost your levels of antioxidants, so this is one of the many benefits you will be gaining:

All great choices, and all backed by scientific research. Do not hesitate to contact Dr. Geo for specific recommendations.

What’s my takeaway here?

Let’s discourage any and all aberrant cell growth in our body because doing so will improve our health and our ability to combat disease. We can boost our antioxidant levels by making the smart dietary and lifestyle choices described above, and by adding one or more supplements. As always, it comes down to making smart choices and to committing yourself to doing what is necessary. You can do this! Let us know how we can help.

As always, thank you for choosing XY Wellness.

All the Best,

Hi there

There are plenty of powerful herbs that help detoxify your system and support your liver and kidneys in clearing out waste.

A lot of them might already be growing right outside your door or in your backyard. Here are 8 detoxifying herbs that can help eliminate toxic buildup and purify your blood:

>> 8 Herbs That Detox Your Body Naturally

P.S. A practicing physician just developed what he calls his "Herb-zempic" strategy...

After seeing the alarming side effects GLP-1 drugs were causing in his patients.

Stomach paralysis…

Pancreas complications…

And severe muscle wasting. (It turns out 30-40% of the weight people lose on synthetic GLP-1s is lean muscle, not fat)

The worst part is, many of these problems persist even after you stop taking the drugs.

That's when Dr. Rick Cohen started wondering:

"Are there plants that can support the body's natural GLP-1 production?"

After digging through 12,810 studies, he identified 3 herbs that help manage the glucose spikes responsible for cravings, weight gain, and erratic blood sugar...

Without the scary side effects.

>>> Discover the 3 herbs behind Dr. Cohen's "Herb-zempic" strategy here.
Wishing you good health,

There’s a moment in the cancer journey nobody really talks about but only someone who’s had cancer understands…

After treatment ends.

Your family celebrates.
Your friends say, “You’re fine now.”
Life is supposed to go back to normal.

But inside… something else can happen.

A thought that quietly creeps in:

What if it comes back?

For many survivors, this is actually when the fear ramps up the most.

The scans.
The waiting.
The little symptoms that suddenly mean something.

And then comes the overwhelm…

Too many decisions.
Too much information.
Too many “what ifs.”

Cancer survivor and coach Melissa Merchant recorded one of the most honest conversations we’ve shared yet about this stage of the journey.

Not about dwelling on fear…

But about what to actually do when fear shows up.
She shares:

✔ Why fear of recurrence is incredibly common
✔ The two surprising ways people respond to it
✔ Simple ways to interrupt the spiral when anxiety starts
✔ And the mindset shift that changed everything for her

There’s one question she asks herself whenever the thought appears:

“What if my cancer comes back?”

Her response?

“What if it doesn’t?”

That one question can change everything.

6 tiny kitchen habits that double the nutrition in foods you already buy
If you've ever been in a kitchen with me, you know I can't keep my mouth shut.

"Don't cook that yet!"

"Did you crush that garlic?"

"Where's the black pepper? You can't add turmeric without black pepper."

Because one of the biggest nutrition mistakes I see has nothing to do with what people are eating. It's how they're preparing it.

The right food, prepared the wrong way, can lose the very compounds that make it worth eating in the first place.

Here are six simple fixes that change everything.

1. BROCCOLI: Chop it. Then walk away.

When you cut broccoli, it triggers the formation of sulforaphane, one of the most studied anti-inflammatory compounds in food science.

Research shows it can block cancer cell growth, reduce oxidative stress, and even cross the blood-brain barrier to protect your brain.

But sulforaphane needs about 40 minutes to fully form after the cell walls are broken.

Chop your broccoli and throw it straight into the pan? The heat destroys the enzyme before the sulforaphane ever activates.

The fix? Chop first. Prep everything else. Cook it last.

2. GARLIC: Crush it. Wait 10 minutes.

Garlic's most potent compound, allicin, only forms when the cell walls are crushed and the enzyme alliinase is exposed to air.

Cook it immediately and the heat destroys the enzyme before allicin can form.

But crush or chop it and wait just 10 minutes? Those 10 minutes are the difference between flavouring and genuine medicine.

Allicin is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial that fights harmful bacteria, supports liver detox, and reduces key inflammatory markers.

3. TOMATOES: Cook them. Add fat.

Unlike most vegetables, tomatoes become more nutritious when cooked.

Heat breaks down the cell walls and significantly increases the bioavailability of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant linked to heart and brain health.

But lycopene is fat-soluble. Without a drizzle of olive oil or a few slices of avocado, your body can barely absorb it.

4. TURMERIC: Always add black pepper.

Your body absorbs almost none of the curcumin in turmeric on its own.

But adding black pepper increases absorption by up to 2,000%.

The piperine in black pepper blocks your liver from breaking curcumin down too quickly. A generous pinch is all it takes. Adding a healthy fat like coconut milk or olive oil boosts it even further.

This is why traditional golden milk recipes have always included pepper and fat. They figured it out long before the clinical trials caught up.

5. MUSHROOMS: Put them in the sun.

Mushrooms are the only non-animal food that can produce vitamin D.

Place them gill-side up in direct sunlight for 15 to 30 minutes before cooking and they convert ergosterol into vitamin D2, just like your skin does.

Any variety works. Even store-bought white buttons.

6. RICE, PASTA, POTATOES & OATS: Cook them and then cool them.

When starchy foods cool down after cooking, some of the digestible starch converts into resistant starch, a prebiotic fiber that your gut bacteria ferment into butyrate and other short-chain fatty acids.

The best part? Resistant starch largely survives gentle reheating.

So cooking a batch of rice or potatoes, refrigerating them, and reheating the next day gives you the same meal with bonus prebiotic benefits.

Your gut bacteria get fed without you changing a single ingredient.

For oats specifically, soaking them overnight also allows the beta-glucan fiber to fully hydrate, maximising its cholesterol-lowering and prebiotic effects.

None of these take more than a minute of extra effort. Most take zero.

They're just tiny shifts in timing and preparation that unlock compounds your body and your gut bacteria are designed to use.

Your food is already powerful. It just needs you to prepare it in a way that lets it do its job.

Yours for better health, naturally

TAKE ACTION

Ban the Pesticides Behind America’s Rural Cancer Crisis

There’s a strong correlation between pesticide use and cancer risk, especially in the Midwestern United States where farming is the main source of exposure to carcinogens. Counties with the highest pesticide use tend to have above-average cancer rates.

The link is even more clear when specific pesticides are matched with the cancers they’re known to cause. Take glyphosate and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In Iowa, 95 percent of the counties with the most glyphosate use have more than their fair share of late-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnoses and 61 percent are non-Hodgkin lymphoma hotspots.

GLYPHOSATE

Agricultural Soils Exposed to Glyphosate May Be Unexpected Breeding Ground for Hospital ‘Superbugs’

Edited by Sadie Harley, reviewed by Robert Egan, Frontiers, Phys.org:

“Each year, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is responsible for an estimated 1.1 to 1.4 million deaths worldwide. Now, scientists have found evidence that the spread of AMR isn’t always driven by bacteria evolving to resist the antibiotics themselves: rather, certain weedkillers can have the same effect.

‘Here we show that the most common species of multidrug-resistant bacteria from hospitals are not only resistant to multiple antibiotic classes, but also to high concentrations of the weedkiller glyphosate,’ said Dr. Daniela Centrón, a researcher at the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology in Buenos Aires and the senior author of the study in Frontiers in Microbiology.

‘These results suggest that weedkillers—which, unlike antibiotics, are widely applied in agricultural environments—may have the unintended side effect of selecting for AMR among bacterial communities within the soil.’”

Pesticide labels should warn that antibiotic resistant bacteria can spread from glyphosate-sprayed soils to hospitals through contaminated water

SUPPORT OCA & RI

Farm Country Is Facing a Cancer Crisis. Help Us Fight Back.

In Iowa alone, 95 percent of the counties with the highest glyphosate use have above-average rates of late-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnoses. This isn’t a coincidence — it’s a pattern playing out across the Midwest, where the pesticides sprayed on our food are leaving cancer hotspots in their wake.
But pesticides are just one front in a much bigger fight. The Organic Consumers Association has spent decades campaigning for pesticide bans, food safety reforms, and regenerative organic agriculture — pushing back against the corporate agribusiness interests that put profit before people and the planet.
We’re fighting to stop the spread of genetically modified microorganisms into our soil, campaigning to end avocado-driven deforestation in Mexico, and demanding that companies like Driscoll’s stop using toxic pesticides near the communities where families live and work.
The chemical industry has deep pockets and powerful lobbyists. We have you.
Your donation funds the research, organizing and advocacy it takes to push back — and to push for the bans and reforms that farmers, families, and communities desperately need.
The people growing our food shouldn’t be paying for it with their lives.

Hi there Jimi,

Breathing is the most fundamental thing we do, yet dysfunctional patterns like mouth breathing, shallow chest breathing, and breath holding can drive dysautonomia, POTS, and impaired tissue oxygenation in chronically ill patients.

In the latest episode of Gordon Medical Forum podcast, Dr. Eric Gordon sits down with Michael Roesslein to discuss how the way we breathe constantly signals either safety or danger to the nervous system, why low CO2 tolerance keeps oxygen locked in the blood rather than delivered to tissues, and how chronic diaphragm constriction from held emotions blocks lymphatic drainage and organ function.
Episode Highlights:
  • Mouth breathing and shallow chest breathing activate sympathetic overdrive, signaling danger
  • Higher CO2 tolerance pushes oxygen from the blood into tissues for delivery
  • Diaphragm constriction from held emotions blocks lymphatic drainage and organ function
  • Nasal belly breathing for 3-5 breaths retrains the nervous system toward safety

New Cholesterol Guidelines

By Tricia Cooney Bresnahan

New cholesterol guidelines are encouraging doctors to rethink when patients should be screened and treated for heart disease risk — shifting the focus to earlier prevention.

Experts say conditions such as high cholesterol and diabetes can have far-reaching effects beyond heart health, including an increased risk of dementia.

Editor’s Note: The Patriot's Guide to Staying Healthy in Uncertain Times

Cardiologist Dr. Chauncey Crandall, director of preventive medicine at the Palm Beach Cardiovascular Clinic in Florida and author of "The Simple Heart Cure," says the updated recommendations emphasize lowering cholesterol earlier in life — and keeping it low over time.

"You know, the bottom line is they came out with some new regulations in March, the American College of Cardiology and other organizations," Crandall told Newsmax's "Bianca Across the Nation." "And what they're saying is that we need to get the cholesterol lower for a longer period of time."

Special: 76% of the World Is Low on Omega-3s — Are You One of Them?

That means screening should begin sooner than many people expect.

Under the new guidelines, children ages 9 to 11 should be given a blood test to determine if they have genetically driven high cholesterol, a condition called familial hypercholesterolemia, which requires lifetime treatment to prevent heart disease.

Editor’s Note: Discover Your Risk for Heart Disease in Minutes With This Simple Test – Click Here

After that, cholesterol testing should begin at age 19, with repeat tests at least every five years.

In addition, the age for managing high cholesterol with statin drugs or other measures is now recommended to begin as young as age 30, down from 40.

Special: Struggling With Fatigue? This Could Be the Reason

"What we are looking for is that we want to lower cholesterol to prevent heart disease."

Traditionally, many patients are not diagnosed with high cholesterol until later in life — often during routine physicals in their 40s, 50s, or beyond, said Crandall.

"And Bianca, that's really too late. We want to get the cholesterol lower for longer. It needs to be started at an earlier time in someone's life," explained Crandall, editor of the popular newsletter Dr. Crandall's Heart Health Report.

At the same time, research continues to highlight the broader impact of chronic conditions like diabetes.

A new study, published in the journal Neurology, found that people with Type 1 diabetes are nearly three times likelier to develop dementia, while those with Type 2 diabetes face about double the risk compared with people without diabetes.

Crandall says lifestyle changes remain critical for reducing those risks.

"Well, I'm telling my patients that they need to really do everything they can to stay in good health," he said. "Diabetes is a big risk factor for heart disease, dementia, stroke."

Even for people already diagnosed with diabetes, he says there are steps that can improve long-term outcomes.

"What I tell my patients is we can still achieve victory," Crandall said. "But keep your weight down, keep your cholesterol down, exercise, and stay active."

He also emphasizes avoiding habits that can worsen health over time, including smoking.

"We're entitled to live a long life, but we need to work hard at it. We can't abuse our bodies," said Crandall.

After that, cholesterol testing should begin at age 19, with repeat tests at least every five years.

In addition, the age for managing high cholesterol with statin drugs or other measures is now recommended to begin as young as age 30, down from 40.

He advises patients — especially those with diabetes — to focus on improving all aspects of their health.

"If you're a diabetic, improve everything that you possibly can," he said. "Lower weight, better diet, no smoking, less alcohol. You'll live a long life."

Experts say the shift toward earlier screening may empower more people to take control of their health before serious problems develop — making prevention a key part of long-term heart and brain health.

This stabilizes the allicin, which promotes a healthier gut environment and helps keep harmful microbes in check.

Yes, it's an easy change…

But it dramatically increases the benefits you get from the same food!

And here's another...

🍚 Little-Known Trick #2: Cool Your Carbs

As we become herbalists, our senses naturally expand. This expansiveness improves our ability to identify plants and determine the freshness of ingredients and herbal preparations.
Honing our sensory awareness can also help us assess the energetics of a person or condition, and intuitively choose the herb that will best address the situation.
In this month's episode of HerbMentor Radio, Mimi and I talk with Kat Maier, author of Energetic Herbalism. Kat shares her passion for the sensorial nature of herbalism, as well as tips and tricks for expanding your sensory awareness.
Kat is a clinical herbalist with over 30 years of experience. Passionate about stewarding healing plants, she previously served as president of United Plant Savers. She now stewards Sacred Plant Traditions, her own botanical sanctuary and center for herbal studies, located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
In this episode, Mimi Prunella and I dive into a conversation with Kat about:
  • Energetic herbalism and how it can be a cornerstone of our herbal practice.
  • How elemental qualities like warmth, moisture, tone, and movement can help us deepen our understanding of plants and their actions.
  • How walking in nature with a "soft gaze" can lead to surprising discoveries.
  • Marshmallow's healing properties and how this plant can be a sensory teacher.
Kat brings so much knowledge and passion to this discussion. It was a true pleasure to speak with her on the podcast.
I know you're going to love this episode!

How oncologists actually view “successful treatment”
In the world of conventional oncology, "success" is often measured by a very specific metric: How long a patient can live with cancer.

Notice I didn't say "how a patient recovers."

That’s because the system isn’t designed for total recovery... It’s designed for management.

This distinction might seem like a small detail, but it changes everything.

It dictates every pill, every round of radiation, and every surgery your doctor recommends.

The real question we should be asking is: Why is the system ignoring the root cause?

The truth is, conventional treatments focus almost entirely on the symptoms.

They rarely, if ever, look at the underlying drivers that allowed the cancer to thrive in the first place... things like:

  • Environmental toxins hiding in our homes.

  • Chronic, physiological stress that shuts down the immune system.

  • Hidden parasitic infections that go completely undetected by standard tests.

It’s not that your oncologist is a bad person or "out to get you."

Not at all.

It’s simply that the system they were trained in wasn't built to look for these answers.

That’s why I’m so grateful for the work my good friend and award-winning researcher, Nathan Crane, is doing.

He just released a brand-new guide called: "Do Oncologists Help or Hurt Your Recovery?"
mail
Inside, you’ll discover the "blind spots" in conventional cancer care...

And, more importantly, how to bridge the gap between standard treatment and true healing.

When you download your complimentary copy, you’ll learn:

  • Why a "successful" clinical outcome doesn't always mean the cancer is gone for good.

  • How certain standard treatments can actually weaken the very immune system you need to recover.

  • The environmental and biological factors that most oncologists are never trained to test for.

  • How to combine the best of modern science with powerful, natural protocols for a more holistic support.

If you or someone you love is navigating a diagnosis, this is one of the most important things you could read right now.

It covers the most crucial topics of cancer recovery that you need to know...

So you can understand them better and learn how to advocate for yourself and navigate your cancer journey with confidence.

You can download your complimentary guide here and decide for yourself what the best path forward is for your cancer journey

To your health,
