She also flags that a generic version of one of these drugs is available on Amazon without a prescription — a situation she believes is already creating risks in high school settings. The conversation closes with practical, specific guidance for families on food, home cooking, movement, and building the microbiome as the foundation of lasting change.​

Warmer weather means more opportunities to cook outside and grilling is one of the easiest ways to make a beautiful meal while enjoying the fresh air.

This is one of those recipes I keep coming back to. Grilled veggies with a fresh basil vinaigrette and yellow squash is the star.

Here's why yellow squash deserves a spot on your plate this season:

It's rich in vitamin B6 — a key nutrient your body needs to make progesterone, the calming hormone that supports steady moods and restful sleep.

Serves 4


For the vegetables:

  • 1 medium zucchini, sliced into ½-inch rounds
  • 1 medium yellow squash, sliced into ½-inch rounds
  • ½ large red bell pepper, seeded and sliced into strips (optional — omit if you don't tolerate nightshades)

  • 6 baby portobello mushrooms, stems removed
  • 2 cups cauliflower florets (or broccoli)
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For the basil vinaigrette:

  • 2 cups fresh basil leaves, loosely packed
  • ⅓ cup olive oil
  • ½ large shallot
  • 2 Tbsp rice wine vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 Tbsp honey or agave, to taste
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • Splash of water, if needed

Directions:

  1. Heat a gas grill or grill pan to medium-high.
  2. Toss the vegetables in a large bowl with olive oil, sea salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Arrange the vegetables on the grill in a single layer. Cook about 5 minutes per side, until tender and beautifully charred to your liking.
  4. While the veggies grill, add all the vinaigrette ingredients to a high-speed blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Add a splash of water if needed to help the blades catch.
  5. Taste and adjust the salt, pepper, or honey.
  6. Arrange the grilled veggies on a platter. Drizzle the vinaigrette over the top, or serve on the side. Leftovers keep in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Make this a complete hormone-balancing meal by pairing it with your favorite protein, grilled chicken, grass-fed steak or wild-caught salmon are all beautiful with this one.
